Clinic visits

Been before so know the drill. But is it best to be honest and say you swing? And even tho you always play safe does it get less nerve racking? Any specific tests I should ask for apart from the ones they do as standard? Thanks. Btw first post so sorry if I'm asking dumb questions. |

We always ask for an Oral test because not all the Gum clinics do them automatically.
At one time only Sasha was tested on the grounds that as my partner if she had a problem I would have the same problem and if she was clear so would I be clear.
But now we go together, I have to drive her there anyway so no point waiting in the car park and we just thought "What if"
What if she could be a carrier of something that didn't show up and pass that to me, what if something she got didn't show up on females for sometime but showed up on men quicker (or vice versa)
We may be wrong but she appreciates the moral support anyway. 
How often should you go, well the more the better depending on how often you meet and you have to remember that some things take weeks to show up, but it does take a couple of weeks on average to get the results unless you pay for a certificate which is normally only something those in the porn industry actually need.
So far so good, over 10 years swinging and with the help but not absolute protection of always using condoms we have never had a problem. |

oh bugga, the OP's question - we always declare we are swingers and that we use protection but like to have the peace of mind of the test.
They never bat an eyelid I think they know a chat on promiscuous sex isn't going to stop us swinging and that we do take reasonable precautions. |

Thankyou. Abz is good with sexual health. They give you a basic result within minutes with a follow up call 7-10days later if anything shows up from lab. Thankfully they have never called! I always leave visit 2weeks after meet so if there is anything it hopefully will show up by then. Good point about us both tho as it's fem that goes |

Tell them everything they are not there to judge but to be professional and part of their remit is to eradicate all STD's from circulation (a tall order I know - similar to worl peace!) so if they know about your lifestyle they can do the appropriate tests.
I find the people very pleasant and remember one nurse telling me I had 'veins like drainpipes'!
Not sure how they behave if they find anything tho - Maybe they do then lecture you? |

Yes tell them your a swinger we do. And you see i bet thay say theres staff and people thay work with them are swingers too ,,,,,, made us smile them saying that to us we go 4 / 5 times a year just to be on safe side. Thay are lovely make us feel very welcome. jo xx |

excuse my ignorance but is that thought process 100% reliable?
assuming protection failed in some way,there is a 12% chance that the HIV virus will not be passed on.its not a given.
ergo: someone can have HIV and pass it to others without infecting their life partner
not a comment on whether people should steer well clear of bareback profiles,but the sneakiness of viruses |

I've been for one of my regular checks today !...better to be safe than sorry i say...and its not just my life i could be f'ing up either..always be honest with them, they've heard it all anyway 
Its a good place to stock up on Condoms too...i cant remember the last time i actually bought any |

Scary lol, 6 cocks today, you only do bareback and you don't know what the gum clinic will or won't do as standard.
My best advice for you and your friends is to get all the details you need from this thread and pay the clinic a visit, certainly not questioning your right to do what you want but do think you need some advice about keeping yourself and your friends not just healthy but also alive. |

Interestingly, the clinic I go to don't do throat swabs - unless they're only doing a throat swab - they say that anything in the throat will natuarally travel to the genitals and show up there! They do bloods as well as routine tho. |

My GUM clinic dissuaded me from taking blood tests as they reckon I'm already very highly screened as I'm a regular a blood donor.
However a Doctor friend of mine frowns on using blood donation as a covert health screening method (I dont - it just seem slike an added bonus)
oh and what ARE the throat swabs for?? |

Throat swabs will find Hepatitus, and other things, dunno all the ins n outs but I do know cammels can carry syphalis in their saliva, perhaps we can too  |

This is not necessarily so, a friend of mines husband had oral gonorrhea but it did not travel south, luckily she was clear but now divorced lol |

I do know I asked specifically on my first visit there, and that was the answer I was given. Maybe it works differently in men and women? I will ask again on my next visit - thank you. |

Like many have said honesty is the best policy. Its not as though the people at the clinic will be shocked as they have seen it all before. |

I think it's a big scary step going to the GUM clinic, but once you're there, it's fine and you don't have to give your real name, if you wish.
Some areas offer a complete screening with their 'family planning' clinics, which may not be as off-putting for some.
I just requested everything and the results were back in a week or so, sent by text, all very 21st century!
Honesty is the best policy, as someone mentioned earlier, they've heard it all before.
I think relying on donating blood to screen for infections is irresponsible. HIV and hepatitis may not be detected for a couple of months after infection, therefore it's possible to infect many people with your donation before your infection is detected in own blood.
Answering the screening questions honestly prior to donating blood, is the best and safest policy.

In answer to Jed - Syphallis can be passed via human saliva into a cut i.e. from a bite.
Re the donating blood - the criteria for donating does not specifically exclude people with multiple partners but it's excl list is pretty thorough. I think people have to be pretty judgemental on themselves before they donate if they have not been tested.. just my opinion.. |
