Hi all fems out there , i was wondering if the Mirena Coil was any good as i had to come off the Pill due to high blood pressure , my concern as a swinger would be , as i love very hard deep penetration sex , would the coil move or come out due to deep sex or am i better to go with something else , this is a question i couldnt ask my gp

You should ask a specialist doctor (gynaecologist). They are more likely to have a good idea of the likelyhood of complications with such a coil as they are the ones who treat said complications.

I've not had any problems and I've had some large (10 inches plus) cocks. It's still there and no-one has complained they have felt it.

Had it taken out in the end cos it made my migraines worse

I would say try it. It's not right for everyone, and yes sometimes the strings can be felt to start with but you can go back to your GP and have them cut if that is the case. If you don't get on with it you can always try something else.

On my third coil and apart from some men commenting they could feel the strings, I haven't had any complaints. The coil itself is tiny, about an inch and a half long and very thin, and its quite far up in the womb so, unless something is wrong, it doesn't stick out.

merina coil is a godsend for me , I am on my seccond one and they have a lifespan of 5 yrs , on the plus side they alleviate heavy menstural periods and that is the reason I had one fitted , I had the gyneacologist cut the threads as short as possibe as I didnt want to be able to feel them , merina coil is reccomended only for women who have given birth naturally as its very difficult to insert into the womb of a lady who has never had a normal vaginal delivery . The merina is not reccomended for women who have more than one regular sexual partner as infection is common but that risk is generally negated by the use of condoms .I have never personally had my coil move or come out but it does happen , and a few ladies i know have commented their partner can feel it whilst having intercourse .Hope this information helps you decide .

I have been looking into getting coil fitted as I am an older lady and fed up with the heavy monthly interruptions. Does it make periods lighter/stop?

It didn't stop mine but it definitely made them lighter. Ask for Mirena though as the other coils can make them heavier.

it can do, but it doesn't for everyone. I still get periods and for a while they were quite erratic, but certainly lighter.

I'm on my third one and the best thing for me is I don't get any monthly bleeding until the very end of their life cycle.

I've had mine for nearly 3 years now ~ was very painful to have put in and I would say period wise I spotted for upto 9 months regularly, now I have hardly anything. The Dr advised me that they recommend you try for at least 9-12 months before considering a removal as anything 'foreign' your body can take a while to accept & adjust.

No one has ever said they've felt the strings, the actual coil is too far up to be felt.

Would I have another one, not sure, might consider the implant instead.

I would recommend, I am on my second so had them for about 9 years now.1st one took a few months to settle down and had to have strings cut short as partner could feel them in the beginning he's about 8in.but now no periods at all, and no side effects at all for me it has been an amazing relief as periods were heavy and painful, when my gynaecologist put in the last one she informed me it will probably stay in now til I hit the menopause what a lovely thought .As to it moving or coming out with deep penetration i'm no doctor but would think highly unlikely as it it embedded inside the womb.

I have a Mirena coil and its been great, had no problems at all, though it isn't the same for everyone.

I haven't had children naturally and admittedly the doctor did struggle to insert it and it was uncomfortable but it only sore for a few hours after.

The coil is inserted through the cervix into the womb, men can't feel it, their penis cannot get into the womb. What guys may feel are the strings and there can be trimmed. The strings cannot damage a penis, they can't cut it off etc.

I did have continuous spotting for 10 days but after that I've had no bleeding at all for 4 years.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever and im due to have it changed in June this year. Im hoping that it will help against any menopausal symptoms should that start

Iv had mine since a young age due to terrible periods. I had a mirena coil for 5 years and loved it that much i had another one fitted.

I virtually bleed for about an hour a month which is fabulous and just take two paracetemol for back ache and all sorted.

Would 100% reccomend trying it x

I'm on my second and absolutely love it . I get no periods at all .. I was light but always regular before.

I'm used hard deep sex with a VWE man and no problems ever . I had problem of some degree with every other contraceptive I used prior to this. The only thing is my gynaecologist fits it under local anasethic as I have a narrow cervix and the GP can't do it.

Every woman will respond different donut will be a lottery whether it will work for you .. Worth a try though !

Better to leave the strings longer so they tuck round your cervix better.

I get acne (ok, a spot or two at a time) that I never used to get but feel so much better on it! Great for my endometriosis x

Ive had mine now for nearly 5 years. best thing i ever did. It was a good choice for me as it has seen me through the menopause too. No heavy bleeding or irregular like lots of ladies when on the menopause. no mood swings... in fact. im not sure if im all though yet or not!! haha how lucky i consider myself.Although i have had a cpl of men say they could feel it! but it did me no harm. Every woman is different though and whats good for one may not be good for another as most here have pointed out.Like someone else suggested there is also the implant. both the Merena coil and the implant have depo provera in which is the same hormone. Good luck with whatever you choose,

I think if you want a coil and are worried about headaches then the copper coil is worth looking into, it is hormone free so doesn't give you weight gain, mood swings (any more so than normal lol), headaches etc etc.

I've had the copper coil for 2 and a half years now and not had any problems with it. I too like sex to be deep and rough and was lucky enough to have a VWE ex, the only 'problem' I have had is during a particularly rough session with toys I ended up in a lot of pain, I was in agony in fact and taken to hospital with suspected womb puncture, had a scan and an internal and turns out it wasn't the coil, the coil was fine and hadn't moved at all, so not really a problem (but still scary). My ex couldn't feel it at all not even when trying to search for it that night.

It's basically a sperm blocker and that's all, just like having no contraception at all.

My Own Little World

I HATED mine.

Had it for 9 months and bled, not spotted but bled for 6 of those. Had some lovely headaches, mood swings, bloating and exhaustion, complete lack of energy and had trouble keeping my eyes open for more than 4 hours. But as a contraceptive it was brilliant, It killed my sex drive totally. Took my body about a year post removal to get back to normal.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!!

Had issues with my Mirena, within a month I had gained weight and my depression was off the scales. Tired, miserable and extremely overly emotional.

There are several lawsuits going on in America against the manufactures and licence holders.

I managed four years with it, and within half a day of it being removed, I felt like a new woman.

Have a look at the copper one, no nasty hormones.

I had one fitted when I was 42, having only given birth via c section. Bloody painful to have fitted but worth it. Within 6 months I had stopped menstruating completely, my pmt (which had been dreadful) was a thing of the past, and never had any problems with deep penetrative sex.

That said, a friend ended up having a hysterectomy as a result of having one fitted.

I'd recommend them, Certainly the best contraception I've tried, but obviously they don't suit everyone.

I was getting on really well with it for nine months then i got an abscess which ruptured my womb and i nearly died. Was in hospital for a week. Had two other friends who have been hospitalised and one 20year old local girl who died from an abscess. I had no idea what to look out for. Had sweating and delirium on and off for three weeks before the rupture. Needless to say i am not having it refitted just in case I am prone to these types of infections. Take care and be aware of the risks x

I've had mine for just over 3 years due to excessive bleeding.

Absolutely love it!!

Minimal monthly bleeding if any, no known issues that I'm aware of.

As for penetration, after 3 years, hubby just told me that he can feel something "poke" him when he's deep doggy style, but he's aware of my insert.

Haven't had an issue during a meet since the few guys I've had seem to be smaller than my hubby

I had a common copper iud fitted, so has nun of the drug (this is before I was pregnant and would like to make it clear I didn't get pregnant with it fitted) and had no problems the one I had nun of the drugs so doesn't play with your head aches or cycle of course you don't get the plus of not having your monthy. My ex used to complain he could feel but I do think there was a element of he know so he could feel.

"Was told it mite be difficult to get one in as i have a very high cervix my inside is very small , never given birth naturally either ,, so not looking good for me unfortunately , have an appt for end of month to see if it can be done

mine is high and tilted, that's why it was painful to insert but not impossible ~ good luck x

thanks "

I also have a high and tilted cervix and have had no kids. It took two consultants to fit mine! But I took some ibuprofen beforehand and it was no worse than period cramps.

Mines a copper one as they tried me on the mini pill which is the same hormone mix but I only had two moods, weepy or really really angry! They did say if I could stick it out to six months this would all settle but after getting me cycling rapidly between the two states in front of reception they decided it was best to stop the hormones!

The first three periods were heavier but after that they went back to how they'd been before.

"I Had one fitted 6 months ago ... And its been a nightmare !!! Just about to have it removed !!! Spotting for virtually the whole time !!! Thinking oh give it one more week it will stop !!! Had enough now !! think the implant may be a better option for me ! But all my friend love them ! So all down to the individual ! "

Don't worry about the spotting. I had that for about 8 months and now no periods at all. I love it. Due a new one and defo sticking with it. Only small issue is that normal time of month the discharge gets a bit acidic and bleached some black undies

That aside it's the best choice I have made. But I am sterilised now so don't need it but I like not having periods so getting it put back in.

Had coil for 5yrs then got second coil fitted within a few months I was expecting and when I went to get it out they said they couldn't retrieve it without cause me to miss carry. Was advised that it wld be fine but at six months I took septicaemia due to infection round coil. So was rushed got to theatre to be induced into labour. Left us totally devastated . Not everyone is as unlucky as me but I do believe I'm not the first to get caught out with coil.

I had mine in for a a year and a half and was constantly spotting. I had gone back to the clinic to get it checked and they referred me to a specialist. The specialist told me that there was nothing wrong and I was just unlucky.

I put up with it until I finally snapped and went back to a different clinic. They done an internal ultrasound and couldn't find it. Turns out the first one had put it in the wrong place and that's why I was bleeding.

Not saying that's what's going on with you but it might be.

My experience with the coil after the first one has been quite good. I've had my new one in for almost a year now well a year in April. No spotting, no bleeding at all whatsoever. Boyfriend can't feel it, and no problems with placement or anything else. I love it.

I've already had implanon and that caused awful side effects.

I had the copper IUD very briefly but it caused extremely heavy bleeding.

I didn't want the injection due to hearing horror stories and the pill would be a stupid thing for me to do as I would most definitely forget to take it.

It can be a hit or a miss it just depends on the person. It is brilliant if it works for you though, get it put it and you don't even need to think about it except for your check ups.

I had a procedure called Novasure which is a laser treatment that takes away the lining of the womb. Takes 30 mins under general anaesthetic, totally painless, just a few days off work, and I've never had any bleeding or pain since. My gynaecologist recommended it as the best treatment and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

My first wife had one, this was some years ago but the end of my cock kept getting spiked, it felt really sharp! I wonder if it would damage a condom? Of course I'm snipped now so I'm totally safe - pehaps you should come up and see me lol XX

I don't have the Mirina (tried it but the hormones seriously screwed me up) in have a normal copper coil and never had anyone say the notice it. To me it's only a back up anyway but good for that peice if mind in case of condom splits
