Getting back to the original article, which suggests people *could* be charged for testing after July, we've seen this before haven't we, particularly with this specific administration.

Release a "currently being discussed" consideration to the press, let them run with the story, and gauge public opinion on the outcome. Then and only then make firm policy.

It's governing by populism and "likes".

It's infantile, damaging, and serves no one but the most inferior-complexity suffering of narcissists.

Then there is the whole consideration itself.

One moment we are told that the government are doing everything to save lives, keep the transmissions low, protect people and the next minute it's "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor".

Alright, that was an exaggeration. But the sentiment is the same, because unlocking society and then asking people to pay for testing will have consequences, and I'm sorry to say these will not be unintended consequences. Even an amoeba can work that out.

1. The poorest, most disadvantaged members of society will not be able to afford such testing. Especially those with larger families.

2. As a consequence, many in this group will not get tested.

3. This will increase transmission and disproportionally affect more people from this group.

4. This will lead to poorer health outcomes for this group.

Right at the beginning of the vaccination campaign, people raised concerns about vaccination apartheid.

This is at the other end of the scale.

Testing Apartheid.

It is a form of social engineering.

Some would even go so far as to say "cleansing" (I deliberately do not want to invoke Godwin's Law here), but I do have to look at this consideration and ask myself...

1. Does it help or hinder people ?

2. Does it marginalise a particular group of people ?

3. Is it inclusive or exclusive ?

4. Does it have a cost of entry that excludes some people ?

5. Is the policy equitable for all, or harmful to some ?

On face value, I think it's clear what the answers are.

Ergo, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and squawks like a duck, then it's clearly a duck or pretty damn close enough to treat it like one.

The only thing I would disagree with is if they even give a toss what the public think.

We have seen many times that they just double down on unpopular decisions (school meals )

"Getting back to the original article, which suggests people *could* be charged for testing after July, we've seen this before haven't we, particularly with this specific administration.

It does feel at the very least like a money-making exercise. That's being generous.

At the worst, a Machiavellian plan to harm the most vulnerable and poorest members of society.

I'm just not sure the current administration have the level of intelligence to formulate and engage in Machiavellian plans of that calibre.

As Machiavellian plans go, it's quite short-sighted.

1. Increasing the sickness and poor health of the most socio-economically deprived groups is cutting your nose off to spite your face. These are the people who work for very low wages, doing the menial tasks the Machiavellian Princes wouldn't do themselves.

2. As this group diminishes, the pool of available workers reduces, and the labour costs of those left rises.

3. Shuffling large number of this pool of people in to long-term sickness will raise the Welfare cost to the State and the tax-payer.

As Machiavellian plans go, it's a complete "own goal" and not been thought through.

I cannot in all fairness, credit the current government for having the intelligence to see all these pitfalls.

Then again highly educated at Eton does not guarantee a modicum of common sense.

Or compassion.

Why are people not reporting results?"

People do stuff for either reward, be that receiving money or a hit of dopamine, or to avoid consequence, be that paying money or feeling pain. Taking a Cov test delivers a personal reward ie the knowledge you are Cov negative and not a danger to those around you, that probably comes with a small hit of feel good dopamine... Reporting a test result gives no personal reward and there are no obvious consequence for not doing it.

I think it's a silly move to start to charge for tests, especially during a period when infection levels are rising so fast.

As with most infections, it's better to know that you're potentially infected and infectious to others, for the greater good of society. It potentially helps society financially too, so a small cost of a test is nothing. Especially when compared to the many tens of £billions that have been spent on test and trace, with questionable results.

For the last time.

What type of simpleton would claim something as a fact and then post a link claiming the gmnt were considering asking people to pay?

My comments were clearly posed as a question but like I said earlier, the fact that the only people actually discussing the article, are those critical of the gmnt, speaks volumes.

If you really wanna speak about the article, it states -

Tests are guaranteed to be free u till the end of July and a statement will be forthcoming regarding any extension of this.

It also states that only 14% of tests sent out have been registered.

Is it right that we as a nation of tax payers just keep wasting 86% of the money spent on those tests?

"Charging for them will mean less people will test, which is what they need people to do. What a stupid plan!"

Completely agree with this.

Especially as lots of places are saying you will need a negative test (mainly big events)

On those tests not returned, have they taken into account how many they hand out at one time.

Example we had to go for area PCR surge testing, when done they asked do you need any lft tests, I responded no I’ve already got 4 x boxes of 7, more than enough, I can pop back when I need some more. They then gave me 10 x boxes of 7. There are only two in the household and only one needs to do it twice a week. This last week the kid had to do daily lft testing for school, they sent him home with another three boxes of 7, term ended yesterday.

So I now currently have 12 boxes in the cupboard (84 tests). I’m one household so can see how the non returns could be so high.

So why do the test, do they not have to prove they’ve done the test for school, work and alike ?

I'm not entirely sure of the answer to that question.

All i can say is my daughters school have been handing them out like sweets. They do not have to prove they have done the tests though.

trouble most likely, or creating it :)

"Can't see charges being implemented for quite some time, the government needs all those false positives to keep driving the fear porn.

They can drive the numbers up and down at will its farcicle, this is why they're modeling have been proved wrong at every single turn.

Even the person who invented the testing method said he did not design it for this and it would not produce accurate readings. He mysteriously died shortly after saying that, funny that. "

as I've said, I've yet to have one of these false positives, yet in my house hold we do upwards of 15 tests per week between all of us.. the care home I work in has also not had a positive test that wasnt actually then later confirmed with a pcr test.

Weekly testing is mandated by my workplace. If they think I will be out of pocket to work they can think again.

They either pay or I work from home. Simples

Some people do it to see if they have it. If they haven’t got it then see no reason to record the result.

That's not like Lionel to twist something

Of course not, he would never twist something in order to gain abit of extra e-penis power!

Wanna explain the anti gmnt bit?

Yes, you hate the Tories, hence anti government, since the Tories are in power at the moment.

Right

So I'm not allowed to post articles which are not even remotely critical of the gmnt?

Gotcha

When you state something that the article doesn't, then yes, that's twisting the story.

There's no debate to be had in that regard.

There is but I really camt be arsed arguing with you both.

"

Lionel , take a break from the forums , you are taking things so seriously lately and it's really obvious it's getting to you.
