Are we entitled to a private life on here?

Jump to: Newest in thread

Edinburgh.

So seingfields had hidden cameras and just this week a police man was outed.

Swingfields I'd put on par with hiding cameras in a swimming pool changing room.

The police man story used screen shots from this site and clearly he had been conned into talking to a journalist on here via personal messenger.

So are we all happy to be fodder for thicko "journalists"?

I will never ever put any face pics on fab nor send any to anyone.

If it means less meets I can easily live with that

I am even cautious about the background I use for pics as it is amazing how many people have zoomed in and mentioned places on my pics....

If he did post pictures of himself in uniform here with his face visible, then i reckon he is more of a 'thicko' than the journalist.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I find it odd that there is a profession out there which gets paid to get other people fired from their jobs for doing nothing illegal. However it's a fact that this lifestyle is still not condoned by the general public. We just have to be careful.

so given the use of screen shots from this site and journalists sitting on here waiting for stories is there collusion between them and persons connected to the site? After swingfields I thought we should consider our leagal position. Take advice. Then get an injunction. In advance.

I don't think she is waiting for a story on here. The amount she posts about her Fab life I suspect she is just one of those things - someone trying to enjoy this lifestyle.

Top tips from a journalist:

1. Never put anything on the internet or in the cloud that you wouldn't want exposed to the world.

2. Never do anything in public (including at clubs) that you wouldn't mind being exposed to the world.

3. Never tell anything to a stranger that you wouldn't want to be exposed to the world.

According to EU law - to which we are still bound until and unless we repeal the Human Rights Act - you have a right to a private life, to your sexuality, and to privately enjoy your sexuality.

However, that right can be usurped "in the public interest". A news organisation can argue that it is in the public interest if a pillar of the community such as a police officer is indulging in an "unusual" sex life. Also, anyone wearing a uniform such as police, fire, nurse, should NEVER feature it in photos on sites such as Fab and it is a reasonable clause in employment contracts that one can be fired for bringing the profession into disrepute.

Quite right.

I also don't write for newspapers or gossip magazines. I write about highly technical fields that have zero interest in sex stories.

Well exactly. If I was here to dig up personal information about people to publish I wouldn't exactly be telling people about my profession.

I organise social meeting and conferences for ethical non-monogamy. Due to this, every week I get requests from journalists who want to interview members of the groups I organise, or come to a conference.

I can usually tell who is trustworthy...if they are open about what they want to do, and have already got a commission.

The dodgy ones are those who ignore emails asking to respect members' privacy, and who are working freelance and trying to hawk an article or documentary on non-monogamy to the media.

Then there are the undercover journalists who can be a real pain but who are easy to spot.

Exactly my point, if you want a completely private life never do anything in public and the internet is the most public forum there is

"I still find it crazy that with all that's going on in the world, consenting adults having sex is newsworthy!"

I would absolutely agree, but the wider public seem to think it is of interest.

When the Max Mosely scandal hit the papers, that he'd been involved in an S&M scene with 5 escorts, a lot of people in motor racing fandom screamed "This is disgusting".

I posed a question..."Given that Max Mosley and his wife have had an open marriage for 40 years, and she was happy for him to play away....why is consensual sex and S&M such a problem?"

And you know what? Not a single person with whom I discuss motorsport could answer that...and they ended up agreeing that it really was not a big deal. Not necessarily their thing, but not a big deal.

I do feel that when people are encouraged to think, they sometimes change their minds

society has pretty much made sex lives private. it's general manners not to have everything about that in the open. it should be expected that, even if you yourself are open about your own sex life, that others do not make things public for you.

but gossip sells so the readers are thickos really, the people who get off on gossip.

Yellow journalism, where gossip rags take the moral high Road, deploring the disgusting activities, whilst writing up the graphic details.

Having their cake and eating it.

People do find it strange that journalists have to pay bills, and that's why they find and sell stories.

And just like in any other job/career, some people have far less ethics than others.

While I have the luxury of being a journalist who doesn't have to resort to selling scandals, I understand that some people have financial instability and have to do what they can to make ends meet. They don't have the luxury of turning down income - just like many other people who do other jobs.

With Mosley it was the initial false allegation that the acts involved 'nazi' themes, concerning because of his fathers past exploits (search Oswald Mosley if you dont know his history with facism). This was proven to be false but that never stops the newspapers from printing a story

Sorry but your wrong. The BDSM scene is always under threat of outing and in fact many BDSM activities are borderline illegal. The difference is that the members of the BDSM scene in the UK have come to terms with this and act accordingly.

Most people on the swing scene seem amazingly naive as to the nature of journalism in this country and its privacy laws or lack of them.

The advice given above is spot on.

I know of at least one journo on here who hides the fact because they know they will be shunned if they let it be known.

I think that privacy issues is a good reason to take precaution's.

When you get a job and sign your contract, you are normally given an A4 sheet of paper with the company rules on. When you sign the contract, you are signing that you agreen to abide by the company rules. In the small print it tells you that the rule sheet you have read is only a tiny percent of the rule book.

Many years ago I infringed a company rule and they produced a very very large book, A4 sheets about 12" thick... Trust me there is a rule covering everything including bringing the company into disrepute. If you are self employed there will be a clause to cancel your contract for linking them to disrepute...

So you may not like it but privacy needs to be taken seriously until the rest of the world is not shocked by anything other than missionary with the wife...

Actually lots of BDSM is not *borderline* illegal, it is technically just illegal under our current laws.

I put borderline because the relevant laws have never been rigorously tested in case law, so *technically* the line between legal and illegal is unclear. whichever words you choose the thrust of what I wrote remains.
