I'm. Looking forward to regaining the freedom to hug my elderly, vulnerable mother and to be intimate again with my young but critically vulnerable partner.

Of that requires me to take a vaccine which has gone through the regulated certification process, i an happy to do so.

We aren’t talking about cancer, so not quite sure how this is relevant.

But I would like to say that I’m sorry to hear your bad news though - I really do wish you all the best.

Wow.

Not having to wear seatbelt is a lost freedom.

Not having to wear a crash helmet is a lost freedom.

Having organised crossing places on roads is a lost freedom.

Not having the ability to drive vehicels that don't have appropriate MOT's in place is a lost freedom.

Not having the general ability to own a hand-gun is a lost freedom.

Not been able to drive the wrong way up a motorway is a lost freedom.

Not being able to keep your children from being educated is a lost freedom.

. . . and the billion other lost freedoms, ad-infinitum.

NOT being forced to HAVE a vaccination is a freedom you already have.

If wearing a mask to protect others is a so bothersome to you - you really need to re-evaluate your life.

Only in this country do we make such a drama over it. Perhaps this is partly why we can’t get on top of our numbers? I really can’t understand this ‘nobody is going to tell me what to do’ attitude. In other countries you don’t get that choice. No mask - go away. I approve of that approach.

Here we go again with the logic that a lack of evidence to prove something is true is proof that it is untrue.

Where is the peer reviewed scientific study which shows face masks have no positive effect on the spread of Covid-19?

"Here we go again with the logic that a lack of evidence to prove something is true is proof that it is untrue.

Surely if the science proves that face masks prevents or reduces you or others from contracting a coronavirus type virus then every single winter from november through to febuary face masks would have been made mandatory every single year to prevent the spread of flu which does happen to kill tbousands each and every year.

Also as in the qoute i posted above people are not trained how to use masks.

They touch them repeatedly, they remove them constantly, they re-use same cloth mask over and over.

People leave masks in their cars and for convience when ever they need to go in a shop or garage.

This is not helping prevent spread of a virus it is imfact going to be doing the opposite.

Also when walking my dog yesterday i counted 10 disgarded face masks just laying around the place.

But most of these comments are not about logic.

Its about grown mature adults whinging like little babies about wearing a safety precaution.

In many cases the same adults whinging they have lots their adult freedoms to meet others on this website to fuck.

Wearing a mask in many parts of the world is normal behaviour, not enforced by governments but to protect one's own health and limit the spread of disease to other people.

Wear £3.99 in crowded places and stop fucking crying into social areas of the internet your freedoms are taken from you.

I don't see anyone whinging that their £1000 smartphone manufacturer, isp and every app on their phone is monitoring them exercise all their freedoms on the Internet.

Would the fact most scientific opinion seems to back the use of masks sway you or is the fact you've decided they are silly outweighs their knowledge. The fact you are backing the words of someone you say you have never heard of begs the question how much research you've done.

"Maybe you should travel to Asia... Where mask wearing has been a thing for about 2 decades for an number of health reasons."

I've travelled all around asia a couple years back for 6 months.

You try make it sound like every asian was wearing a face mask.

I can assure you from my experience that hardly any asians was wearing a face mask anywhere.

When i was using their train public transport out of a full carrage of asians maybe 1 had a face mask on.

And it was never mandatory.

So again answer the question.

IF face masks has the science behind it saying that it protects you and others was corona type viruses like covid, like flu, like colds then why hasnt it been mandated to be compulsory to wear face coverings for decades every single winter/flu season?

In order to save thousands upon thousands of lifes and hundred of thousands if not millions of cases?

The reason being is simply because science knows face masks are ineffective against those types of virus.

This is simply fact.

If it wasnt fact the second covid 19 hit our shores mask wearing would have been one of the first things implemented.

The science behind face masks has been seriously misunderstood by many people including the government. It IS a fact that if you wear a mask it will not stop you from getting infected, but this isn't what it's supposed to do. Masks DO reduce the distance that the virus carrying moisture in your breath is able to be projected. The mask is not supposed to protect the wearer. It doesn't even need to be a special mask to have a positive effect, anything that covers the nose & mouth is going to help... if it's getting damp, then it is effectively limiting the moisture.

The idea that the government WANT people to cover their faces is totally bonkers. They have spent billions on face recognition systems which are currently rendered pointless by masks.

It’s incredible how many people now have health issues which they say prevent mask wearing. Wearing a mask does not affect your oxygen levels or breathing. People are full of excuses. I know there are always exceptions but really I don’t see a reason why people can’t wear a mask or a visor.

"

The answer is quite simple if you step out of your echo chamber. This is a novel virus to which we've not been exposed, and no innate immunity and to some people is deadly, there is no current vaccine, and our understanding of the condition it causes (COVID) has also rapidly changed since it was first identified. All the other viruses you mention are not novel, we have a level of immunity (whether personal or herd) against them, have vaccines, and in the case of other coronaviruses do not cause anything worse than a cold (SARS & MERS excluded).

Face masks have not been mandatory because of these reasons, and to prevent PPE shortages.

The scientific consensus has also changed, ask me 6 months ago and I would likely have agreed they do not help, but in the light of the new consensus, face masks aid in preventing the spread. Are they a panacea, no, but it's one small ask that we can all take in battling the virus.

This could be partly explained by the fact that surgical procedures take place in extremely clean environments, with sterile equipment being handled by healthy surgeons.

The situation in a supermarket is markedly different, with some very unhygienic people coughing up phlegm from the depths of their disease ridden lungs. (Only a slight exaggeration) But the fact remains, there is a virus going around, spread by droplets of the sort expelled by coughs, sneezes, throat clearing and even by normal conversations.

How about we try to minimize these effects for a short while?"

I waw about to say the same thing. These papers are about the use of masks in a surgery, not out in public places.

Which report? The Government's own review was published by Public Health England on the 26th June 2020 (but wasn't made public until later)

It' titled

They don't wear masks in hospitals to stop viruses and never have,it's to stop bacteria spreading. Viruses are way to small. To stop a virus you need a bio suit.

Indeed where they are being used with strict protocols for putting them on, wearing them and their disposal in a sterile environment (where if they do work there should be firm evidence of their effectiveness). There isn't any such evidence.

Meanwhile Joe Public is using non sterile masks improperly and apparently they will be effective. They won't.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

One word... Smallpox

Eradicated.. admittedly the only infectious disease to be eradicated thus far, but others are almost there..

Polio, TB, tetanus, measles, hepatitis, mumps, to name a few, are all disease that have been almost totally eradicated thanks to mass inoculation.

Of course, you could put your tinfoil hat on and join the merry band of people that believe some inoculation cause autism or that 5g masts are responsible for covid and that any injections the UK government offer us are merely a way to get DNA samples from us all and inject us with nanobots to turn us into a mind controlled army to fight against an insidious eastern enemy, unwittingly controlled by a bunch of 6 year olds playing the latest version of Minecraft.

As for me, i have signed up for clinical trials of a vaccine; should i be chosen, it will be my little bit i did to help find a cure.

Idiot I hear you shout..

Yes, maybe...I'm obviously just a dumb sheep being led to the proverbial slaughter..

And as a sheep, i also comply with wearing a face mask when in shops because it doesn't inconvenience me much, if at all, do me any harm and it's the socially responsible thing to do and hopefully, it will reduce the chances of me and my family from becoming ill from the disease.

But the one good thing about being a sheep is I don't have to worry about catching mad cow disease...

I think it’s safe to say that those few who say they know better and won’t be wearing masks are not going to be convinced otherwise, as they keep telling us.

What they do away from the courage of their keyboard we’ll never know, or possibly care.

Since when was a politician a trained medical professional?

Liam Fox.

Rosena Allin-Khan MP still works as a doctor during parliamentary recess or Sarah Wollaston who stood down at last election. The last Irish PM worked as a doctor during the lockdown in addition to leading a caretaker government.

They have made their minds up. Rather than follow the rules they protest against them. No one really knows who’s right but most governments across the world say wear masks. So We will stick with what they recommend over hearsay , Facebook, Karen, and what ever else is said.

So what are you saying? That because a "most" people won't know if they have the virus, those who end up in ICU or dying from the virus are insignificant? What freedom are we sacrificing that justifies their suffering and death? Giving up our freedom? It sounds like we're all in chains!

Are you aware that cross immunity in SARS survivors seems to protect them from Covid-19?

Meaning that if they had ever gone through with developing the SARS vaccine we may have had a ready go solution in January.

I may be safe from covid killing me but I have members of my family that are in the increased risk category. I will do what needs to be done to keep them safe. If that means wearing a mask and a small injection keeps them safe and allows me to return to life as we knew it then sign me up

Having been in a quiet part of Spain for the last month I can share a few lessons. I have a family home there and have visited the same beach resort for nearly 20 years and stayed in the same small development of 6 villas. There's 2 British couples that live there permanently. They took/are taking covid very seriously.... Masks everywhere or face hefty fines of €1000 and they're being handed out everywhere! Beaches are patrolled and there are signs everywhere about what you need to do and I'm talking proper metal sign post signs, not a paper sticker..! The Guardia there carry guns and big sticks and aren't afraid to use them, they command respect and you do as you're told, this to me is a big difference from police here! There have been 80 ish cases in the area where I have my second home, all of those have occurred in the last 3 weeks, and all have been brought in from other Spanish regions! When this all kicked off in March, people from. Northern Spain and Madrid headed south to their holiday homes, police put up road blocks and turned them back!! They kept things isolated. Its safe and serious in most of southern Spain. Perhaps Britain should take a look at them...! My understand is that I can get on a plane tomorrow and head to Portugal but I can't go to my local shop! Logical... I think not! Anyway, I've been tested today and will hear back on the next few days, I've also had my wife and children tested to see if they have It!

Most are happy to wear masks and comply with all rules because it makes them feel safer and they also want to avoid fines! It's mostly young people that aren't taking any notice. They don't agree with the travel advice to Spain from the UK and it will see a lot of businesses go under that rely on the tourist income. They aren't angry really, most just seem sad abiut it.

I’ve just seen the story on the bbc, so she can’t wear a mask because her child is autistic. And now she’s afraid to leave house because of the abuse by one person gave her a panic attack. Yet when you look at her wide open Facebook page she’s happily out. And she’s been slagging off the government for months. And has shared Numerous anti mask pages since June. She also has a husband who could maybe go shopping for her or watch her children. She also is a journalist.

If your exempt then fair enough but don’t moan when other people question it as they are just as scared of life at the moment .

I'm looking to gaining back the freedom to walk around without risking killing anyone simply by breathing.

It's a nice freedom to have. One worth giving up the right not to wear a mask in a private business who can ultimately dictate whatever policies they deem fit for the safety of their staff.

If someone is exempt from having to wear a face covering,it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't wear one,,,,voluntarily.

Like the elderly gentleman I saw in the supermarket earlier. He was easily in his 80's,using a walking aid and looking rather frail, very likely exempt from having to wear a mask, yet he was wearing one.

If he,and others like him,can be strong and brave enough to make this sacrifice then so can most people younger and stronger...only,it seems a lot of them can't.

There is only ever one reason for a person to not be wearing a mask and that is,they have chosen not to,, possibly indicating that they don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

Wonder how many non mask wearers would wear an oxygen mask if their plane got into difficulty or a gas /breathing mask if they were stuck in a building fire. What about if they got ill and needed a ventilator. Or pregnant and wanted gas and air. Or one of many other reasons.

People with breathing difficulty are different from people that refuse to wear a mask to shop. Most people refuse because they just don’t want to. But will soon wear one if their life depended on it . There are very few people who physically can’t wear a mask yet half the people in shops aren’t wearing them.

Not overly sure what CPAP masks do. But aren’t they to help you sleep, stop Snoring and for sleep apnea? Would she wear the CPAP mask into a shop then instead of a cloth mask ?

Not overly sure what CPAP masks do. But aren’t they to help you sleep, stop Snoring and for sleep apnea? Would she wear the CPAP mask into a shop then instead of a cloth mask ? "

How on earth would she wear a CPAP mask to go shopping.

She has sleep apnea and asthma.

Be fore you answer we both had the virus in early april thanks to the nhs sending 3 infected patients to the nursing home she works in.

People with breathing difficulty are different from people that refuse to wear a mask to shop. Most people refuse because they just don’t want to. But will soon wear one if their life depended on it . There are very few people who physically can’t wear a mask yet half the people in shops aren’t wearing them. "

Saw a bloke in the supermarket last week not wearing one.

He was whizzing up and down the aisles with a big shopping trolley of stuff and wasn't the least bit out of breath.

She can't.

She wears a visor.

She cannot wear a cloth mask .

CPAP masks help her breath.

Cloth masks hinder her breathing.

Some interesting reads here.

I started wearing re-usable dust masks and volunteer made cloth masks in shops when it became mandatory, not a moment before. They’re not effective in the slightest at preventing viral transmission because that’s not what they are designed for. I only wear them because I need to go shopping and can’t afford to pay a fine.

Here’s my reasoning.

PPE shortages for the people that actually need them.

Remember that? Now everyone is walking around incorrectly wearing single use surgical masks and discarding them in the street. This angers me no end. Have they forgotten that NHS staff were wearing bin bags, marigolds and swimming goggles because the government in all its greed outsourced management of the U.K. pandemic stockpile to a criminal organisation? I am a volunteer area co-ordinator for a project that has supplied over 200,000 3D printed faceshields to health care professionals in the U.K. and several African nations. Free of charge. Locally my team has supplied 2615 faceshields to NHS and care workers. I was still supplying the NHS with home made PPE when things started opening up and Amazon were selling clean room manufactured CE marked face shields to hairdressers at £25 a go. Theres 8 billion people in the world, we can’t produced 8 billion single use surgical masks a day. PPE is being distributed according to ability to pay, not according to need and that is wrong. The PPE supply chain is not secure, it is incredibly fragile and rife with corruption. Our government is awarding 100s of millions to their friend’s and donors who have no ability to supply usable PPE. And what happens when Trump buys up the entire world supply of surgical masks like he did with Remsdvir? There are health care workers the world over who still don’t have access to adequate PPE.

If you are buying up and using surgical masks to make yourself feel better about going to the shops because you’re privileged enough to be able to afford them you are not benevolent you are selfish.

And don’t try and call me selfish for being an anti masker. I’ve volunteered over 500 hours and donated over £60k worth of PPE to those that actually need it, all while having all of my income stripped from me, denied support, and watching my savings evaporate.

I will be accepting a vaccine IF one becomes available. And that’s a BIG if.

Banging on about the virtue of mask wearing when you don’t have working knowledge of the PPE supply chain is just virtue signalling.

The introduction of mandatory masks in shops has nothing to do with public health, it is about consumer confidence.

Since when was a politician a trained medical professional?"

Round about the time brazen singers became scientific medical advisers I suspect.

At the end of the day does it really hurt to comply with 1 small request? NHS staff have been wearing them for between 8-12 hours a day.

Also the wearing of the mask is a visual reminder to keep your distance.

I may get backlash for this but even if it saves one human life I will wear a mask. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I infected someone,a loved one or even a complete stranger. Although it won't impact most people's lives I already know two people who have died from this virus.

Generally just don't go shopping any more so avoiding spreading the virus, but when I do wear one of those paper masks an interesting reaction happens

What I found personally was that it triggers a cough response. I thought it was just me but was out in a restaurant last night it was explained to me that it was my bodies reaction to the slight recycling of air in the mask and perhaps the paper fibres in the mask. Some people like me just can't help coughing.

So whats the point of wearing one if it makes you cough all the time ? Surely it defeats the object ?

I will continue to pursue a policy of retail abstinence.

"Maybe you should travel to Asia... Where mask wearing has been a thing for about 2 decades for an number of health reasons.

"

Thankfully, the world has done unprecedented levels of research since last winter. We've moved on. We're wiser now.

Mask use involves minimal effort and investment of time, money and convenience. In light of what we now know, specifically in relation to covid-19 and masks, it's the reasonably response now to wear a mask in social environments, more so than those indicated by the authorities. There's some great sense in achieving herd immunity from widespread use of flu vaccines, by those who are able to. This supports those unable to have the flu vaccination, for health reasons etc. It also helps those with impaired immune systems, who may not achieve high levels of or lasting immunity. Masks may of course get to become more widespread during periods of prevention infections. The winter period has a recognised sequence of viral infections, including the common cold. Whether public masks have much ability to prevent other infections is still unknown, whilst research is somewhat absent. Wider behavioural changes, including more frequent hand washing, sanitiser use as well as social distancing, will almost certainly help everyone.

But even in my lifetime I can remember needing to have certain vaccination certificates to be able to travel to certain areas. A repeat of that will happen if and when a vaccination is found effective.

Will be interesting to see how many will have the vaccination to be able to go on their exotic holidays.

Im sorry but this is absolute crap. I know people that put a mask on and have anxiety attacks etc. Also my daughter would never be able to leave the house as she has nerve problems and is in constant pain when something touches her face. There's plenty of reasons people physically cant wear one. I wear one as much as i can but occasionally i struggle with my asthma. I can be fine to start with but after a little while its not easy.

There will be and there are already exceptions for people with underlying health issues..

Think it's worth bearing in mind that some of those railing and ranting about what they perceive it as controls and compliance etc often are pushing an agenda..

"What other freedoms are you looking forward to giving up?"

Alcohol. Literally pissing folk off that they stop going to pub, as you cant get in because 25 people are filling a wetherspoons the size of wembley, then when pubs shut down, ramp the cost of supermarket booze up so folks dont drink at home either. Then alcohol related illness will reduce and those at the top can say well done with a case of champers
