"Tens of thousands of German tourists reportedly arrived in the Balearic Islands at the weekend, in a welcome boost for local businesses."

Just how is the German Government allowing this to happen?

Much less the Spanish for taking them.

Isn't the national prevalence in Germany fairly low, despite them extending restrictions?

We won't get any further details on travel until mid April and we should expect that countries will move in and out of easier, tougher or blocked restriction levels all year imo. This will probably still include testing and quarantine for many, potentially even if vaccinated, I'm guessing

Canaries tourist minister has twice contradicted the spanish presidents claim that there will be no tourists untill 70%of spain is vaccinated and has said british tourists will be welcome as soon as we a allowed by the government. It boils down to the fact that neither the canaries or ballieric islands could survive another 12 mths without tourists. Just hope air corridors are reinstated with no quarantine on return. Prob negative test before travel and before return . Or even better proof of vaccine. This can just be added to your check in details online. Aswell as passport number enter your nhs numbe

For plenty of Spanish (and other countries too) no tourism =no revenue= no money = no home

As we know from research being carried out that the vaccines do not stop you catching, carrying or circulating the virus surely the better of these options is the testing not a piece of paper saying that you have been vaccinated?

the research has shown that the vaccine does indeed help lower transmission and also reduce the risk of catching it... but mostly it stops the severity of the virus if you still manage to catch it.

.I won't be going on holiday while you have to add 2 to 3 tests to go as simply cant afford the extra £250 plus each person.

We have just rebooked all of ours for next year.

Yes its looking probable that some international travel may be allowed but most countries have some form of restrictions and the uncertainty and how quickly things can change we just wouldn't be able to relax so seems like a waste of money.

Also both the holidays we had booked changed the airport and one changed twice to there is just too much uncertainty.

Travel Ban and 5K fine.

If approved it would come into effect next Monday - 29 March.

Although the new laws won't expire until 30 June, Health Secretary Matt Hancock suggested foreign holidays could be allowed before that date.

There are a number of exemptions to the ban, which are travel for:

• Work

• Study

• Legal obligations or to vote

• Moving, selling or renting property

• Childcare reasons or to be present at a birth

• Visiting a dying relative or close friend

• Attending a funeral

• Getting married or attending the wedding of a close relative

• Medical appointments

• Escaping a risk of harm

The ban does not apply to those travelling to the common travel area of the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland - unless that is not the final destination.

What is the point of threatening people with a big fine when the prospect of having a non refundable flight and holiday booking is enough of a deterrent. Unless this country is now so skint that we are resorting to funding ourselves by fining anybody for anything?

The point is that at the moment there are loads of people going on holiday who claim it is an essential trip and very little that the law can do to stop it. Now it will be very clear and a very strong incentive not to break the law.

Actually the last bit is not quite true... a European country is allowed to close borders in cases of national emergency... so for example you can only get into Germany at the moment after a negative COVID test

It's not a strong incentive, it's a vindictive and petty punishment.

A strong incentive is the mandatory quarantine measures or the new forms required for travel. The prospect of being turned away from the airport without a refund for not having the correct paperwork is deterrent enough.

These new measures only serve to diminish the faith in government and scientists in the eyes of the general public.

As said in another thread . The fine is only in place untill june but if travel allowed on may 17th will not be in force. Stay at home rule being reduced to stay local but that wont stop some people travelling local to airports and trying to go away . So fine there as a deterent. To stop non essential travel .

Before we all start to panic lets see what the committee say on april 12th

well we both know that’s a ridiculous nonsensical suggestion, but would you rather we also had to start dishing out government money as compensation for deterioration and devaluation of assets we didn’t let people maintain?

they still need to fill out all the paperwork and follow any quarantine rules to reduce risk from the visit, we just haven’t banned them from flying out , the same way that we haven’t banned people going for business

Until such time as the population of an entire country is vaccinated, travel to and from that entity should be banned.

This highly transmissible virus is no respector of political boundaries, but will exploit any opportunity to infect another host.Simple biological fact.

The effects of a draconian ban is damaging to the pattern of economic and social activity that has emerged over the last 500 years, namely international trade and recent mass travel by plane, but until such time as this pandemic is brought under control, we have to curtail what we formerly considered to be normal life.

If we don't we're simply going to experience wave after wave of Covid-19 and its inevitable mutations.

For as long as it takes, 'normal' life has to be suspended!

That makes sense as under the stay at home order. Even when that is lifted on 29 March it is advised you stay local. However, come 18 April (if that date remains the same) you are allowed to stay overnight in self contained accommodation, so I can’t see them stopping others travelling for a day. There are plenty of places you can go and keep your distance.

Every incident resulting in a fine must represent massive free publicity for the police/system/government.

If they are smart, the police should concentrate on fining people who appear to be joined at the hip to a smartphone.

Until restrictions are lifted we have no idea where we can travel or indeed if that country will allow us in.

Everyone chooses to holiday differently, what they need to relax, some need sunshine, a pool, different culture, for others it’s just a simple somewhere different away from the normal.

If it’s allowed and individuals are fully aware that things could change whilst they are away (as it did last year), prepared for that possibility of having to quarantine and the extra costs involved with that, then that is their personal choice.

Each to their own, there is no right or wrong in this, just how each person feels about travelling and acts within the restrictions we have.

"They are trialling bubble holidays . Only people in same household can stay in the same room. There’s no borders in Europe so people can go where they like pretty much these days. "

"Tens of thousands of German tourists reportedly arrived in the Balearic Islands at the weekend, in a welcome boost for local businesses."

Just how is the German Government allowing this to happen?

Much less the Spanish for taking them.

"

^^^^^^^

I don't understand this... Where I live there's a 5km distance. I do know some people were travelling to a certain part of Spain, stating dental treatment and had evidence to prove it. What happened then was... The dental professionals in a certain part of Spain contacted the Irish Government stating... We have many Irish people making Dental appointments, but they don't show up... & the apparent Dental `patients` received Email confirmation that yes, they have Dental appointments in Spain. Hence they were allowed travel.
