Long story short but after we went bankrupt we were financially in a difficult situation.
Now living in a small flat on an ex council estate I think its fair to say we both felt thoroughly dejected.
From our previous life style though not millionaires we certainly enjoyed a high level of income. Now we are both at the mercy of the DWP living off benefits.
At 62 and me at 64 no one seems to want to employ us.
This has hit my Jan particularly hard of course. Gone are our friends I think they are embarrassed by our situation and gone for Jan the lunches out nice clothes etc.
I guess the final insult is both Jan and I are actually on our knees to Pete who is our landlord.
We had asked for a meeting with him to discuss how we intend to catch up on our late payment for rent.
Well humiliating as this was for us both little did I know just how low and far Pete was going to take us... |

Well it was obvious that Pete was enjoying our situation and I guess we as a couple had already crossed over to our situation by doing what Pete had asked.
When he arrived we naturally wanted him to feel welcome. He was offered tea and we both felt that he was going to be helpful and understanding about our financial situation.
So yes quite a shock when we asked for Pete to be understanding he actually just said directly to us that we were begging for more time from him but he couldn't actually see us begging.
He pointed out that people who beg favours usually get on thier knees and then ask.
Well it was my wife Jan who went first she got on her knees to this young man and looking up at him asked for his help.
With out thinking I to got on my knees next to my wife. It's strange because I think we both felt a feeling of excitement at our situation.
" lick my boots" said Pete. Peterborough had on the classic red DM boots i know it sounds mad but we both flicked our tounges over the top of his boots.
" that's better" said Pete.
