Whats the point of uni the last few years... They are on strike and when not only direct you to you tube ...so...yeah makes perfect sense... And who knows... May lead to better outcomes.

I think the results of this can be seen most clearly in the law, with the rise of the sovereign citizen and other similar movements.

They just utter the magic Latin they learned online, and bingo, never get into trouble. *narrator voice: or so they think*

From the land of haribos.

Whilst a long education is good. I guess that it is the new generation, did you know that apparently most doctors around the world dont have a levels, a levels are basically a british qualification and although a number of commonwealth countries use them, that leaves a lot of the world that doesnt.

Blind trust isn't a good thing though. We are responsible for our own health choices. Dr's are part of our team to help us find remedies and keep us well. Bit they aren't to put our blind trust in that's for sure. They only know what we hell them... That and all the data they get from the vaccine chips.

Yes of course. Whatever formal exams and tests.. People learn stuff differently now that before. Not sure what is most effective but it's virtual "teaching" now for a virtual education to see your virtual gp and have your virtual access to the virtual nhs...

Most doctors I've seen are extremely well qualified, have studied for years and continue to update their skills.

The anaesthetist (a qualified doctor) who put a cannula in my eyeball didn't look it up on YouTube. Imagine the skill required to do that!

I was once sitting with a global expert in (my then field of study) when he needed to remind himself of a small detail. Yup, he Googled it.

It's not that experts know every shallow detail, it's that they have the depth and the familiarity to know what to do with that information.

The inability of forum participants to understand nuance is disheartening. Of course you would see a doctor if you were hurt or injured, that doesn't mean that you can trust all doctors about everything. Doctors disagree on many things. Unless they are an expert in their field they unavoidably go to the default position. I would always take advice from a doctor about a broken arm but most of them have had almost no training in nutrition and the effects of different kinds of exercise on health.

As a population we are more unhealthy than we have ever been despite record spending on healthcare, who is taking responsibility for this?

I have done my own research on nutrition and exercise and I am very pleased that I did. If I had followed the recommended advice I would probably be just another prediabetic drain on the NHS.

?

I mean, seriously?

Just to clarify, medical students need 3 As at A level. They are continually assessed through medical school. They have to pass multiple exams to qualify as a doctor. They then have on-going postgraduate exams to become a consultant in their specialist field.

What level of bs does a thread need to be deleted?

And it's not even about a virus.

My Diploma Mill can print you certificates - the only thing we need to get right is the spelling of your name, in order for you to help people. Some people know too much. Less is more. Technically, any state school can accept "unqualified" teachers, if they have a level of work experience or similar that qualifies them. Few schools actually make use of this, however. To teach exclusively in post 16, you don't need QTS. You need a teaching qualification but not full QTS.

General Practitioner (GP) often do not have a specialty but are able to make a more informed/educated decision about whatever ailments are put in front of them. When you consider the amount of issues put before then it must be a bit of a minefield. Possibly most of us could come to a pretty close diagnosis through use of YouTube/google, but certain things I’ll leave to a doctor to decide the appropriate action. Also to many people are quick to have a google at what’s wrong with them, but very rarely look at what could be the cause, such as diet, weight, general health!

The Conservatives expressed that we'd had enough of the old type of 'experts', so some short briefing/education via a podcast/YouTube must be a cost effective way to take the best from the pandemic, when experts popped up on YouTube and many lapped it up wholeheartedly. This type of individual can get all of the care needed from this new breed of medical practitioner. We can bring some of the old trusted methods along too. Use of dowsing rods for diagnosis can be learned from short practice.

So, you reckon you and most of us could come to a pretty good diagnosis when someone tips up to your fAB surgery, without any medical qualification.

What drugs would you prescribe?

What about their history, especially the stuff they think you want to hear and what is somewhere close to the truth, co morbidities, family history, mental health issues or are they just drama queens or folks wanting a week off work or forever off work.

So, how much do you drink each week Karen, nothing at all, just a Baileys at Christmas. Run at least 27km a day, 100 lengths of the baths twice a week, only eat salads and 15 pieces of fresh fruit a day. Wow, that's fantastic but how come you need a size 26 dress. Oh, your friend says you suffer from big bone syndrome and all this paperwork you printed from the internet shows its true .....

GP's not specialising in anything, what about specialists in community medicine?

Think you have unwittingly just proved why best to go to doctors when you are sick.

Solicitors when you want legal advice.

Roofers to fix your leaky roof.

Lolly pop ladies/gents when crossing a road.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow, hope you have good liability insurance.

"Most doctors I've seen are extremely well qualified, have studied for years and continue to update their skills.

The anaesthetist (a qualified doctor) who put a cannula in my eyeball didn't look it up on YouTube. Imagine the skill required to do that!

Shitting ouch!!!! wowsers

A very nice nurse actually almost laid across me to keep me still and stop me moving my hands up to stop him. I had had anaesthetic drops beforehand but I really deserved a brave soldier sticker that day "

Did it hurt ? You're braver than me !

I've had doctors Google my symptoms frequently in the last ten years or so.

Just after Xmas my mum was quite Ill and was taken to hospital, she had Covid and hadn’t eaten for over a week, without going into detail everyone was a little flummoxed with what was wrong and why treatments given were not having the effect they hoped. With google in my pocket I was able to question everything that had been done and also suggest what other parameters the doctors should consider. …. Further tests were completed and further treatments, based on my questioning and suggestion. During the time there nurses responded, at least 5 times, to my mums uncontrollable shaking by stripping blankets as she ‘had a temperature’, despite temperatures being taken and always showing a normal temperature. When the last was pushed he declared he didn’t trust the in ear thermometers and proceeded to administer paracetamol by drip to reduce the temperature she did not have!

The experience was very poor…. Without my interventions, Googling and questions raised she may well have not been with us now.

GPs don't use Google, they use an NHS app which logs symptoms and diagnosis of previous patients and are updating your patient records as you explain your symptoms.

Dr Google is a symptom of overuse of internet fake news

Doctors Google stuff? You mean, do they use the vast repository of knowledge that is freely available online? Probably, sometimes. Will they use 'Mick's' story on Reddit? Imma say no. They will probably use a peer-reviewed site. Huh! Doctors with their years of uni learning and on the job training, what do they know huh? Huh?? I mean...a lot?

I mean, seriously?

Just to clarify, medical students need 3 As at A level. They are continually assessed through medical school. They have to pass multiple exams to qualify as a doctor. They then have on-going postgraduate exams to become a consultant in their specialist field.

You can see that AI linked to a pinprick blood test, blood pressure monitor, all done at home, will replace GPs within a decade or so. Diagnosis will be faster, more accurate and no strikes

Healthcare AI is picking up fast. Government is considering what is on the horizon. Yes we need skilled specialist or super speciality doctors to deal with complex and critical health condition, but GPs are afraid of their role in next 10 years. They are the gatekeeper, and if AI can be used as copilot is decision making, their role will be limited. Having said that I would still not discount the importance of medicine degree. But I am telling you after talking to 7 of my GP friends, AI healthcare copilot is going to reduce GPs engagement time. I am deeply involved in this tech space, so I can see see from inside what is happening across all the private chain of hospitals in south east Asia.

Do you honestly think a doctor can remember everything and know all about every new diagnosis and treatment.

Years ago they would have gone to a shelf and got out a text book but now they check on line. It might look to you as though it's a normal Google search but they will be looking on proper medical sites looking for the little details they are not sure of.

They are not just googling symptoms like you would do from your sofa

GPs use well authored sites, like "Patient" and NHS sites and print the information at layman's level for patients. They've done away with the pile of pre printed (and probably expensive) leaflets in stacks and now just print what they need, that's specific for the individual.

The issue mostly is not the tool in which you use, but how you use it.

Web searching is full of information yes, undoubtedly full of things that mean something, but that's the issue, the interpretation of that information is and should only be done by people qualified in that field.

I'm pretty sure NHS optimise web searching to their terminals also.
