Hi..just after some advice.
I'm very comfortable being naked around other people whether they are clothed or naked and I'd love to get into life modelling.
Are there any art, drawing, painting or camera clubs in the Lancashire/North West area that are open for new models to attend?
Look forward to hearing about any info/advice you may have.
Many thanks. |

I regularly life model for a few art groups. I know it sounds elementary but being able to keep a pose is key. It is also very difficult unless you do it regularly.
Poses tend to start with a few short ones - couple of minutes or so and then the usually increase to 10,15 mins and then a final pose of around 45 mins.
You will see many art groups on Instagram - look there and reach out. |

Whether you’re comfortable being naked around clothed people is mostly irrelevant.
A good model has to be able to relax into the pose and stay still for 20 - 30 minutes.
I’ve taught life drawing for many years at FE, Uni and adult level in the Uk and only a few models can do this.
In France where I now live the standard of models is very good with many being able to hold complex and demanding poses.
As a footnote, in 40 years teaching and drawing I’ve never seen a male model with a hard-on. |

I’ve never been a model although I’d be keen. But have attended life drawing classes on and off for a number of years. First, in sixth form art, thrn at uni and the odd class action over the years when have time.
When are was younger the models used to be of the more mature age range, pensionable age and very comfortable in themselves. The teachers woukd say that the older models are best as it helps you to understand the body, foreshortening, etc… but in many ways we re all young red blooded students who craved sex, so having any nearer our own age woukd have been distracting.
More recently the classes I’ve been to have had a huge range, there was an extremely athletic black lady, amazing physique, as I’d sculpted from marble. Then there was a guy, very fit but he kept trying these difficult poses he couldn’t hold. Which is annoying as if you have a long time to draw you don’t want the model moving as it changes the dynamic. Sketching movement can be fun, a good test, but most if the time you just want a model to stay still.
Sorry, rambled on a bit. |
