"Im no expert in all this at all i rarely watch news or look at stats but i was wondering how come australian rugby grounds are full why do they seem to be doing so much better than most other countries?"

Because the citizens trust the government and the government was better at making a strategy and keeping to it.

They also aren't letting in 8k tourists a day and 20k hauliers a week with little testing or Control. Their rules are being enforced.

Citizens aren't queueing up to get in pubs opening at 8am.

They aren't a transport hub...

They've done a much better job and if we do as good a job we are supposed to be hosting euros football matches with crowds of 22k at least....then the world will be all right again... Football booze and haircuts...

Australian rugby clubs have great club facilities .... big luxurious bars and normally a games room with high winning slot machines.

The facilities cater for all the family ... and because local people use the clubs to socialise - they are also interested in the rugby team / games.

The governments in Australia and New Zealand - plus others - were far sighted and took action driven by evidence all the way through, in comparison with the pile of shite in England. We imported and started many different local hot spots last March, that seeded the virus around the country, because we didn't take our border control seriously. They did.

Once foreign travellers brought the virus in to so many different places, things really got out of control.

We were just negligent.

I believe they had a very strict regime and acted very quickly when you look at the way people arrive from different countries and boarder control are very strict what can and can't be allowed within seeds, fruit and so on very protective country to protect what they already have so they aren't invaded by other species of insects and so onnnn

"There also an island so it was really easy to regulate who came and left the country if only we were an island....."

We are an island attached to 2 other Countries so slightly different.

The land mass of Australia is huge and they were able to lock down states, we couldn't really shut down counties.

Someone mentioned New Zealand...more people fly into the UK in one week than New Zealand in a year, shuting down the airports like that wouldn't have been possible.

Our government have certainly done things wrong, but we should compare us to Italy, France, Spain etc.

Cornwall had alot less cases than Yorkshire, does that mean Cornwall dealt with it better?

I think various countries had their own challenges and problems in getting things sorted. It’s very easy to just compare any two countries but a lot are vastly different, Australia and UK are for sure. We may laud other leaders or berate our own, but it’s been huge lessons for absolutely most indeed. Some have had very similar behaviours but far less cases but we still glorify it as ‘they are doing it better’ etc. Even in countries where it’s far safer than here, I have seen, read and learned of bad processes or things going on that are terrible considering it’s a global pandemic. But it’s a constantly evolving picture too, unprecedented and once in a generation. Hard to master that level of issue.

Plenty more. That idiot Boris kept things running while things were already getting out of control, think of the Cheltenham festival and an Italian team and fans being allowed into Liverpool, he didn't get a grasp on foreign travel, he didn't get a grasp on believing this was a threat, in fact he didn't do anything right. So although you can say we are an international hub along with a densely populated country, we are at the end of the day an island and fuckwit Boris and his crew should shoulder the blame for the UKs dismal Covid record

If you actually look up the facts, we locked down virtually the same number of days after our first reported case as most countries.

Again who else should have been locked down ? Time after time people say we should have had a stricter lockdown but never actually say who should have been.

Ok. So why did Western Australia have zero cases during their winter?

Not days of zero cases. I think it was something like nine months

I think you have been living in your own bubble. Boris was slow on border control and slow on lockdowns. I said in my previous reply that while Covid was quite obviously beginning to run rampant in the UK he allowed the Cheltenham festival to take place in March 2020. He allowed an Italian team and their fans to congregate on Liverpool for a European Cup game (you would have thought he would have learned from the Italian example). Would these not be good examples of him installing a lockdown procedure for those huge events which attracted hundreds of thousands of people.

Peoplr were still flying off and driving off to Italy Switzerland and France for skiing holidays in Feb and March as well as flying back from the hotspots of Wuhan and Italy. Cheltenham festival, Liverpool v atletico and 6 nations matches taking place through March. 100s of 1000s of air passengers were landed in march and April and May and June. Along with 20k truck drivers a week from France.

So restricting any of those movements may have helped.

Summer in Australia begins in December and ends in March, so no. Also see my question above about how a state in Australia had zero cases in and beyond their entire winter.

It’s not just about the number of people who were locked down, it’s about how tightly they were locked down.

My friend in Aus and I were both in lockdown - her lockdown was stay at home except one hour a day when you can go outside and stay within a set distance from home. If she needed to shop for essentials then she had to go to her nearest shop. The only people going out to work were people absolutely essential workers.

Rather than here with the never ending list of key workers, woolly “if you can stay at home” messages and no restrictions on how many times a day/week people could go out or how far people could go. We were restricted, but we weren’t locked down in anything like the same way.

They had a very strict lockdown early on, a very tight boarder policy and an effective test, trace and (crucially) isolate policy. And cases emerge and appear to be spreading in the community they quickly move to local lockdown. The distance between cities helps this.

Partially agree.a lot is perception. I mean we were only allowed out once a day for 30 mins exercise in the first one. The issue for me was weak enforcement and eventually clumsy and confusing communication.

Newry Down

Australia is an isolated island, and with a very strictly enforced isolation (quarantine) regime; and their testing regime combined with rigorpus lockdown procedures whenever infection is detected has been very successful.

AustrLia's 'pairing' with New Zealand is appropriate because it mirrors the above criteria, and has been equally successful.

The UK and Ireland have had to contend with a different scenario, but there HSS been mismanagement in these jurisdictions.

Two major mistakes were: permitting the Cheltenham Racing Festival to go ahead unrestricted, and allowing the Italian rugby football supporters to travel unimpeded to Dublin.

The antipodean nations have managed this crisis meritoriously.
