Will Europe ban Americans? They seem to be falling apart. Their infection rate is heading to apocolyptic proportions.

They've managed to make the whole world a more dangerous place right in the middle of a global crisis.

It's a difficult one as the EU has a border between Northern Ireland and Ireland that is open. If the Americans can get to the UK, they could walk into the EU.

I think the EU were looking at external countries where they exceeded infection thresholds - I'm not sure how far away the UK is from the US levels. I'm uncertain that it would happen

Whilst the American case rate of 7567 per million of the population is higher than ours at 4537 they do seem to be making a better job of keeping people alive as their death rate of 383 per million of the population is way below ours at 637, which incidentally is the 2nd highest in the world.

Despite what Trump says about testing too many people their test rate of 92854 per million is way below ours which is currently 128317 per million.

Why not India or brasil? They are in bad way and do you really believe the stats coming out of various countries?

The OP is not bashing America.

It is the European Union that is that is considering banning US travellers due the high rate of infection in that country.

A key problem is the way countries are benchmarked...

Plus there is a huge problem in that are all countries reporting all their figures or are they manipulating the information to not look as bad.

As with all statical analysis if the raw data is wrong your stats will be wrong.

"After the dim wits on our beaches yesterday mmmmm let me think "

I agree about the dimwits who are going to the beech, those people having large gatherings like ravas. But it is to be expected, especially with young people. When I was young I believed I was immune to any health risk and also the desire to socialise and have fun was stronger than logical reasoning. Couple that with the mixed messages and confusion of coming out of lockdown from the government and the Dominic Cummings saga, no wonder people have had enough of being told what to do and thinking sod it.

Back to the Op's question, if we ban someone from a country, then we should ban all countries. France, Spain and Greece are already negotiating on 'Air Bridges' with the UK, so I find it hard to trust that the powers that be have our best interest at heart.

The media quote figures in sensationalist way, ngl shocking presentation gets viewers or readers ! With all the data when comparing results of countries there are many factors to remember.

People per sq mile. In the U.K. this is way higher than most if not all eu countries.

Cultural greetings, the continental kiss

Age of population

Quality of healthcare

Social differences, in the us they have a greater emphasis on church going, as with job mobility between towns and states going to church aids a new friendship base when you move job.

I personally have no time to adjust figures but when you read the media claims pause and think why would there be a difference? Essentially don’t trust the headlines think a little use your own judgement.

I think the point is, do we want to risk having even more infected people get ferried into the country?

There's going to be a boundary level of when people can safely enter without increasing the risk of infection within the existing population. The US is well above that right now.

And added to that, some people who recover from it don’t produce any antibodies at all, so they don’t even get the two-three months immunity.

But you and I can think logically...but trump will take it as a personal attack on him. Hence we might as well wait until Independence Day to do it

I agree somewhat as this country has a population of around 67 million and half a million where on Bournemouth beaches....that is almost 1% of the population in the uk.

But I still think the government has not been clear enough in thier messages..ie the coming 1 metre rule....its all over the place and puts the onus on each individual. Now that can be hard to manage when the majority around you are acting like think cunts

At the moment we don't know how much, if any, immunity is gained, as well as how this disease could be for someone who catches it again. It can damage and destroy our vital organs and multiple brain damage caused could be worse than boxers getting lower level brain injury over a career. We have people getting strokes from it but the more invisible brain injury attacks could be another silent killer from it. We already know that men are more likely to die from covid19 and they are generally at greater risk for getting brain injuries and damage. Successive infections for men could be horrific.

An aside from the topic - banning the US visitors. We'll be affected by European actions.

The government is going to announce the new travel restrictions this week. It seems likely to remove some countries from the need for 14 days quarantine, adjusting the countries over time. Visitors could perhaps be forced into immediate isolation rather than giving into public and travelling etc, from very high risk countries as should have been done at the start, if not banned. We can't currently travel to some EU countries, despite free movement - there's no blanket freedom.

The UK is amongst the most affected countries and so fewer places are worse than us.

Are none of you thinking if the most powerful countries in the world are showing these sorts of numbers, whats happening in the third world?

Having spoken to a client who is based in Mumbai earlier this week, we are being kept totally in the dark as to the scale of the epidemic in their country.

It has been so bad in the one state that every member of staff in one hospital contracted the virus causing them to close the hospital completely.

And we think we have it bad!

More MSM generated hysteria.

The 'spike' is due to better testing.

The US authorities are up to 500k tests per day.

Let's hope that other countries don't say ban the UK when BoJo announced a relaxation on foreign travel for UK citizens and the end of the 14 day quarantine.

I was thinking the same, I have biker mates who travelled around Africa and said the locals were so helpful and friendly. They’ve been trying to get info, so if needed would arrange some aid. But information isn’t easy to find, especially one village that looked after them after a little spill they had when travelling.

the EU guidemarks are based on figures per 10,000 people tested... so it takes into account that some countries test more than others.... the us is something like 2.5 times over the accepted figure!!

so it looks like the EU ban is coming in as of July 1st......

**”The 'spike' is due to better testing.”**

True that better testing can produce higher figures.

However, in the southern states in the US, the infection rate is increasing, and that’s not just because of extra testing.

The number of hospitalisations in Texas have not only increased, but have reached a record high.

This has caused Texas and Florida states to reimpose some lockdown restrictions which they had lifted earlier.

So things are getting worse, and that’s not because of the extra testing done.

" Their infection rate is heading to apocolyptic proportions.

"

How are you defining infection rate? A bit of residual Covid virus detected by a PCR test that the inventor specifically said should not be used for assessing infection is of no use (which is what is happening).

The narrative has of course changed from first scaring people with deaths, then cases and now infections.

The latter two are pointless because it is completely dependent on how many amplification cycles that the PCR test is run. As there is no standardisation no one is comparing the same thing. It is pointless.

Across similar demographics with similar weather/temperature patterns the Covid mortality figures are broadly similar. The overall infection fatality rate ends up being around 0.14 to 0.25% Mostly affecting the very elderly with co morbidities. Overall these figures are broadly similar to severe flu,

Obesity is a big factor in increasing deaths and Americans are one of the most overweight societies; so of course overall more of them will die.

Likewise here in the UK Joe Public is still shouting, "lock us up to keep us safe, wear a filthy mask you granny killer" whilst the concept of losing weight, getting fit and taking responsibility for their own health is no doubt met with a look of incredulity.

‘….in the first meta-analysis of its kind, published on 26 August in Obesity Reviews, an international team of researchers pooled data from scores of peer-reviewed papers capturing 399,000 patients. They found that people with obesity who contracted SARS-CoV-2 were 113% more likely than people of healthy weight to land in the hospital, 74% more likely to be admitted to an ICU, and 48% more likely to die.’

So instead of banning Americans it would probably have more effect banning junk food and mandating that everyone got their BMI to 25 or less. But guess what? That would require people to take drastic measures for their own health and that would never do.
