Other than the olympic site andd westfield Stratford has little going for it. But it is well connected to the rest of London |

There's always Shoreditch / Liverpool street which is approx 20 mins from Stratford. Lots of bars in that area too.
Westfield has restaurants. Not many bars apart from the casino which has a decent bar and live music...

I live in Canning Town, so quite near to Stafford. As others have said, other than the Westfield and the Olympic park there's not a huge amount there. It depends what you want really. You can walk from Stratford down the canal to Bow or to Limehouse. Greenwich isn't far away and has the 02 or the Cutty Sark and the maritime museum and observatory (nice parks there). Or you can go to Liverpool St if you want boozy bars |
