legal disclaimer paragraph?

Jump to: Newest in thread

Why do people use the legal disclaimer paragraph?

So many profiles have this at the end and im just wandering why?

Here is a quote from the fab FAQ section.

"The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers"

So why do you have it?

Following a trend?

Thought it was real?

Profile was looking empty?

Im not having a go at those who do, I really am curious to know x

Someone obviously started it and it's just the Sheep mentality isn't it, loads follow blindly adding the same pointless text.

The best ones are that have a profile with no pictures and just a line like "looking for sex" then a large paragraph saying they will start legal proceedings against anyone using their profile

Yeah thats true.

I know there is no harm having it, But i cant figure out what people think is good about it either ... If you put your information and pictures live on the internet for all to see then im pretty sure youve just lost any meaning that paragrapgh has

In your bed

We put it on when we joined, then took it off when we read it was pointless. In the end once its on the net, it's out of your hands.

Ill be honest here, I too had it on my profile for about 2 hours, I looked it up and then realised it meant nothing... So removed it!

I think you would be better off just placing "Please dont use my information or pictures, I cant take legal action if you do but i will be upset"

. When u voluntarily post pictures onto a public website you enter the public domain. So anyone can do what they like with ya pics and you cannot do owt about it.

We had it for a while, then found out it was about as useful as a chocolate teapot, so we got rid!

Then we happened to see a very amusing take on it on someones profile, and asked if we could nick it for ours... job done lol!

Not strictly true - you still own the image copyright and it should not be used without your consent

However there may be a clause in the t&c you agree to on joining that fab hold the copyright to any pictures and by joining you assign your rights to them

However unless you are loaded you would be hard pushed to bring a case against the copyright thief! The warning serves some purpose but practically it may as well not be there for all the good it will do!

After a little problem with someone I put my own disclaimer on my profile it read something like:-

"Fuck Sydney University I know where you live and if you use my pics I'll come round and smack you in the gob"

That one worked

Any institutions or individuals using this site or any of its associated sites for studies or projects- You DO NOT have permission to use any of profile or pictures in any form unless you can photoshop me to make me look gorgeous and alter my profile to make me sound irresistible.

If you don't do this I will not be very happy Xx

Central

The legal disclaimer is now almost so long and famous that it deserves its own profile. When I'm next in Sydney I'll be getting a few students to fuck me as recompense for the server strain, and money that fab could have used instead to add more features.

We think that the leagal disclamer is vital

we did loads of research and spoke to literally one bloke who used to live next door to a lady who cleans at a solicitors office

before we very carefully copied our disclamer from an other profile

hope everyone has a fab filthy weekend

Bucks

saw a profile that went as far as to quote article 8.1 & 8.2 of the European Convention

still doubt that has any sway if you pursued them
