Although mainstream media can get away with being selective with the truth, it is very difficult for them to get away with telling lies. Unlike the "fringe press" the mainstream press are subject to scrutiny.
You will notice how quickly individuals get pulled up on here or facebook for propagating fake news, well there are people waiting to catch the mainstream press doing it so they can sue them for millions... that is why it rarely happens.

It's one thing to question the statistics, but it's a completely different thing to just dismiss them as lies with zero evidence. I personally tend to look at the figures on Worldometer, as they have no affiliation to any country, government or political agenda... they just collect numbers.
And whilst it is true that statistics can be misrepresented, it is harder to "misrepresent" unprocessed figures such as "the number of new cases recorded today", this is just a count and can't be misrepresented any more than the number of fingers on my hand.

The government's own information states flu and colds - (cold is a corona virus) included in the daily figures. Deaths as well, if you die after 28 days after testing positive it will be counted as a covid death regardless. This has seen deaths of pneumonia and flu are at a all time low.
Please look up the WHO coding in icd-10.

Has mainstream news reported that (according to public health England) up to w/c21/10/2020 there has been four weeks where all deaths exceeded the national average this year.....four weeks... And this is a pandemic.

The new daily cases (as listed on worldometer) do not include flu and/or cold (nobody is testing for cold anyway) the new cases recorded daily are people who have had a "laboratory confirmed" positive corona-19 virus test.

Is it really surprising that deaths due to flu and pneumonia are at a low when for the first time in history we have measures in place to restrict transmission of respiratory illness  . Where does it say colds and flu are included in the daily figures? PCR Covid testing doesn’t return positive results to the presence of just any Coronavirus, it returns a positive result to the presence of the genetic markers specific to Covid 19. |

You will notice how quickly individuals get pulled up on here or facebook for propagating fake news, well there are people waiting to catch the mainstream press doing it so they can sue them for millions... that is why it rarely happens.

Trump's lot have really brought alternative facts to the playing field. The very phrase "alternative facts" was coined by Conway when defending Spicer's blatant lying.
They realised they couldn't win on facts, but they could maybe win by smearing and diminishing facts.
Given the number of times I've seen people on social media scream about the mainstream media, facts, science etc, Trump's lot seem to have been depressingly successful with their approach. |
