So I took her to the river thinking she was a virgin but she had a husband

It was on St James's night and almost in duty bound they switched off the lanterns and the fireflies lit up.

At the last street corner I touched her sleeping breasts and, suddenly they opened like a hyacinth's petals.

The starch of her summer dress rustled in my ears like a fragment of silk ripped by a baker's knife

Away from the silver the trees had grown larger and very far from the river dogs barked over the horizon
