For groups there's little else but for 1 to 1 there's a few with genuinely good end to end encryption with control of what happens with sensitive information from the sender to others phone.
Threema I've found good and easy to use. There are others. |

People can anyway. If you upload your picture to the internet, people can download it. Kik is no different than others |
