Just watched the latest video of Boris warning that a 3rd wave is on its way.
Couldn't help but think, it was a thinly veiled threat, that lockdown, will be extended, rather than relaxed.
Boris, what are you playing at ?
What is your agenda ?

After a year of being told the same thing, people are only now starting to think the same way.
We've all made sacrifices and lost so much under the promises of better times ahead, however everytime we allegedly turn a corner, Boris throws yet another curve ball at as all. These messages from Whitehall are becoming repetitive and also undermine every theory or game plan they come up with.
Only so many times they can play the " new variant" card, and unfortunately it's now worn thin. |

Boris has brought much of this on himself. Not with the bad news which is merely passing on the medical/"expert" advice, but with the false promises of early Dawn's. Everyone with half a brain knew that fully opening schools with thousands of super spreaders in class and milling around outside schools along with groups of parents ignoring any social distancing would lead to further crises in infections. |

I believe it was more like an alert message as other countries have it so being prepared as it's not over so wouldn't be safe to open up and put more pressure on the NHS and lose more lives people's loved ones the vaccine might provide little protection but this might not be enough for someone who might have other illnesses resulting in death before receiving further treatment as time I'm sure would be limited at this stage it's not worth taking the risk... |

You read the agenda wrongly, Boris has video meetings with European leaders today about not allowing us our due AZ vaccines to be delivered and about the lack of vaccines given in Europe. They and the anti vaccine people in this country will stop us getting back to some sort of normal !!!

What a complete load of rubbish. There's so many conspiracy agendas out there. The UK is benefitting now from an extended lockdown and superb vaccine rollout. Europe is suffering and anticipates a third wave. The update was mindful of sustaining our work and not jumping too soon, specifically with regards to our borders and encouraging mutant or new strains to enter, when we are nearing the light at the end of the tunnel here in the UK.
The Covid idiots and mass gathering protesters are the only one's that are likely to restrict anyone's future freedoms.
It's so pathetic and selfish to demand the right to protest in the current climate. Don't they understand that the majority would love the right to see their families and friends and retain their jobs and socialise, which is far more important and fundamental to normal society and wellbeing than a proxy right to demonstrate!!

I can't believe I've actually been called upon to defend that manape Johnson.
However there is no agenda. He is playing at nothing. We may be in this God-awful position because of the slow and incompetent reactions to scientific recomendation plopped on his desk during 2020.
However the 2021 response has been pretty decent. Of course there are things to moan about but on the whole we are doing now what needed to be done last year.
As such, provided we stay disciplined we are on our way to beating this.
Unfortunately I no longer have faith in a large enough proportion of the British public remaining disciplined once the warm weather hits. Luckily the vaccination programme is doing rather well. Not perfect. But well done Scientists and NHS admin staff and of course the medics and volunteers proving that service. Johnson owes you his gratitude, as well as a real terms payrise. |

it will impact us, it could be that we get to a point where we can all go out and about here but no foreign holidays , it could be vaccine deliveries are delayed, it could be god forbid a new vaccine resistant variant comes in and we go back to square one (lets hope not)
we don’t know what the impact might be yet big or small but no point kidding ourselves in that we wont be impacted at all
surely the fact we ate talking about it early, presumably making plans and keeping people aware shows we have at least learned some lessons from our slow to take action approach of last year
Sone people really just want any old stick to beat the government with and don’t care if it makes sense or not
oh and while i think its important that we still have our right to protest , rent a mob at the weekend might be partially where we want to look if we do get a new spike  |

Agree he is trying to say that the 3rd wave from Europe will likely impact us.... shows he has little trust in our quarantine measures.
In reality, it’s the opening of the economy which is going to lead to a surge in cases , we just done know if we have vaccinated enough people yet to slow it down- but Boris is laying the ground work for a fall guy which might become the narrative in the months to come . |

The update was mindful of sustaining our work and not jumping too soon, specifically with regards to our borders and encouraging mutant or new strains to enter, when we are nearing the light at the end of the tunnel here in the UK.
The Covid idiots and mass gathering protesters are the only one's that are likely to restrict anyone's future freedoms.

He lies. He's a poor leader and known to me untrustworthy. He also has form for not taking responsibility. This is potentially another facet of him passing the buck. After an expensive refurb of his Downing St flat, he's not wanting to move on in a hurry, now he's got all of the credit for the NHS vaccination success.
A week today it looks like it will be a major leap forwards, just before Easter. Despite it being still illegal, expect that huge numbers of people will gather at Easter, with Good Friday being a week this coming Friday. Delayed Christmas festivities  |

Boris Johnson has warned the effects of a third wave of coronavirus will "wash up on our shores" from Europe.
The PM said the UK should be "under no illusion" we will "feel effects" of growing cases on the continent.

Trips abroad may be off the cards other minor impacts but with over 50s (50% adult population) vaccinated and hopefully most of the vulnerable people, compared to the EU. As long as the hospital admissions and death rates don't rise much there will be no need to go back into lockdown, whatever happens in Europe.
Another report has come out of Cambridge uni saying that Boris delaying going into lockdown last year later may have inadvertently saved more lives.

Think people have had enough of governments empty promises
Protect the elderly protect the vulnerable nurses and carers to be protected over 50s to be taken care for as higher risk of complications if virus is caught
Most of these have been achieved by the vaccinations
Relieve the NHS strain vaccinations have also helped this
Achieve herd immunity well this can't happen until all vaccinated people are allowed to roam free
Think the government enjoys the control it now has and doesn't want to let go we will all be ordered to have a tattoo next to prove we are vaccinated wonder where these ideas come from |

This was just a report by a professor at Cambridge University I read on one of the science news feeds, made interesting reading. I'm not going to try and explain as I'd probably get it wrong anyway. Am i missing something here..a third wave coming.. how can you ask "what's Boris playing at", or "what's his agenda".. He alone can't stop the British public from being dicks. This is something only the British public can do. A third wave, coming from continental Europe.again how can this be placed firmly at his front door..we are doing Ok with vaccinations, the EU are not.. The UK getting its Covid house in order. |

Future lockdowns nailed on.
Yesterday the “experts” we were saying facemasks and social distancing will be needed for several years and that we should forget our foreign holidays due to the risk of new variant strains.
Today Bojo is basically saying get ready for potential future lockdowns folks.
This crock of shit is going nowhere fast.
The kids returning to school last week will no doubt ensure we have regional tier rules again if Chris Whitt and Sir Pat have their way. We might get a few weeks of summer if we are lucky, but no doubt once the kids and students converge on educational establishments again in September, we’ve got another long autumn and winter ahead.
Can’t help being a glass 3/4 empty at the moment with this shower of shite.

The simple truth is that what ever the government mistakes we UK are in a much stronger position now to ride another wave of covid than the rest of Europe. Let's hope because of the work 'yes the work' the government and the NHS have done with the vaccination programme we may only have to suffer a few more minor changes and we get thought this with small numbers casualties.

How can you blame the prime minister when rules are set out to curb the spread,yet far too many break the rules,because they think rules don't apply to them?
Nobody blames him for the virus, more of his handling of the virus. He chose to act on one groups opinions but closed out other experts. He also chose to ignore expert opinions and act too late on many occasions. His own cabinet got busted breaking the same rules they set, yet he still took advice from them.
If he was the CEO of any company, the board and investors would've sacked him based on his decisions.
Then every leader in every country needs sacked,because this virus isn't tied to the UK
The rest of the countries can do what they like, I'm more concerned about how our leader has failed his country.

He acted quickly on getting the virus, that is his only saving grace.

So what do you call it when you employ an expert, ask for their advice, then promptly ignore it ? That's not hindsight it's negligence.
If you went to a mechanic and they warned you about an urgent problem would you be responsible for the damage caused by not taking their advice, or simply call it hindsight ?
The irony is that he did ask the advice if his advisors and they were the ones that suggested it wasn't such a big deal and suggested hard immunity etc. Which advice he took and where did that get him. Sorry to take wind out of your sails, goes against your narrative.

That was Xmas lockdown, it is a year to the day we went into first lockdown late based on the advice of his experts at the time. So as I said he did take advice, bad advice.

Its a virus.. its constantly mutating and changing .. there's likely a 3rd wave..4th and 5th..etc.. till it gets weaker .
It will be inline in next Yr or 2 with flu vaccine roll out. |

I'm guessing that we'll not know the full details of the situation a year ago until there's a public inquiry. Details last year showed how things rapidly escalated, as people travelled and transported the infection, European nations got overwhelmed and we weren't too far in delay from them. The early research suggested our hospitals getting overwhelmed and rapid exponential growth in infections - it doesn't seem too much like the evidence at the time pointed to delays being very prudent. The herd immunity concept may have been a Cummings idea but never had much credibility.
Back to the present. We're going to have to have manageable levels of the problem this year. The increasing vaccinated population levels stop most of the NHS difficulties. Presumably by late summer any adults who want to be vaccinated will have had it.
Whether we need and have modified vaccines to prevent problem variants is another issue - winter vaccines like flu roll-out from October. Will we be able to get sufficient vaccine supplies in time? It would only be an issue if variants aren't adequately prevented by immunity that people already have.
Our pressing inbound infections should diminish with the increasing vaccination levels of European countries. Especially if all foreign visitors still have to demonstrate negative tests and some countries remain blocked. The weak point for our continued reduction of our risks are people here who refuse to vaccinate |

What a complete load of rubbish. There's so many conspiracy agendas out there. The UK is benefitting now from an extended lockdown and superb vaccine rollout. Europe is suffering and anticipates a third wave. The update was mindful of sustaining our work and not jumping too soon, specifically with regards to our borders and encouraging mutant or new strains to enter, when we are nearing the light at the end of the tunnel here in the UK.
The Covid idiots and mass gathering protesters are the only one's that are likely to restrict anyone's future freedoms.
It's so pathetic and selfish to demand the right to protest in the current climate. Don't they understand that the majority would love the right to see their families and friends and retain their jobs and socialise, which is far more important and fundamental to normal society and wellbeing than a proxy right to demonstrate!!

However there is no agenda. He is playing at nothing. We may be in this God-awful position because of the slow and incompetent reactions to scientific recomendation plopped on his desk during 2020.
However the 2021 response has been pretty decent. Of course there are things to moan about but on the whole we are doing now what needed to be done last year.
As such, provided we stay disciplined we are on our way to beating this.
Unfortunately I no longer have faith in a large enough proportion of the British public remaining disciplined once the warm weather hits. Luckily the vaccination programme is doing rather well. Not perfect. But well done Scientists and NHS admin staff and of course the medics and volunteers proving that service. Johnson owes you his gratitude, as well as a real terms payrise."
Massively agree with all this. I think some people need to put down the papers. Turn off the TV. And actually look at the official statistics. Infections have plateaued at about 5,000 a day (higher than I'd like but can't have everything) Only 6,000 people UK wide in hospital with this (down 5,000 in a week) and only 860 on Ventilation (down 240 in a week)
If anything this prempts the announcement that we will be allowed no foreign travel this year to Europe. Which I think is a very wise move all things considered. |

Individuals should read the covax agreement which we are part of as a self funding country. So the above wouldn’t surprise me or if it was to be diverted to other countries.
A brief snapshot on allocation of vaccines:-
Even though self-financing participants can request for enough doses to vaccinate between 10-50% of their population, no country will receive enough doses to vaccinate more than 20% of its population until all countries in the financing group have been offered this amount. The people protesting are stupid ...setting light to a police van with police in it yes everyone is fed up of this pandemic...but people have lost family members to it . Agree, the fact that all our neighbours are having considerable infection issues, low vaccine rates.. Isn't the fault of either Boris, the scientists or the school kids who seem to have been a soft target all the way through. We are still in a "lock down" yet the motorway this morning and traffic was back to normal levels. The shops are ranked full. The footpaths are full of walkers in groups of more than 2....but still blame Boris and the schoolkids (which is a great name for a band).
Before people start blaming others, have a look in the mirror.
As for us... Daily infections of over 5k...general mood is OK, let's get to the pub and fuck parties. In Germany infections 7k...general mood... Fuck that's bad... Let's lockdown for 3 weeks around Easter weekend. |

Why do we need to secretly rebuild stocks? ...and what is the point of having stocks of a vaccine, where it does no good to man not beast.
We have a contract with companies to supply vaccine, there is nothing secretive about it.
A vaccine only works when it's in someone's arm so I'm sure we won't keeping stocks anywhere for now.
It's in our interests to help France and near neighbours to improve their vaccine delivery as it will mitigate the 3rd and 4th waves which will come next winter. |

The government didn’t do any work on the vaccine and it’s progress Stu.
Boris Johnson had to ask Kate Bingham to temporarily leave her role in SV Health Investors because Hancock doesn’t have a clue .
She liaised with NHS Trusts to make sure the roll out went smoothly and correctly.
Any problems she discovered along the way she has immediate access to the PM bypassing Hancock but he still keeps his job living off the back of Kate Bingham and NHS Trusts success mate |

Experts now saying the common cold virus competes with covid and is stronger, thus killing it and removing from cells. Oh can't use it everyone in masks stopping you catching the cold, lets hope the kids catch it at school. |

What a complete load of rubbish. There's so many conspiracy agendas out there. The UK is benefitting now from an extended lockdown and superb vaccine rollout. Europe is suffering and anticipates a third wave. The update was mindful of sustaining our work and not jumping too soon, specifically with regards to our borders and encouraging mutant or new strains to enter, when we are nearing the light at the end of the tunnel here in the UK.
The Covid idiots and mass gathering protesters are the only one's that are likely to restrict anyone's future freedoms.
It's so pathetic and selfish to demand the right to protest in the current climate. Don't they understand that the majority would love the right to see their families and friends and retain their jobs and socialise, which is far more important and fundamental to normal society and wellbeing than a proxy right to demonstrate!!

However there is no agenda. He is playing at nothing. We may be in this God-awful position because of the slow and incompetent reactions to scientific recomendation plopped on his desk during 2020.
However the 2021 response has been pretty decent. Of course there are things to moan about but on the whole we are doing now what needed to be done last year.
As such, provided we stay disciplined we are on our way to beating this.
Unfortunately I no longer have faith in a large enough proportion of the British public remaining disciplined once the warm weather hits. Luckily the vaccination programme is doing rather well. Not perfect. But well done Scientists and NHS admin staff and of course the medics and volunteers proving that service. Johnson owes you his gratitude, as well as a real terms payrise.
Massively agree with all this. I think some people need to put down the papers. Turn off the TV. And actually look at the official statistics. Infections have plateaued at about 5,000 a day (higher than I'd like but can't have everything) Only 6,000 people UK wide in hospital with this (down 5,000 in a week) and only 860 on Ventilation (down 240 in a week)
If anything this prempts the announcement that we will be allowed no foreign travel this year to Europe. Which I think is a very wise move all things considered.

if we are allowed to go on holiday i will be on one of the first planes available and totally looking forward to it - i would also follow all the requirements of testing / quarantine etc whatever they have in place at the time
if they tell us its not safe to go and ban it i will be gutted but accept it

if they tell us we can’t travel, but then put us back into another lockdown while blaming Europe for a 3rd wave because our current border controls for “essential travel” are not sufficient then yeah I probably will moan about that, because its either deemed safe to travel or it’s not and if it’s not then our border controls should be appropriate to ensure what is happening in Europe doesn’t cause spikes here (I know we might still get other impacts like delayed trade etc which is fair enough and can’t be helped) |

Not all of the 4 targets groups have had their 2nd jab yet and remember its not 100% effective, he is taking us out of this at the right speed, we just need to wait a little longer |

To be honest, when will I be glad?
Obviouly when the rest of the country are vaccinated
When we're able to safely come out of lockdowns
But I think most of all, when the doom mongers and conspiracy theorists finally get the message that Covid, like the flu is a virus and like the flu will continue to mutate. And like the flu each year a 'tweaked' booster jab will be available. So when they finally get that message perhaps the doom & gloom posts will reduce. |

Ah, has the penny dropped? Vaccines will get better but will never stop absolutely everything. We know from living with influenza it doesn’t go away, we have just learnt how to limit it’s impact. The same will happen with every mutation of Covid-19 and every other corona virus that is identified.
My _iew - be prepared for a semi annual jab until the vaccine gets so good that we can rely on an annual vaccine like the older people already do for the flu.

I can understand why some are cynical, I can understand especially those anti government and especially anti tory feeling the need to be cynical.
I may be proved wrong but I'm yet to understand why any government, or indeed any individual would like us to keep spreading a virus, keep us in lockdown, keep the economy teetering, keep the population miserable. It makes no sense to me. I can see no motivation for extending this any longer than absolutely necessary. Surely "they" whoever they are... Make more money by getting everyone out and spending money again? |

Take it your usual trips have been difficult or non existent.
We lost 2 holidays to Cap D'Agde last year but hoping for Gran Canaria in September.
Took the chance of booking the flights.
