We was thinking of going to Thailand again this year (heaven on earth) but with the ongoing conflict with Cambodia we aren't sure.
Has anyone been to Vietnam? If so what's it like? Anywhere you'd recommend? |

Went to Vietnam and then Thailand for 3 weeks in 2018. It was our first time in S.E. Asia.
Enjoyed Thailand but loved Vietnam. Went to Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long Bay, Hanoi. Was just blown away by everything about the place. |

Yes. Both are obviously very different to here in the UK. But Vietnam just felt that little bit “more different” if that makes sense. Less developed both economically and for tourism. That’s not to say it’s not tourist friendly, it is, and of course you can find western hotels and restaurants and coffee shops etc if you want. But it just felt like a completely different world in every sense. Thailand felt a little more familiar, maybe that’s because we’d acclimatised as we went to Thailand after Vietnam. But having been to both only once, and if I had to choose one, it’s Vietnam I’d go back to.

I did the same tour in November 2018 and totally agree with them...
I found Vietnam amazing, the cities are fun and people help you with anything, just once ive been looked too many times because foreign 😅
Compared to Thailand though, I've found it less relaxing but probably that's because im in love with Thailand beaches |

Definitely Vietnam. It gets nicer as you go north. Fly into Ho Chi Minh City. Then do an internal flight to DaNang for it, Hue and Hoi An. Then another internal flight to Hanoi for it, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay. Then fly out from there. |

Done Thailand Vietnam and Cambodia. Thailand and Cambodia very similar. Cambodia edges it for me as less rowdy tourists there and they are lovely people that are bullied by their neighbours Thailand and Vietnam.
Vietnam was good but nothing you wouldn't see in Europe hills and countryside. Totally different to Thailand and Cambodia but great value for money . Thailand for the beaches , Cambodia for rawness and unbelievable beaches on the islands but lots of rubbish washes up daily due to the lack of financial support . Vietnam for the coffee shops best in the world . People are a bit more direct there not as friendly as thaolybut still friendly than Europeans .
Thai food hands down is the best compared to Cambodia and Vietnam |

Have only been to Vietnam. Started from Hanoi and worked down to HCMC.
We did a day boat cruise in Ha Long Bay. It's beautiful, but gkad we didn't do 1 or 2 nights.
Ninh Binh is stunning. It's about 2 hours or so from Hanoi. Visit Tam Coc. Stunning views when you reach the top of a mountain, can't remember the name.
Da Nang has a long nice beach. And Hoi An is just a short drive away.
I found both Hoi An and HCMC full on. But lovely and safe.
The peoppe are friendly if you make the effort also.

I was stuck in Pattaya for two weeks. Worst of the worst in Thailand. I would only ever recommend that place for two days maximum once you get off the plane get in the taxi and stay there to acclimatise. Then carry on down the coast to other islands eg Koh larn Koh samet Koh Chang Koh mak Koh kood then over to Cambodia. |

Hoi An was my favourite place in Asia . Had everything. Majority of
Vietnam is too similar to Europe in most places for scenery with exception of Ha Giang Loop in the north which I never got to . I didn't rate the food in Vietnam as everything was virtually noodle soups really ie phu. If you're travelling 13hours to a far fetched destination you want beaches and beach bars. Thailand will always win with that but Cambodia if had investment would easy rival most of Thailands island. |

Yes the war museum in HCMC. I would actually go as far as saying HCMC is better than Bangkok imho. The city was buzzing . The weather in Vietnam on the coasts is very windy usually as it's next to the china sea . I was unlucky when I was there in April as I ended up wearing jumpers most the time. So didnt enjoy it so much probably because of that reason. Like I say Thailand and Vietnam are two very very different countries and you can't compare . Great if you're travelling around as the variation of scenery. I loved that oneday you're in a city then a beach then hills and mountains |
