Blackheath

Her name was called, it was her turn, she hesitated before walking down the corridor to her appointment, her breath catching, feeling embarrassed knowing she was seeing the doctor a friend of her parents.

She smoothed the hem of her silk slip dress, wishing she worn something less revealing. Over it she wore a wore a laced jacket, unbuttoned, teasing what lay beneath.

She stepped to the door and knocked. A voice calling her in.

That’s when she saw him.

He stood at the far end of the room, tall, lean, and dressed in an old-fashioned three-piece suit with a stethoscope slung around his neck.

A doctor, his head smooth but it was something in his eyes that left her feeling as if he could see straight through and what lay beneath.

His gaze found her almost instantly, sliding over the hem of her coat, lingering on the curve of silk just visible beneath.

He tilted his head slightly, as if issuing a challenge.

Sit down he sternly requested.

She crossed the room slowly, every step deliberate, heels clicking like punctuation. When she was close enough to feel the warmth of his breath, she whispered,

“Doctor, I have chest pain”

and let the word curl on her tongue like something wicked.

His smile was slow, predatory in the most delicious way.

“Chest pains?” he murmured, dipping his head closer, his breath ghosting against the shell of her ear as he stood behind her.

She laughed softly, letting her hand brush his lapel.

“Something like that.”

His fingers, warm and steady, found the edge of her coat. He didn’t pull, just held the fabric between thumb and forefinger, a silent question. She answered with a slight nod. The coat slipped from her shoulders like a whisper, pooling at her feet.

Underneath, silk clung to her skin, the neckline scandalously low. His gaze roamed, slow, unhurried like a touch without touching.

He stepped forward, closing the small distance. She could feel the heat of him even before his hand grazed the inside of her wrist, light, teasing, deliberate.

“Then,” he said softly, voice a low growl,

“I’d better examine you.”

The words made her tremble, her pulse jumped.

She arched her neck slightly, baring the line of her throat, letting the silk strap slide lower. His thumb traced the faint thrum of her pulse, a lazy, claiming motion. She leaned into his touch, inhaling his warm scent.

His other hand rose, not to undress her but to cup the side of her jaw, tilting her face up to meet his.

“Breathe in,” he whispered.

She did. Slow. Deep. Her chest rose, her skin prickling under the heat of his gaze.

“And out.”

Blackheath

His hand remained at her jaw, steady and warm, while his thumb swept idly along her pulse point.

Her own hands, unsure at first, found their way to the lapels of his suit jacket, fingers curling lightly into the fabric. It was thick wool, smooth under her touch, a contrast to the silk clinging to her.

The stethoscope around his neck swung lightly as he leaned closer, the cool metal brushing against the bare skin of her collarbone. She shivered, the cold spark setting her nerves alight. He caught the movement, she saw it in the faint curve at the corner of his mouth as he drew back just enough to look at her.

“Sensitive,” he murmured, voice rough velvet.

She didn’t answer. Instead, she tilted her chin up, an unspoken yes.

His hand slid from her jaw to her shoulder, fingers grazing the strap of her dress. He didn’t pull it down, not yet, only traced it from shoulder to the dip where silk met skin, like he was learning her by touch alone.

He dipped his head again, this time letting his lips hover just above the line of her throat. Not touching. Just breathing her in. She closed her eyes. Her hands moved higher now, sliding up his chest, feeling the solid warmth beneath the fabric. One hand steadied her waist, fingers pressing lightly into silk.

Still, he didn’t hurry. He traced her like a map, as if the pleasure was in discovering, not taking.

“Tell me,” he whispered against her skin, the words a brush of heat,

“where it hurts.”

Her breath caught, a soft, involuntary sound, and for a moment she forgot how to speak.
