I have daily pain due to a Discitus infection that damaged 2 discs and a life time of sports wear and tear in the hip and pelvis area. I can hardly move in the morning due to pain .. however once I get going I use Naproxen (sparingly as it can cause gastro issues) or 500mg Codeine, but not every day, usually limit it to days when I’m either playing sports, dog walking or out and about. I also take, glucosamine, black pepper, tumeric, ginger and I use ice packs if I’m sitting and I’m discomfort. For me, exercise and movement are essential and I’ve sort got used to the pain threshold.. but some days it really sucks! I also have had surgery on shoulders and knees but the back surpasses everything you have my sympathies.. |

Not found any supplements help with my osteoarthritis hip pain.
I take codine daily and Etoricoxib for pain management. Top up with paracetamol. It takes the edge off .
I do exercise, mainly weights and stationary bike to keep hips moving. Walking is unable most days but I have too as the dog needs walking.
Have you got private medical insurance?

I agree, keep moving the joints as much as possible and lots of rest when having a bad flare up. These on me can last a week and energy levels so low it takes 10 days to recover.
Thankfully my counting down the days now until my hip replacement.
Hope you get surgery soon |

Experts say to stick with curcumin supplements, preferably the high-quality extracts used in clinical trials, which contain up to 95% curcumin. Look for brands using black pepper (piperine), phospholipids (Meriva, BCM-95) antioxidants (CurcuWIN) or nanoparticles (Theracurmin) for better bioavailability. Curcumin is hard for your body to absorb; only about 2 to 3% may end up in your bloodstream. To increase absorption even more, take curcumin with a meal where you consume some fat. Experts recommend 500 mg of high-quality curcumin twice a day for both OA and RA. Some advice from arthritis groups. |

I have arthritis in my fingers and suspect it's also in my wrist.
My physio recommended strengthening exercises and trying to keep the impacted joint's warm
I take a H&B supplement - High Strength Turmeric 600mg with Black Pepper. It definitely seems worse when I've run out for a week
I also heard HRT was good for bones and arthritis, which was my main motivation for starting it. |

Best thing to do is to avoid forums like this for advice and go and see a physio……
There will be a lot of keyboard musculoskeletal experts on here but each patient should be treated as an individual and always best to get qualified advice.

Brings tears to my eyes thinking that there hasn’t been any real progress in this area for decades. My mother had RA for the last 15 years of her life and she passed away in 2001. She would often sit in a dark room at night and just cry.
2024 was all but written off for me through nerve pain but that’s thankfully gone.
Really feel for you OP and all others with chronic pain. Hopefully the medical profession will come good soon. |

My physio wasn't much help. I was already doing most of the exercises he sent me, and said as my body issues were complex it was difficult to do much else for me.
I'm waiting for a pain management class that I believe to be a load of people in pain, chatting about what they do for their pain.
A bit like on this forum. |

I have osteoarthritis in my foot. Degenerative lower back problems. Two whiplash injuries. Been diagnosed with chronic pain been to pain clinic and pain rehab. I’m in pain 24/7 most or the time it’s ok with out taking pain killers. But I get flare ups from time to time. I swim which helps, use electric heat pads and tens machine and pain killers. Raging from paracetamol, co-codamol. Tramadol . After the flare up I try to get back to normal pain killers. It’s pain management for me |

I have bechèts syndrome
Not fatal or contagious but arthritic pain is one of the symptoms along with mouth ulcers/low immune system,(basically produce too many white blood cells that attack each other)
In my late teens upto thirties I was in agony with arthritis pain in my knee joints that would swell up and unable to move for days.
Thankfully it is dormant right now, hopefully never to flare up again |

Gout is a form of Arthritis, struggling with it right now.
I'm allopurinol, doesn't seem to be helping at the moment.
Reducing uric acid will help, drinking water frequently 2 litres a day to flush kidneys. You've got to change your diet, reduce purines..no alcohol red meat, etc |

I had a hip replaced 6½ years ago. Best thing ever. I have got osteoarthritis in my other hip but do far not giving me too much gyp. I went from thinking I'd never be able to going for a run again to 10km in under a year. Get it replaced if possible, I personally didn't find any tablets/ supplements that worked. You certainly don't want to be on ibuprofen for a long time. Go for the replacement! |

You are right about ibuprofen, I'm taking Omeprazole with ibuprofen, omeprazole is supposed to stop any stomach problems caused by pain killers. |
