Thank you, think ive been put on the 15mg for one month, as at time i wasn't sleeping or eating, got a review in two weeks to see how im going.
I use to be able to eat alot, but recent times ive been wanting to loose wait, especially since cloths i want to wear, can never find em in XXL which is mega annoying haha.
Its good to hear that the meds helped you, and hopefully your able to slowly come off them, all the best in the future |

I was On 15mg for nearly all of my 30s. Mega anxiety, made me sleep 14 hours straight, wake up knackered and then eat my body weight in whatever I could get my hands on.
Make sure you take it early evening and ask doctor to help you when you want to come off it eventually, don’t just stop it’s dangerous. I went for CBT in the end and that was a massive help to come off meds.
Good luck. |

"I put weight on quickly with metazapine, it also sent me spiralling out of control so they changed me back into duloxetine pretty damned quickly. "
At one point I was taking both
Now only duloxetine
I take metazapin when I can't sleep or need to clear my head
Don't like them though was sleeping 12 hours |

I used to take it. It was good for helping me sleep, though it could be harder to get up in the morning at times.
Occasionally my anxiety and get a bit more intense since I stopped taking it.
Also it did make me gain weight, since not taking it I’ve lost 10kg.

I am on both, makes you feel really sleepy and does make you gain weight quickly, it was causing me more problems than I had originally. I have stopped taken the metazapine and feel better still feeling tired but the appetite has dropped to what it was before and feeling better both physically and mentally. |

Being honest it wiped me and slept for most days. Horrible Experience for me personally. My brother used to be on them and gained a substantial amount of weight. BUT don’t rule
It out, everyone is different. Best ones (currently on) for mood is Fluoxetine 🙃 |

After a couple weeks on it after asking about it,thanks for all the replies.
I dont think ive gained weight, but sleep, that's knocked me for six. I even fell asleep at work last week, a few days ive slept for 13 hours or so, next day feeling light and jumpy.
Admittedly. Even though i was given 15mg, i have taken at least four tablets at once.
I've started to see a psychiatrists, though i lapse at times. |

Hi OP hope you’re doing ok.
What made you take 4*15mg?
Curious as 1 usually knocked me out for 12 hours flat and woke up really groggy for most of the day. Dozed off throughout the day too, can’t really function then next day taking 1 the previous evening.
I was prescribed them for sleeping and beta blockers for the anxiety. Hated them both, nearly overdosed on propranolol during a work trip once, took so many as couldn’t shake the anxiety.
Made the decision to come off both and was given 6 sessions of CBT. Absolute game changer for me, still can’t believe the state I used to get in and post CBT my anxiety has totally disappeared. It rewires your brain and puts perspective on anxiety scenarios that teaches you to quickly process what’s happening to your body’s fight or flight responses. I’m grateful and blessed as it was a horrible time for me.
I still occasionally take half of I need a good sleep and my adhd brain won’t shut off after work.
Wishing you well |

Everyone must be different with these. I had a rough spell recently was put back on these. Had good experience in past so doc wanted me to try sertraline i said no way had terrible time with them years ago when they first came out. I have my mits every evening evening. Don't really notice any side effects I'm a big eater anyways. Sleep wise I'm prescribed zopiclone and 2mg diazepams aswell short term. Was in shitty place.... maybe it's just me but I can take my mitraz a zopiclone and 2 diazepams wake up 2 hrs later. Does chill me out but I'm up for work and operating heavy machinery each morning at 6.30am black strong coffee and some Shilajet resin stirred in and I'm full speed all day. Soon as I'm home and had dinner I do fall asleep tho. Stick with them |

I used to take it op, to help with sleep. It stopped doing anything for me, after a few years though so I weaned myself off it.
It can be effective though, but will take time to get in your system and you may need to tweak the dose too, for it to work well for you.
Good luck. |

A lot of differing experiences here, please don’t attempt to change anything until you have consulted with your medical professional.
For me mirtazopine was really effective in the short term for sleep etc and good because I took other meds too (less reactive apparently).
The higher the dose, usually means the drowsiness is less of an issue, and then you become relatively tolerant.
It can feel a bit of a slog until you get used to it, but presumably your medical professional has identified your symptoms and aligned you with the medication for a reason.
I know it’s easy to say but maybe if you treat your mental health as your first priority with half an eye on managing the appetite increase, you can then address some of the physical challenges once you feel more able.
Good luck man 🙏 |

I take Sertraline. I have taken antidepressants off and on for 23 years.
They never make me drowsy or gain weight. Antipsychotics/Mood stabiliser made me gain weight and brain fog. But I tapered off that and I'm 2 years out from withdrawals.
GP diagnosed me with anxiety and depression but what's really wrong with me is Borderline/Emotionally Unstable Personality disorder, Autism and Trauma.
I've had intensive therapy twice a week with 3 clinical psychotherapists and a group on the NHS for 18 months. This is the most stable I've been. I haven't been admitted to a hospital or sectioned in nearly 10 years.
A psychiatrist diagnoses and prescribes medication
A psychologist focuses on behavioural, emotional, and cognitive aspects.
A psychotherapist follows a certain therapy modality and methodology looking at behavioural, cognitive, emotional and somatic aspects of mental health and giving the client/patient tools/skills to cope and mitigate the most negative, unhealthy and dysfunctional symptoms and traits.
I see 2 clinical psychotherapists in an NHS peer group a week and two private therapists through BetterHelp online a week. My PIP disability pays for BetterHelp.
Basically, I work a recovery programme every week, just like people from Anonymous groups. That's what keeps me stable and so far off the anti-psychotic and tapering off the antidepressant.
I do exercise and I track my steps with a fitbit to make sure I stay active and keep the worst of obesity conditions away.
Do not take more than 4 tablets at once. If you miss a dose only take the next dose. It can mess up your stomach and your central nervous system. |

Mirtazapine has a component which aids sleeping in it, hence why you take it at night. Any medications have side effects and those to help with mental health aren’t any different. You wouldn’t really see positive effects of it working until week 6, but then it’s trial and error with anti depressants/anxiety reducing medications.
Speak to your GP regarding your concerns, there are many options out there and they will go through the list of pros/cons of each with you.

Been on it for three and a half years now, prior I had had somewhat of a breakdown which included depression and anxiety and also severe sadness , not wanting to go out, stopping all my social activities, stopping swinging and sex with no interest in them(which was unheard of for me) and struggling to eat anything and struggling to sleep, ie sweating with anxiety as soon as I got in bed, the whole thing came out of nowhere. After trying to get it under control for several weeks I finally rang GP and got a phone appointment (during Covid).
He recommended Mirtazapine, and even then I tried further to get in under control for a few more weeks, but the final straw was going into town one day with my father and coming back crying and in a terrible state and knew I finally had to take them, so took one that evening, circa July 22.
An instant 180, went to sleep within minutes , woke up next morning ready to eat a horse and my mood was much improved and more relaxed. It absolutely gave me a humongous appetite and I was grabbing everything at hand.
It helped me through a very dark period but long term here’s some observations of the tablet. It can make you put on a ton of weight due to increased appetite as it acts on an inhibitor in your brain regarding fullness and appetite plus it also changes the way your body stores fat, AND of course due to the sedating nature of the tablet,(in order to help with sleep and to calm you down and make you feel chilled out) this makes you, well frankly not wanting to do much of anything physical.
These combined are the factors why most but not all people on it end up putting on weight. It makes you hungry and it makes you sluggish and you reduce your physical activity. There’s also a big feeling that “nothing really matters” and becoming very blasé of chilled about things, which I think is due to it acting on a receptor in the brain, which helps you relax and cope with the stress and dance you had before.
Other effects are also a much decreased sex drive so be warned!!
It helped me massively through a very dark period but I’m stuck on it now and attempts to come off it have been unsuccessful. I’ve gone from a few days to the most a few weeks off it but always ended up going back because I felt I needed to. It’s a comfort thing now and is clearly still helping me, but in other areas the side effects are ones I hate as mentioned above, so it’s a double edged sword
Think very carefully before you start them, they are brilliant if your struggling to eat and sleep, but tip the balance of both of them way over into concerning territory once your on them. maybe try another type of AD before Mirt, ones that don’t make you vulnerable to weight gain.
Not everybody will get the same side effects but a vast majority do experience them with this pill |

Grab some munjaro and crack on. Best advice I can give having seen what they can do; it counteracts the eat eat eat. And if you do stuff you just 🤮 so make sure to not eat big meals when you take your meds. |

I've found Mirtazapine to be very helpful for me. Decreased anxiety/depression and defo aids sleep. I haven't noticed the weight gain/appetite side effects at all, if anything I've lost a little bit of weight. But taking medical advice from randoms on the internet is generally a bad idea so seek professional advice if anything concerns you x |
