We really want to go to Amsterdam looking for advice on where to stay we have seen about the 12.5 % tax when you get there but haho is what it is

We dont want to be to far away from the hustle and bustle of the night life. Any info would be much appreciated we have done the google search but with no success we are party people that like to mingle please help as we keep saying we are going but always end up somewhere else warm 🤣🤣

Get a hotel near the airport and drive in or get the train. Last time I was in NL stayed further south and drove around a bit

Like I said we are party people and like a drink so driving is not an option or I would go in our campervan 🤣🤣

I stayed at the rembrandtplein hotel, was quite cheap and definitely not the ritz, but was just somewhere to lay our heads. It was walking distance to everything and a great location. This was about 12 years ago so not sure what the stay is like now

Regular in Amsterdam here.

Soon as you arrive at the airport station get a 3 day travel card.

Google Amsterdam club nights and get a 2 day club pass. This allows you to club hop over the weekend and is cheaper than paying on the door.

Staying close to the RLD is expensive but worth it.

UBER to fata is close to £100 each way. So Sameplace is a good option.

Been about 8 times. Only got an Airbnb once. Used to prefer staying in hostels. Met new people and had some fun in a few too

Plenty of lovely places to stay, rembrantplein and vondel are good areas and the obvious red light district.

I'd stay central otherwise its public transport and thousands of steps

Wandering around the red light district is always fun, although I'm not sure that the guy outside of one of the live sex shows, claiming it to be "good family entertainment", wasn't commiting some breach of trading standards! (it was also dull as dishwater).

I've been loads over the years and I'd say my most memorable (and surprising) highlight, was taking a night time meal cruise on the canals. We had low expectations (thinking it'd be very touristy), but the food, while simple fare, was delicious and the views are really charming from that perpective, with all the lights etc.

It's a lovely city. Enjoy!

Stayed on the outskirts and got the bus in each day plus it was on the wetlands with amazing wildlife and birds (the feathered variety?

We stayed at a place called Hotel 83 in the heart of the red light district, great location if you want to be in the heart of the action

We stayed in the NH Collection Barbizon Palace. Close to the station and the nightlife in the centre. Such a wonderful place to visit!

Hope you have fun!

Aussies who live in NL

If you're coming to visit, do it properly, stay in the middle of the city in the first 'ring' if you can

That gets you walking distance to everything you would want in terms of red light district, bars, restaurants, canal tours, etc
