I was a bit bored this evening and something was bothering me about the how much abuse that people on the tube we’re getting. I was a bit miffed at the numbers that have been quoted so I decided to double check them.

Peak time capacity reduced by 45% so assuming 1000 people get on a train every 3 mins for an hour during peak so that means 20,000 people 20 trains hour normally so only 11 trains an hour run. Assuming 95% reduction in passengers so that is means 1000 people over 11 trains which means 90 people per train - hmmm - so in theory. So that means approx a reduction of about 81% but the tubes are not 81% less full so something is right with the reported figures lol - being a geek

So either tfl or the government is bullshitting number somewhere

being also a transport geek and knowing people inside tfl from my old job both in theory are true...

what is happening is that there is about a 90 minute window in the morning peak where everything is going ballistic..... somewhere between about 7am and 8.30am

then actually outside of that the transport system itself is very very quiet

hopefully with construction sites being given extra working hours of working now this "should" spread out some of this and relieve pressure....

the new "normal" may be longer potential working hours to spread out the amount of people working at any given time....
