ampersand (or epershand; "&") is a logogram representing the conjunction word "and". The symbol is a ligature of the letters in et, Latin for "and".

Even I know about ampersand, what I'm asking is why people on fab use '@and' in a description of themselves or their tastes. Clearly they don't mean (andand)!

There's a glitch on this site that means that whenever someone uses "&" on their profile, it is always followed by "amp"

For some reason, it only does it on the profile programme

Simple really, the html code for a space is   a quote is " code for a Euro Symbol is &Euro; so using & in your message or profile can cause all sorts of problems! so & is the code for &.... which is fine until you use addslashes before writing it to the database and stripslashes when reading it back.... cos this converts it to text and you get to see & instead of & (they asleep yet? quick nick the porn!)

You are of course correct, but I mistakenly, typed @ instead of &!
