There are laid down procedures for such requests, military aid to civil communities etc..

Even with such things like the poll tax riots no home secretary wants to have to ask the PM to instruct the defence secretary to roll the troops out..

I don’t think they would introduce martial law- they would be inviting civil war and the destruction of the monarchy. The queen has spent decades keeping the peace. There’s no way she would authorise the army going against her own people.

its not unthinkable though that were there are local lockdowns there could be local riots ... its been a long year so far or people feeing copped up, many will lose jobs as we go into winter and furlough ends , boredom and frustration breeds this kind of behaviour

nothing wrong with them having training”just in case”

"Wonder if the army will support the police

There are laid down procedures for such requests, military aid to civil communities etc..

Even with such things like the poll tax riots no home secretary wants to have to ask the PM to instruct the defence secretary to roll the troops out..

Looks bad..

Even margaret Thatcher didn't use it against the miners, although she did consider it. Churchill did send the army against the welsh miners in the 1910s.

But Churchill was more of a knob than Boris. I see it as another example of tabloids looking for headlines out of nothing.

Riot training is standard practice....nothing to see here unless you are a consliracy theorist of course.

Yeah I cant see us being on the edge of urban meltdown tbh.

There’s a simmering rage ... people are angry. Let’s see what happens

Most of the simmering rage is created by social media.. the average/normal person is not simmering..

Not seeing much simmering here either. Just people getting on with their lives as best they can.not much simmering here either... Frustration but no simmering

Well that’s the great thing about social media- people can organise themselves ...in the old days as well, to be fair, considering all the resistance that has risen up over the course of history.

In which case they could ask for NATOs help?

If there's another lockdown, people will ignore it. There is no excuse for not wearing a mask in a shop and before the medical conditions crowd jump on me, how else to you get through to the thicko's who won't wear for non medical reasons. I would gladly be deputised to prevent the 'human rights' bullshit brigade entering shops. If a woman can walk about in high heels, not comfortable I'm sure, what's the big deal about wearing a mask.

My ex encountered a woman who refused to wear a mask in a Spar. Stating she didn't care and didn't know anyone vulnerable. My ex took off her baseball cap to reveal a bald head through chemo, telling her she was standing beside a vulnerable person now. It was a tongue in cheek suggestion but seeing what people write on here, against wearing masks, I wouldn't be surprised if the military where tasked.

Because the black lives matter rioting that I witnessed simply cost millions of pounds in damage to business and personal properties and ultimately turned many away from the actual point. Have you not noticed it's not media worthy any more. The Media stirred it up , the dates fell for it, everyone paid for it and now the media don't bother there arse with it. Onwards and upwards for the next excuse to riot.

Yep rioting is a great solution to today's issues.

Why is it a military issue to police covid, the just stupidity. Who polices council car parks, council employed traffic wardens, you hae council employed liter wardens too, councils just need to hire a team of covid wardens to issue fines of rule breakers. Certainly not military personnel.

I agree with zest for life that rioting is not the answer - people will always lose sympathy once looting and mindless destruction occurs. Mass protest and civil disobedience on the other hand... Probably going to have more effect than signing names on a clipboard.

Out of interest- how does rioting play into Johnson’s hands, would you say?

But I’m not talking about looting. I think it’s disgusting behaviour and only serves to undermine whichever causes people are protesting/rioting about in the first place.

Probably for when people say no to a mandated vaccine. (I know i know some people dont think it will ever be mandated and i hope you are correct, we shall see).

So its either riot training for that or its riot training for when it all comes out (possibly next year when the gislene maxwell case goes to court) that very powerful people from goverments, bankers, A listed celebs and even royalty are all implicated in the trafficking, torturing, abusing and even murder of thousands of kids.... so yeah if that happpens i would expect a lot of rioting but not against each other or local buisnesses but towards the ones at the very top.

I recall last year, an Army unit was exercising using empty industrial units in Swindon.... that’s all it was an exercise! The local press got hold of it and spun it into a story that they were there preparing for civil unrest ahead of Brexit!!

Media .... don’t ya just love em!!!"

Surely that's what they were doing,?

I'm all in favor of peaceful protest but,if there was mass, violent unrest on top of all the other stuff we're all having to deal with, and the armed forces were called upon to help keep order, you wouldn't hear much complaint from me.

We all have enough to worry about at the moment without gangs of thugs terrorizing people, wrecking stuff and looting.

Do that,, risk getting your head cracked by a soldier....seems ok to me.

Was in the military at the time of the miners strike and there were rumours that some of the boys from Hereford were doing intelligence gathering, not sure it was anything but bar talk.."

It was true.

"Well why are they training for it?

Probably for when people say no to a mandated vaccine. (I know i know some people dont think it will ever be mandated and i hope you are correct, we shall see).

So its either riot training for that or its riot training for when it all comes out (possibly next year when the gislene maxwell case goes to court) that very powerful people from goverments, bankers, A listed celebs and even royalty are all implicated in the trafficking, torturing, abusing and even murder of thousands of kids.... so yeah if that happpens i would expect a lot of rioting but not against each other or local buisnesses but towards the ones at the very top.

They using anti lizard guns?

And by that i assume you are saying its all nonsense and a conspiracy right that hundreds of thousands of kids are trafficked each year and by powerful people?

Well thats fine you believe what you want to believe.

Its all going to come out sooner or later."

Before you all go off the deep end....

Thanks to a whole bunch of silly fuckers, Brexit is coming.

The key pinch point is the six counties of north east Ireland.

There is something of a history in thsoe parts of civil disorder. Quite how things will be managed once the government has managed to screw up the local economy and impose a border in the Irish Sea that it promised it wouldn't imppose is anyone's guess, but both sides in the Six Counties have form for taking their people out on the streets if they don't like the way things are going..

If I were the General Staff right now I'd be asking my team to prepare for a reunion tour of the Six Counties, but preferably without the shoot to kill policy or the Paras slaughtering anyone they don't like the look of....

"Hopefully they're used as doormen in shops to stop all the selfish twats without masks getting in!

Because deploying the military against people for not wearing masks sounds like a completely sensible thing to do.

I'm all for people wearing masks but this is ridiculous.

To quote Benjamin Franklin:

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety , deserve neither Liberty nor Safety".

Stay at home if you're terrified. No amount of "my ex" sob stories will change my view. Our nearest and dearest is either front line covid ward or actively shielding so every day is worrying for us.

But even so, we still don't feel the need to sick the military on people, least of all human rights supporters.

Deputized against the 'human rights' bullshit brigade my bum. I'm more worried about fascists like yourself than the clowns who wont wear a mask!

"

Have you read any of the 'human rights', I'd bet not. Every human right has the caveat, will not apply to spreading dangerous diseases. People like you who bleat about wearing masks, a first world problem! Try scurrying for food in the slums of Mumbai and then complain about it. You'll be looking for a mask then to keep the stench at bay. I'm glad you weren't about during the world wars. I'm sorry major, I can't advance on the enemy until I get my toenails cut as its sore to walk!

Maybe that is why they're undergoing riot training but from here the idea is improbable and fanciful. The only party that would like to see the military return to the North are the DUP and they're irrelevant in UK politics. The internal customs border is pretty much a done deal. Yes, its going to be chaos and damaging to the local economy but the Torys won't lose sleep over that.

On another note, I do wish to congratulate folks on modelling the latest in tinfoil fashions. Its all very imaginative.

It seems this all stems from people who won't wear a mask.

1. Wear a mask=if you have covid and don't know it, it helps limit the spread of disease, Fact! Ask any surgeon or nurse.

2.Dont wear a mask for any reason other than a proven condition = downright bloody selfishness, stupid and not someone I'd want to be around. Do the swingers on here who won't wear masks, wear condoms?

"Better that they are trained to handle riot situations than not trained surely??"

True, kinda a double edged sword. Worrying that they are preparing to suppress protest.

But on the other hand, look at Trump’s storm troopers he sent into Portland. Completely untrained, scared little boys given automatic weapons and conditioned to fear darker skin tones. No concept of de-escalation. Terrifying.

It is part of there normal training and with less over sea's mask more sense to train for some thing you might be called on to do.

And you are now not allowed to use the prone position when restraining so it's good they are getting up to date.

I have seen a number of people not wearing masks, and I do ‘judge’ that they are most likely irresponsible.

I fully understand that some have severe respiratory issues that would possibly make this difficult ... but surely if they are that severe, they are are at inherently greater risk of COVID ... aren’t these exactly the people who should be either staying at home - or wearing a mask if they do have to go out!

Without being descriptive, The people I have seen in the shops who seem ‘exempt’ look to me more the kind that just can’t be bothered, or don’t give a toss!!

Why would that worry anyone?

This country has lost the plot. The police can't cope. It's time to restore some law and order. It's a simple equation really - just behave yourself, don't break the law, don't damage property, disperse when told to. Go home quietly when told to. No-one gets hurt.

Or is it ok to misbehave, do as you like, damage property, assault police ?

I'll back any authority decision to hit these idiots as hard as possible to restore some order and send a very strong message that unlawfulness will not be tolerated.

Sadly, it won't happen and nothing will change and we'll all be worse off for it.

Lies. That so called boy was actually 26. BBC later corrected their sensationalised report.

If there was a genuine asylum claim, they can lodge it with the UK from the safety of France or any of the other countries travelled through as we have joint agreements. No need for the boat journey lining the pockets of career criminals. Perhaps that 26 year old didn't have a legitimate claim.

The people on the cliffs I'm pretty sure never forced them to cross, nor are they in a position to jump off said cliffs and go save anyone. Comments like this I think, cool let's just open the chunnel to pedestrians and let freedom of movement apply. Coming to a street near you. The reason we survived 2 world wars is because we were an island. Why point a finger at the uk when it's across the water that's allowing it to happen. I'm glad we have Brexit because being in Europe much longer would have destroyed all that our ancestors fought and died for.

If anyone feels so strongly about it, go use all your savings and become a missionary and do your bit, at least it will be your choice not something forced on the rest of us. No tin hat here, borders and border controls are there for a reason.

Not read all the posts, having been in the Army many years ago, and for many years, we did riot training and never deployed to the streets of England, yes Northern Ireland, but that was for different reasons.

The troops will not be sent to the streets on the UK for several reasons, main reason is it shows a break down in the system, which will be used against the current Government for years to come, and will cost them an election. Politicians are sensitive people, and not like looking bad
