We are entitled to a voucher for future use (within 12 months) with them. In some respects it would be better for us if they cancel flights so we could get a refund.

Nothing is going to get better until there is a vaccine so middle of 2021 is my optimistic guess! I am a pessimist however and think mass tourism is over and I will never see GC again.

Some of the comments on here is unreal.

If you have something booked for April, that don’t look likely at all. Something booked for may there is a chance. The BS about next year and mass Tourism is over, that’s not even stupid that’s just plain thick

We are guaging things along the lines that the peak is expected, in the UK, around the end of May, into June. Based on that, it's unlikely anything other than essential flights will be departing UK until well after then. Ryanair and other carriers have publicly said fleets are likely to be grounded for 'at least' 2 months and at best they will operate a very limited number of flights/destinations.

The problem we face with rebooking, is that no one knows what happens when any country comes out from lockdown? Depending on the level of infection and numbers with subsequent immunity(and that's not 100% certain), it could all spiral again, in a similar manner..... back to square one. A vaccine is indisputably a long way away, so it really is uncertain times. My thinking, like everyone's, is opinion, no one knows better than anyone else...anyone that says they do, please tell us the winning numbers for tomorrow night's lottery!

We really feel for people who have lost holidays(we lost our honeymoon), lost jobs, have businesses in the hospitality sector and those that depend on tourism BUT we feel more for people that have and will lose loved ones. There will be no such thing as 'normal life' for a very long time and unfortunately, the people that ignore the Stay Home, Save Lives advice, will only perpetuate everyone's suffering.

There endeth Sunday's sermon. PEACE

Definitely feeling your pain, and I’m sure many will concur. I touched base with our hotel who have kindly offered a refund or rebook any time at the same price, which is fantastic and ideally what I’d like to do to reciprocate the loyalty and contribute to their forecast, but as you said how do we put a date on it?

About three weeks or so ago, I said to my partner we’ll review the flight situation at the end of March, beginning of April, as I anticipated an escalation. Though to this level wasn’t expected and it’s a shame that a lot of people haven’t fully understood the transition phase, though I expect they will over the coming days when the lockdown happens most likely later today or tomorrow.

It’ll level off, but there’ll probably be another spike & it’s this that’s going to make it all the harder to predict.

I was thinking of rebooking for October/November, but even now I’m not so sure.

What’s everyone else doing? Rebooking for later in the year, next year or simply and sensibly holding fire until we can see the woods from the trees?

As for lottery numbers, I can’t predict those but I wouldn’t be surprised if 19 pops up due to the law of coincidences and irony.

Stay safe everyone x

"Hotels have been saying they are opening from May. "

I think that's wishful thinking? Until the mass of people have immunity, be it from infection/recovery(if proven), or a vaccine(long way off), it would be folly to start letting people return, as the whole infection cycle would start again. As the UK isn't set to peak until May and other countries are similar, even if hotels do open, no one will be flying to GC?

This is not going to end as quickly as some people are hoping for, sorry but that's the truth

"Vaccine is not that far away in my view.. there is a reason way the US want to buy to buy CureVac "

That has been denied by both parties and even if a vaccine has been discovered, it cannot be fast tracked and must go through clinical trials and testing. Best guess is early next year and that's considered optimistic by experts.

Best estimates from the scientific world is it’s at least a year away. Good article in the New Scientists this week.

Hopefully a bit pessimistic. China may have peaked after 3 months so hopefully the knowledge gained can help us contain it quicker?

"Hopefully a bit pessimistic. China may have peaked after 3 months so hopefully the knowledge gained can help us contain it quicker?"

China was effectively under martial law for 2 months, forcibly lifting people from the streets/houses. Most people are sceptical of figures re infection/death rates coming from China AND given the incubation period, it's too early to tell if infection will spread again, now restrictions have been relaxed. It's not over yet and the game changer will be a vaccine and that's not happening soon.

This is a massive test of the disaffected youth/social activists, to see if they will comply and help save lives. If not, I'd suggest it's the time to stop being so PC and deal with them effectively, or 'put manners in them' as my father would say. Their selfishness could cost lives and I fear they will indeed challenge authorities JUST to prove they can and to claim their human rights are being breached......but isn't the ultimate human right, the right to life, which any reckless behaviour could take away from the more vulnerable in our society??

Please, please, prove me wrong and behave responsibly

PDI Gran Canaria - Birmingham

So we’ve cancelled our Ryanair flights for a full refund. What was going for about £200 for a return flight for two in October/November is now over £500.

With this in mind, we’re definitely requesting the refund as opposed to rescheduling and will wait until there’s a clear understanding and direction for the future.

The hotel we are staying at have said we can have a full refund, or can rebook in the future and they will keep the price.

So we’re not going to take the refund and at least give the hotel some assurance that we will invest in them.

It feels very weird sorting this out, which essentially is a luxury (though earned and deserved) when so much more important shit is going on.

That said, we recognise we have to do this and will certainly be doing our bit to support our local region, the country, Spain and Gran Canaria and the world.

Stay safe everyone

Going with the Italy and Spain peak points the uk is on schedule to peak in less than 14 days. It’s all down to how we manage the infected and how good our health service is.

14% of COVID 19 infected are Spanish health workers. I would be shocked if we had such a high figure of NHS infected in the UK. We have one if the best heath care infrastructures in the word. Going with population and health care standards I would be surprised if we get figures anywhere near Italy or Spain
