The site has a difficult line to tread, free speech and keeping people safe. Think back to trump's bleach gaff. It's reassuring someone is fact checking sone of the guff on here before it propagates.

Fact checking? Since when was the virus forum fact checked? This is a site that doesn't allow links to peer reviewed scientific journals, but does to any news website, however lacking in rigour. Daily Mirror = yes, International Journal of Respiratory Medicine = no.

If this forum was being fact checked, about 95% of threads would be deleted.

Presumably the Mike Yeadon one involved someone/some people becoming rude/abusive or whatever, that's the usual reason.

As a general rule, free speech means you can express an idea without *government* punishment for saying that thing.

It does not mean you can say anything in any venue. It doesn't mean that the site will host the content, that you won't be kicked out of someone's living room, that you won't be judged or face social consequences.

It just means that the government won't lock you up.

Freedom of speech/expression almost always carries exceptions, too.

I've actually just read the doctor that shall not be named and it's really interesting. The problem in hospitals at the moment is low staffing levels due to delays in testing, stress related absence all combined with the normal problems you'd expect in a flu season. If we took the current staff absences and transferred that to any winter season we'd have a similar or worse mortality rate to this pandemic.

Exactly, and site owners still have a duty of care to their users to remove content which may be deemed offensive and/or cause distress, hence why we have options to block, report and request the removal of threads.

OP I don't know what happened in the thread you're referring to but for all you know someone could have taken great offence at the contents and reported it, leading to its removal. Just speculating.

Threads we remove

Threads containing racism, threats, nasty stuff like that will be removed and the posters banned or given timeouts. We also don't want discussions of serious illegal subjects like r**e, child abuse, illegal drugs because inevitably someone will post about their own crimes / experiences of crimes and we can get hauled up in court to provide evidence. We do this for fun and we don't want the hassle, sorry.
