They said that about Covid.. "From the moment they detected Covid in China it was always going to be an issue, people just didn’t want to believe it. They didn’t say that Covid was low risk of spreading to the wider population. Anyway .. “Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that does not spread easily between people. It is usually a mild self-limiting illness and most people recover within a few weeks. However, severe illness can occur in some individuals.” I think that is probably like many viral infections. I think an STD is something that is spread primarily by sex, rather than just something that can be passed on during sex. Anywhere with close body contact is a transmission vector. Saunas, nightclubs, crowded pubs, swinger clubs, music venues, schools, packed public transport, etc etc. The suggestion that it is passed on sexually is misinformation. It is passed on by skin to skin contact but, that doesn’t necessarily have to be sexual contact. Whilst sexual contact is one way that transmission would occur, there are many other non-sexual situations too. To be stating that gay saunas are where the majority of infections occur is highly irresponsible. Doing so not only risks people thinking that it is an STI but, it also risks people thinking that it’s a “gay disease”, which causes a massive proportion of the population to be complacent because they believe that they won’t be affected by it simply because they don’t identify as a certain demographic. We only need to look at the HIV crisis to see the severity of that way of thinking. Truth is, the probability of Monkeypox becoming a major cause for concern is incredibly low, simply based on how transmissible it is between humans. However, careless scaremongering is highly contagious. I saw a good meme the other day that said something like, “A Monkeypox party already? But I’ve still got my War In Ukraine bunting still up!” I thought that was pretty spot on. | |||

I remember one of my teachers telling me their daughter (a Doctor) used to suit up in hazmat suits for simulated training for biological/chemical terrorism attacks. Who needs training though?
