Which ship was this ? All Royal Caribbean Cruise ships I have been on ban it except on your own balcony. Every other cruise line I have been on ban it throughout the ship. |

Yep, just been away abroad after a few years of uk holidays and I didn’t see a single topless woman. But the number wearing bikini bottoms that didn’t cover their bum cheeks was amazing. |

That is an interesting question. The answer to which seems to be complex with political, cultural and social drivers. The change has been most marked in France which used to pride itself on being liberated and free from patriarchal pressure; topless bathing being a physical manifestation of this attitude. In the 70s, 75% of French people approved and 50% of women sunbathed topless. that has dropped to 20% for older women and just 2% of under 35s. Reasons for the decline suggested have been the pornifaction of women, the ubiquity of camera phones giving rise to a fear of being filmed, fear of being attacked, worries about skin cancer and women becoming more modest. We didn’t see one single woman sunbathing topless on the beach in Antibes a few weeks ago. It still seems relatively commonplace in Spain amongst Spanish women based on our observations on the beach in Alicante.

I’ve only ever been on 2 cruises and didn’t see anyone topless sunbathing. It was VERY family heavy though so maybe that’s the way to judge it? It’s a tricky one really but I’d judge it off what others are doing |

Definitely happening less and less over the years. C loves going topless but has to be careful nowadays.
I remember a holiday back in 1989 in Rhodes in a very good hotel where most of the women were topless by the pool including my girlfriend.
In my repping days in Corfu and Skiathos in 92-95 all the female reps went topless on whichever beach we went to. |
