Amid reports Britons could be allowed "three or five" days to socialise with a number of other households in groups larger than six, Met Police commissioner Dame Cressida Dick has said she does not want officers knocking on doors to catch people breaking the rules on Christmas Day.
Speaking during an LBC radio phone-in this morning, Dame Cressida said the force will "work with whatever the government say are the current restrictions".
But when asked whether her officers would "bang on the door and count the number of people eating the turkey" during the festive period, she said police do not have the authority to enter people's homes to enforce coronavirus legislation.
"We have no powers of entry," she said.
"I have no intention in any way of encouraging my people to be barging through people's doors or knocking on people's doors unless you've got, as we sometimes do - and then they can't barge, they may knock - a huge party going on, which is clearly very, very dangerous and causing lots of concern with the neighbours.
"Well then we might be knocking on the door saying, 'you need to stop this'." |

In a democratic society any rule is only enforceable when the vast majority of the population are willing to comply with it. We can choose to be adults and behave responsibly or we can choose to be childish pricks. |

Yes they have done in most cases anyway,they will no doubt intervene people having big parties.
I the main they will rely on peopleusing common sense and not wanting to risk killing there elder grand parents.
Maybe if it can be proved that somebody passed the virus on by breaking the rules and that person died a manslaughter charge! |

The majority of people will realise that they need have a level of moderation over Christmas BUT there will also be the fools who (police interviews or not) will have already planned multiple large group parties.
These should result in police intervention.
The bottom line is too much stupidly over Christmas the longer the lockdown will be overJanuary.
It's common sense, however as already proven this year there are some people who lack it.

So even if they died with covid up to 28 days later by some other unfortunate accident, as are counted as covid deaths. Bit harsh if you ask me  |

Denmark just tried to pass through an 'epidemic law' which basically removed the right to resist being vaccinated amongst other things.
The people said no way Hosay. Took 9 days of country wide demonstrations. |

Unlikely. The police are not out to embarrass the Prime Minister and he can't resist "saving Christmas" by dropping restrictions - which is inevitably going to lead to even worse, longer, less effective measures after Christmas, all because we and the PM can't behave like adults.
But given that someone was once convicted of assault when he gave his wife VD, not impossible.

I’m still trying to figure out where good old Corony is going for Christmas while families meet ups. Puzzles me how it will be safe for those 5 days but not for the rest.
‘I know you’ve shielded for the last 9 months but it will be safe to meet up for Xmas because Corony’s visiting its folks too.’  |

The police already ignore burglaries because they are too busy. They can concentrate on harassing supporters of Julian Assange receiving justice , which given history and lack of media coverage of his disproportionate incaceration will be v unlikely. |

It's not so much about being safe as managing a risk that the government know a significant majority of the population will be taking anyway |

There's going to be idiots pushing it and they're the ones who'll spoil it going forward for everyone and put us back in lockdown throughout January
My son recently stayed in London before this lockdown at his girlfriends and he said there was a party in the lower flat with at least 50-70 people inside.
Police turned up, went in and broke the party up in the earlier hours he said they couldn't believe how many people came out the flat
This will probably be happening all over the UK at Xmas and I've already seen a post on here today from someone looking for new year party invites |

Even with a warrant they cant gain entry, especially if the warrant is not insured.
Apparently public servants are of the opinion they can write some law that authorises them to trespass on PRIVATE property, |
