Want to get back out there, have fun, experiment, try new things... Is there anything I should know before-hand? Any tips? First time so I am not sure what to expect but I am excited by the idea...

Anything I should avoid or not try/do?

Also, I'm going to Gran Canaria in July and there is a swingers club there.. How does that work or should I avoid

Expect and offer a social meeting 1st. Consider a video or voice call first, to help validate who they are. Also, agreed interests and boundaries are helpful
