I think it opens a whole can of worms and if I have to give out personal details to access any adult site, including this one, I will just stop. Shame, but thats the way I feel. It leaves people wide open to corruption and I am not prepared to risk my good name. |

Spot on. I advise people don't fall into the trap. Don't put your details in the hands of a dodgy admin organisation no matter how authentic they make out they are. Shame on the goverment for not educating the kids properly to not look at adult content. Their accounts should have adult content blocks on.
They cand can still borrow an over 18 friend id to access. It's a blatant ploy to spy on peoples viewing habits.
It won't stop kids viewing porn.

Quite interested to know what the mechanisms will be for this.
I suspect that the government is hoping that people's fear of providing personal Info to prove age will stop them visiting sites. |

It is what it says it is Virtual (not actual) private network. Anything virtual is by definition not real, relying on software, which as we all no can be hacked, even by a smart kid. Some VPNs are free they can use your data, not sure if this includes personal details but assume so.
Personally I wouldn't trust them. Facebook came a cropper with a similar setup.
The internet is far from secure even with VPNs. |

It's going to ruin genuine sites like Fab. We refuse to put ourselves on a government sponsored database of verified porn users to be seen by all and sundry and used against us at a later date when the list goes public, and it will one way or another.
People have lost jobs or kids through social media posts being used against them, imagine if your porn viewing preferences were used in legal battles or job applications etc, it's coming, we're moving beyond Orwells 1984.
All the while kids are still getting to it because they're smart and want to. |

You touch on a very good point.
Also how many kids will look at porn, be tracked and then be affected later on in life? We’ve all seen people in public life suddenly have an old Twitter post come back to haunt them. |

I totally agree, never trust online registration, I don't even trust the banks, why trust a government sponsored VPN. The government the experts on leaks. They can f right off as far as I'm concerned. |

That's correct I won't use adult content sites, I'll go back to playing vynil, paying by cash, wearing loud shirts with big collars, flares and using payphones. We're out of Europe, we don't have Concorde. Americas going to the moon. By golly it's 1968 again.

But you happily put your credit card into Lovehoney to but a dildo, have a Nectar card or collect reward points for your supermarket shopping? Anyone who works in IT (which I do) knows how highly regulated your privacy is and how high the fines will be for any GDPR privacy breaches. You are more likely to have a Nigerian scammer in Facebook or a dating site. |

Like 99 % of the population we look at porn. We are grown ups. We look at legal porn with the odd fetish but it's still all legal.
Its likely you may need to buy some id type card thing where you supply proof of age then you use that on sites. So the only organisation that has your personal details is the organisation that provides the card. They don't know what porn you look at and the porn providers don't have your bank details. They will at most have a name and some form of registration number.
I can't imagine many people being that interested in my porn viewing habits. At the end of the day if any of this is made public your normally entitled to some form of compensation and companies can't hold it against you for hiring and firing. |

If anyone is thinking of a VPN try a paid one (wouldn't trust a free one although there are plenty out there), I have been using one for years (when required). Costs me £2 a month (DigiBit), with a small discount.
Not had any problems.

Wrong, the company charged with administrating this ID system is Mindgeek who happen to own Redtube,Pornhub,Youporn and many others. If instagram,Sony, nintendo and other big companies get hacked for info you can bet your bottom dollar that this database will be highly sought after, and it can ruin lives, to think that your porn surfing habits or content is of no interest to others is absolutely naive. To anyone who has a job contract that prohibits sites like fab or if you're in the care/medical/education/politics field or even if your contract has the term 'brings the company into disrepute' in it then beware, you're going to be exposed at some point. The first step after introduction of this censorship will be access for law enforcement, then it'll be other government departments that'll get access, then it'll be any potential employer.
If you trust the 8th most corrupt government in the world with the 2nd most censored internet to protect you then your hope is lost
