Foam rollers are great and really cheap. Smooth is best for beginners.

1 stretch

2 roll

3 massage

I've learnt this over the years. I would even say do yoga first, to relax and repair, then pilates to strengthen and build.

Heat then cold, heat then cold...keep repeating.

Take ibuprofen if you are allowed to.

Gentle stretching.

My first experience of back spasms was ten years ago, I always used to take the piss out of 'glass backs', until one morning I woke up and had what I can only describe as an agonising pain orgasm when I tried to move, which lasted about ten or fifteen seconds, after that I was frozen in fear, as even the slightest move would trigger another one.... I'll never take the piss out of people with back pains ever again.

Thank you for all the advice, I've taken Diazepam in the past to relieve the spasm.

Took an amitriptyline to go to sleep last night.

Have been swapping frozen peas for hot water bottle on my afflicted parts.

Taking codeine and ibuprofen.

Will start some yoga exercises when I feel able.

worldofbooks. Nicola Jane Hobbs: yoga gym. Chooce your injury, look up the relevant area of the body, find the stretch for you. I've got this book and it works.

You can drop in and out of this book, so you pick and mix your exercises to suit.
