I am just baffled, how blind some people are to what is really going on around them. The fact is, once a virus exists it never goes away, it’s how our bodies adapt to it, once something‘s created it can never be got rid of, just tell me where does it go |

Wow some really nasty people commenting on this post, if you don't agree, don't post, simples! Everyone is allowed their view
Like any virus it will continue to mutate which is why the flu jab changes all the time and so on.
Weather changing and people's vit D will reduce so to be expected I guess that people are going to get viruses as immune systems get low.
My friend has had cold like flu symptoms for over 3 weeks now alongside other symptoms |

It's pointless even testing for Covid since whether or not your symptoms are confirmed as Covid, the treatment is the same as for flu. Paracetamol and fluids, and avoiding passing it on to others.
Anybody getting a testing kit to check if they have Covid or not are wasting their time and money. A completely pointless exercise! |

Not if you're working in care. We are still expected to test, as we have service users who are clinically vulnerable. Last year, in October, we had at least 10 staff and service users off at the same time, with symptoms. |

Didn't you say they were rude?
My post is sticking within forum rules which asks people to send feedback about mods to the site owners and not on the forum. If you want to send your comments to the right place you can talk about controlling the narrative there too.

People may deny it but there is a lot of Covid still going around. The effects have been mitigated because of the vaccine but it is still around.
The effects generally are now similar to a cold / flu. However, people are still dying of Covid - they tend to be unvaccinated though. |

Viruses need hosts, in order to multiply and spread to others. It's sometimes between different animal species and our own viruses that infect us, will spread amongst other people.
They're not living animals, they're just able to use living organisms so that they reproduce and spread. They may mutate readily and, if no longer able to find a host to reproduce inside, then we can think of them as extinct. Smallpox has become extinct at least once. Polio is vastly reduced now in its scope, due to vaccine use. |

Speaking as someone who was extremely ill with COVID before the vaccine, I still find these comments and attitudes highly insensitive.
So yeah whilst it's no worse than flu or other viruses it can still be fatal.
Fatal as in people dying, dead you know not breathing anymore.
So perhaps engage some sense of sympathy and understand others didn't and possibly won't get off lightly.
And saying it's only like having the flu, remember in 1918 the Spanish flu killed almost 100 million people.
Or was that made up as well? |

I remember having a conversation this time last year with a doctor when my mum was in hospital and he was saying covid has become the new cold and flu. It’s only a problem now with vulnerable people and those with respiratory conditions, but it hasn’t gone away that’s for sure, and they can see it sticking around for a quite a while yet, no matter what the 2 verifications Don Carlos thinks, maybe he needs to do some growing up!

Oddly enough my wife says the same thing, though since having COVID as opposed to the jabs.

Not the case. Most healthcare workers are still required to test and a lot of health based employers still require you to isolate if you are positive. I had to isolate for 5 days last year with it, and 6 of us were off at the same time (I ended up being off for 2 weeks in total as I needed steroids afterwards due to being a brittle asthmatic). That had a massive effect on how many patients were able to be seen that week, because that’s 6 clinics gone per day for the entire 5 days. My clinic alone meant 80 patients couldn’t be seen that week, as I would see 26 patients a day.
Just one person sick with Covid or D&V could wipe out our entire ambulance operational control room, which has a knock on effect of putting the other 2 under increased pressure due to the staff shortages, meaning calls take longer to be answered, which means longer delays in the person needing help getting it.
So yes, it is ‘just another virus’ now, but the consequences in a healthcare setting can be catastrophic, which is something people don’t seem to realise |

I’ve had an episodic chesty cold for 2 weeks now. It’s improving, but not as quickly as I would expect for a cold. Wondering whether it’s actual Covid, or my pre-exposed immune system reacting in an off kilter way to a normal seasonal cold. Or could just also be a regular stubborn cold, probably. Can’t test, so hey ho |

Think I had it recently again.
Distinct from cold or flu symptoms in my experience, though there is some crossover (headaches etc)
Covid seems to result in a wheezing on my lungs whilst I have it that feels different. Also, it’s the only bug I’ve caught that has resulted in Costochondritis on more than one occasion.
What’s the situation with vaccines these days. The virus is obviously evolving, so are the vaccines being updated? Because those of us who don’t qualify for one seem to have been left to it… |

Covid is not generally tested these days.
The symptoms would just be treated as a general respiratory virus in the first instance.
So, to answer your question, even if you did succumb to the covid virus, you'll probably not be tested so would never know what flavour virus you have.
I can only speak for my NHS Trust.
If debilitating, it's bed, paracetamol and plenty of fluids and of course now it will count towards your sick leave Covid or not. |

This is so true. I’ve only had Flu twice in the last 25 years or so. I know the difference: with a Cold, you can just about plod on doing basic or essential tasks as long as you don’t over exert yourself.
Flu, you bearly have the strength to even get out of bed for a week, even going to the loo is a major effort, then there is another week or more of slowly regaining strength. |

Judging by the fab cams, I see many obese, smokers, drinkers and sedentary individuals.
By living healthier and changing your lifestyle, you will increase your resilience against all infections!
Personally, I get rather irritated by being asked to live my life catering to individuals who are sick and vulnerable, often because of their own unhealthy lifestyles aggravated by the neuroticism that frequent healthcare visits can induce.
I'm well over 70, extremely lifestyle aware, fit and avoid medical visits unless absolutely necessary. The only vaccine I take is flu yearly as got fed up and concerned after 5 covid RNA shots!
We are all swingers and good sex is one of the healthiest activities available.

Have 2 staff at work both tested positive with Covid. Both have vulnerable family / friends so it’s only right to test to protect those people. Both started as a sore throat and then developed into flu like symptoms but lasting for 2 weeks.
I get legally you don’t have to do anything but morally it’s right to test and then to be considerate. Some vulnerabilities are not obvious so why risk giving it to someone else? |

If you recall, Africa was going to suffer terribly from Covid. The lack of vaccines, poverty etc. It was going to devastate Africa, the leftist press and naive epidemiologists told us.
In reality, the continent escaped very lightly. As a Kenyan said, 'when you don't know where the next loaf of bread will come from, you don't worry about covid!'. |

Africa has advantages when dealing with covid compared europe. Younger average population, warmer weather, less densely populated areas etc. Of course most African countries are not the best at collecting death stats either. |

Only the vulnerable have ever been at risk of Covid. Unfortunately Chris Whitty and the Nanny State government decided to remove the population’s human rights instead of protecting the vulnerable. Natural immunity with a little help from the vaccine was always going to minimise the virus.
Chris Whitty deliberately chose lockdowns to save the vulnerable at the expense of testing for cancer, heart disease, dementia, closing down schools and doubling the mental health issues in this country. Knighthood for the total abuse of the UK population? Really? |

All factual - Chris Whitty the Chief Medical Officer decided to ignore the obvious increases in deaths of cancer, heart disease, dementia and doubling of mental health issues in the UK at the expense of Covid which was only ever going to be a risk to less than 1% of the UK population.

"
I got cancer when I was at my most fittest and healthiest, so it is not it is all cracked up to be. |

"All factual - Chris Whitty the Chief Medical Officer decided to ignore the obvious increases in deaths of cancer, heart disease, dementia and doubling of mental health issues in the UK at the expense of Covid which was only ever going to be a risk to less than 1% of the UK population.
" so healthy people weren't affected badly by covid then... ??? |

No more than healthy people who can become ill with influenza and pneumonia. Exactly the same percentages were ill with Covid.
The Government already knew by name and NHS number which people were vulnerable as they are all registered for the Flu jab based on age and being classified as vulnerable. |

"Speaking as someone who was extremely ill with COVID before the vaccine, I still find these comments and attitudes highly insensitive.
Or was that made up as well?"
I had it before it had a name. Possibly the worst 6 weeks of my life. It's definitely not a flu. Anyone that had one of the early strains would know that. |

Until there were vaccines available we were losing a lot of people. My daughter lost 1/5th of her classmates to covid... thankfully I'd already pulled her out and was keeping her at home to school. |

I had the first strainwhile it was bad with the breathing being the worst symptom.
I can still honestly say the last time I had flu was much worse.
I honestly did think I was going to die from flu in my 40s it hit me so bad. |

Carlo - all valid points and I too had Covid in December 2019 for 6-8 weeks and it was dreadful and not dissimilar to the first time I had Flu 25 years ago.
The Spanish did kill millions but most of that was down to poverty and other illnesses as a very high percentage of the population was vulnerable.
The UK lockdowns were totally unnecessary and ridiculous given that the peak of infection and the strain was two to three months before we had a lockdown which made it pointless and stupid.
In fact from May to August any fit and healthy person should have been encouraged to be exposed to the low strain virus to build up natural immunity in the country.
Chris Whitty knew this as did the UK Government but they wanted to appear caring and win votes. |

You must have been in a parallel universe
Infections were high before the March lockdown but weren't at their peak . Look again at the numbers for 2020/1
There was also an increase, following 'eat out to help out' and early autumn. The best immunity was acquired more safely and not via letting infections run rampant, as you propose, which would have increased severe illnesses and deaths, as well as overloaded hospitals and the health service, which needed to recover from catastrophic overload. |

Yes the same parallel universe where due to unnecessary lockdowns cancer deaths in 2023 reached there highest levels in 30 years because people were not tested or treated. The same statistics are there for heart disease and dementia and of course the doubling of mental issues from 10 to 20% of the population.
Obviously, the only illness which was relevant to Whitty and the Government in 2020 and 2021 was of course covid.
All other illnesses were asked to be put on hold to fit in with the unilateral approach to the country’s health. Well done Chris Whitty look at all the deaths you are responsible for. Chris The Chief Medical Officer for the UK said I thought it may have an impact but I wasn’t asked ! |

"It's hard to say as very few people test, there's definitely something going around"
This .
I have just recovered from a 2 week dose of something.
It could of been cold it could of been covid.
I wouldn't know the difference. |

Paracetamol is a bad idea. Your body raises your temperature to make creating immune cells to deal with your infection more efficient and to disrupt your infection by taking your body temperature above the infections sweet spot.
Each immune killer cell generated requires a vitamin d3 molecule so hopefully you will have been supplementing. If you haven't been supplementing then it's too late as it takes 2 weeks to become effective. However on the continent you can buy the reservoir form calcifidiol which is active within 2 hours. |
