Afterwards, everything softened.
I reached past her and turned the shower on, letting the water warm before stepping back slightly, giving her space.
She stood beneath it, letting the water run over her, rinsing everything away. For a moment she just stayed there, breathing, settling back into herself.
Then she reached for the shampoo.
I watched as she worked it through her hair, fingers moving slowly, eyes closing for a second as she tilted her head back into the water. There was something calm about her now - no tension, no hesitation.
Just ease.
When she finished, I stepped in closer again, reaching for the body wash.
“Let me,” I said quietly.
She didn’t argue.
She just turned slightly, giving herself over to my hands again.
I worked the lather gently across her shoulders, down her arms, across her back - slow, unhurried, deliberate. Not just cleaning her, but taking care of her.
She leaned into it slightly, relaxed, trusting.
My hands moved over her with quiet attention, making sure nothing was rushed, nothing overlooked. The moment had shifted completely now - from intensity into something softer, something grounding.
When the water rinsed everything clean, she turned toward me again - calmer, softer, but still close.
I reached for the towel.
I wrapped it around her shoulders, drawing her in slightly before patting her dry - her arms, her back, her hair - each touch careful, deliberate.
She didn’t say anything.
She didn’t need to.
She just stayed close, letting me take care of her.
And what lingered between us wasn’t the act itself…
…It was the trust it took to share it.
…And the quiet way we held each other in it afterwards.
