Agreed; it isn't what it was 20 years ago. The trouble is most of the alternative places like Bonds, Millionaires/Exile, Central Park etc. have disappeared. Even John Bright Street is dead these days.
I'm just glad I'm not in my 20s and living in Birmingham anymore. Birmingham's 90s nightlife rivalled Manchester's but not any more. And Birmingham is supposed to be the UK's "youngest" city in terms of population demographics.
