It's not a complete misconception. I used to work with a load of guys from Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Jamaicans. The African guys were dead against going down on women, they considered it unnecessary/weak for a 'properly virile' man to 'need' to 'have' to do it to satisfy a woman, whereas the Jamaicans were less so. Or at least that's what they said round other guys, the truth may have been different. But clearly it's a cultural thing, I'm sure black guys who've grown up in more multicultural societies will be more keen on performing oral sex on women if it's the cultural norm in that place.

Completely agree.
When I grew up, it was massively seen as a weak, 'beta' type act to 'have' to go down on a woman. However, I've seen that attitude entirely reverse. Now, being able to go down on a woman well is seen as a point of pride.
I'd argue, giving your woman pleasure on the whole has replaced that old way of thinking. So, there is a real sense of, "doing what it takes". I think music culture places a big part in this and the prominence of more notable female rappers removing the stigma from that alongside some male rappers too.
Historically, I believe it was linked to periods and the vagina being viewed as unsanitary to put your lips on but of course that view has evolved with the times.
