I love goths I even used to be one but now it’s hidden underneath corporate bullshit
Cut my life into pieces, and then present back to me in the weekly huddle with a gantt chart showing the progress of said cutting. |

As an original Gothic punk from the late 70s and early 80s, posts like this make me really cynical. I remember the abuse, name calling and physical assaults suffered by the alternative community by the trendies and casuals that are now so obsessed with Gothics. In fact I'd say most of the people wouldn't even know what a real Goth was even if they bit them on the neck |

The same applies to many of us with Irish skin… |

As mentioned multiple times in other threads, it's frustrating that you have to specify on your profile you have tattoos and piercings, yet can't search on other members with them.
Having that option would make it much easier to find people with the look that we're into. |

You're allegedly 51. You wouldn't have been abouts in the 70s.
Though I agree about getting attacked for looking different. Even in fairly recent times you'd sophie Lancaster murdered because of how she looked.
All the ones loving it now probably wouldn't have had the balls to look different or tall to different looking people back in th_ day.
Wasn't just young people attacked us. I remember having to boot fuck out of a man on his 30s when I was about 15 for abusing goth and punk girls.
He thought I'd be an easy touch because of how I looked. He was wrong.
Always been dubious of straights who claim to like the alternative look. |

The comment reeks of self-smugness, which is not something I would associate with goths but then again what do I know, I'm not an original goth. |

Would hardly say it was smugness. Just how it was. Original goths were very elitist. |

I'm glad to come on the newer wave of non elitist goths then 💜 |

Always been dubious of straights who claim to like the alternative look." I was born in 74' with two older brothers who were also into the scene. Punk started 77' so yes I was around. Yes I grew up in that period and yes I listened to the tapes and albums my brothers played until I was old enough to buy my own. As for being smug or elitist nah as I said it wasn't just about wearing black or fetish type clothing it was a total sub culture that today most don't understand. That was my point if you don't like it then I'm sorry but that's your problem not mine. |

I still get called names, usually by younger “trendy” lads, I actually started to tone down my look until recently when I stopped giving a fuck |

What I'm saying is (and before anyone accuses me of kink shaming) it has become fetishism which when we are talking about people means it leads to objectification and dehumanisation. You fancy someone because of their culture not for who they are. |

You can find an aesthetic attractive without automatically fetishising or objectifying a person.
Particularly when in regards to the purpose of this thread, where it is all about the aesthetic, not about the culture or heritage.
Dude just likes girls in fishnets and dark makeup. And that's okay 💜 |
