Hello there.

I've moved to london in 2024, i've grow up not speaking english much.

But i've tried hard and learned how to speak the language.

I have a bit of accent to my toung so i cant speak fluently english like the most of you.

I've met few people form fab, but i feel like the speaking thing keeps holding me back.

Do you guys think it would be deal breaker to meet someone who cant speak english fluently?

I'm not a native English speaker, it hasn't stopped me. As long as the person understands the boundaries and is able to give informed consent, I see no issue. It's when the poor English becomes the excuse of breaking the boundaries when the problems start.

Your written English is excellent but if you're anything like most of us you find it easier to write and understand English than speaking it. We know a lot of people for who English is their second language including one of our fathers and several close relatives. For us it makes life more interesting

OP, you seem to have a good level of English as your post is clear and informative. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

We've made some fun connections with non native English speakers. We all listen to each other with more care, and consider our responses more. Both of which are massive positives. It also makes for interesting conversation learning about one another.

Definitely shouldn't hold you back from connecting with people. x Lo x

Absolutely not, if anything I find a slight accent more interesting. And let's face it quite a lot of English people don't speak fluent English.

A foreign accent (or foreign appearance) probably makes it less likely that a racist person would want to meet you.

Given that racist people are, by definition, incredibly unpleasant, I would see this as a positive thing

It's not a problem for most. Unfortunately it is a problem for some.

No, it shouldn't make any difference.

wherever I am. ;)

I love different accents, and after reading what you've written so clearly and thoughtfully, I honestly think the only people you'd lose are the ones you're probably better off avoiding anyway.
