In my happy place

So I am in the North East. Luckily not in Newcastle.

But if Boris gas his way, we will all be in an open prison sometime next week.

But hey, as long as London stays open...

I despair...

It’s already happening - University halls around the country are prisons that students are paying to be in. Come to uni they said, bring us your money, it will be okay

You're not comparing eggs with eggs.

Look at the number of cases per 100,000 in each city.

That explains why the strategy of each city is different.

atlantisEVOLUTION Swingers Club. Stoke.

Newcastle had 1453. Cases last week, That's 484 cases per 100,000.

Liverpool had 2747 Cases last week, that's 555.2 cases per 100,000.

Any Area in London has an average of 250 Cases last week and around 60 (avg) per 100,000.

That is a huge difference between Northern and London.

I’m in Newcastle and it’s easy to see the difference in the current infection rates between the North East and London. Would you complain if it was the other way around?

Walsall

I agree, it seems a lot of blame being but in the North, so London can remain open. The way its being handled is a disgrace.

I'm sure John Snow would not be happy

People in the north overwhelmingly voted for him in the last election. And yet knew he would treat them with utter contempt at every opportunity.

What can you do!

In my happy place

My point is im.in the region, but not in the Newcastle area.

Hope it is targetted and not blanket restrictions.

Ive not broken any rules or flouted social distancing. I've been to the city once since March.

Durham, North Yorkshire and can travel

We totally understand your point of view OP.

We are in a low population area with very low number of cases, yet lumped in with Co Durham. We are miles and miles away from a big town let alone a big city.

I agree, universities should have started courses online. In Newcastle 55,000 arrived in a week. These students have gone wild away from home which hasn't helped.

Every news prog here had interviews with people in pubs, all accents were not northern ones.

I'd hate to be in their position.

Stop spreading the virus? Follow the guidelines.? Reduce the infection rate?

On a mooch

For anyone following the rules / guidelines tough restrictions is going to hit hard.

As you are lumped in with Newcastle, I fully expect when London goes (and it will) it will be a city wide restrictions which is like covering a county, irrespective of where the rise in numbers is located within London.

Our numbers are slowly rising again but we are no where near the rates in the north as yet. Example Sunderland has a similar population to my borough, around 330,000, the difference in cases is very different:

Sunderland:-

293 / 100,000

815 new cases

4441 total cases

London borough:-

92 / 100,000

298 new cases

1845 total cases

The point is that the leaders of 7 local authorities actually requested the further measures that have been imposed upon the north east. The seven were, Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Gateshead and Co Durham. I assume that you live in one of those given your close proximity to Newcastle.
