So it looks like the new strain is more contagious so it that’s the case abs it’s going to be bad then get on with it stop debating and lock us down again! It’s obvious they are going to do that after Christmas anyway!

I doubt there is yet any evidence that the new strain is any more infectious. New strain identified plus rise in cases does not necessarily mean its more contagious. People behaviours are usually the reason for spikes in viral transmission

Galaxy Far Far Away

It can only be contagious if people go near each other or dont wash their hands.

I'm not sure that there is published evidence of it yet. There have been several posts about it here for days, including 2 tonight. Media reports are akib to fab posts

Time to close the airports and ferry ports and stop people wanting to go on holiday

The way the mRNA vaccines work is mind-blowing and quite the scientific achievement!

The mRNA vaccine should work well vs most mutations of the virus as it targets one specific protein which assists virus uptake.

If this specific protein happens to be mutated then the virus uptake will be diminished anyway, so is quite a good prevention, just hope i manage to get the vaccine before the Astra Zeneca one is released as I'm quite amazed by the mRNA one

My professional opinion as a pharmacist anyway

Out of interest, seeing as you are a pharmacist, how has the flu jab been concocted this year ? As i understand it is a mix of the most common strains expected for the coming months .

How has covid influenced the process , or more to the point, have they been as acurate this year due to the exceptional circumstances?

To be honest it will not make the slightest difference what they do now because people will just disregard it and just meet up anyway.

True the majority will but the important minority will keep on meeting and spreading

Correct! I believe it contains 4 different strains, all inactive, and therefore takes around 2-3 weeks to take effect so patients can still develop the flu in that time period...

In regards to the second part I would say it's just as accurate as the vaccine isn't developed last minute anyway however I don't specialise in the development of drugs and more so the effects of drugs and appropriateness, i wouldn't want to provide an answer beyond my competence, I could do some research when i get free time however with how busy work is at the moment my free time is for relaxing and 'destressing' aha

Thanks for your answer. Please don't research for my benifit though.

I am always thinking about the effects or side effects of things in general. Covid is a classic case study for me ..

Don’t worry we have enough selfish gits in the U.K. to keep it going
