Excilor. You can get it in a pen or a bottle and you paint it on. Ive used both and both worked brilliantly.

Those School treatments where you file the nail and paint on the liquid after. If you can get past the monotony of doing it regularly for a year, it worked perfectly for me. |

Go to GP. Explain what you have already done. Prescription pill may want to check heart and kidney functions. Carry on doing everything else as well. |

Lamasil works, I've lost the itch. The French maincure nails are still there though. I never had the smelly feet, luckily.
Have you checked for pre diabetes, as the infection might be a symptom of something else. Not to alarm anyone, but there is a lot of Venn diagrams going on and one symptom can appear in both circles. Poor circulation needs ruling out too. |

I tried various OTC treatments which didn’t work so I saw my GP who after asking me to provide a nail clipping for testing, prescribed Terbinafine tablets. I took them for 7 months and the infection cleared up.
See your GP but you will need to be patient, it takes a while for the drugs to work.
I also had a blood test to check my liver and kidney function. |

My mother recently did this for my father.
Took like 3 months but... it worked.

This was covered on Sliced Bread yesterday, where they evacuate whether products are the best thing since sliced bread or BS.

The fungus is under the nail, so is extremely difficult to access and treat, hence why most products fail. A good listen, so you're better informed |

There's poor evidence even for the professional lasers, costing £thousands and zero evidence for at home LED type light treatments |

That's the gold standard treatment, albeit with the need for regular blood tests, to monitor impact on kidney function etc |

If you have tried OTC medication and no positive outcome, nip along to your GP with the list of meds you've already used.

See a pharmacist. It might be a fungal infection too and a very high percentage of people have them on the sole of their feet |

Go to your GP and get an antibiotic all the over the counter ones are a waste of money I think its called taberfine or something 🤔 the only thing is its quite hard on your liver so you have to get a blood test every month 🤔 |

Last week Paul needed a consultation.
Sent a message about 8.15am on Patches, 9.10am phone call from GP, quick chat, told him to pop in at 10am if convenient. 10.15am all done.

There’s some strong tablets you can get from the doctors that work a treat . All those ones from the pharmacy don’t work .
They will want a blood test though as it’s liver toxic to some people. I was fine when I did a course of them a few years ago |

"Whiy is this fungus so expensive to get rid of?" it's typically because our nails are pretty effective barriers, developed over many years. The infection is typically below the nail, which stops the fungus being accessed by the treatment.
The cure rate is incredibly low, for most of the treatments. Our feet are also usually contained within perfect breeding grounds of these fungi, warm, dark, humid and a very high proportion of people have skin infections on their feet, without realising it. Due to the ever present fungi, reinfection is amazingly easy.
Overall, the nails are very tough barriers, for liquids to penetrate and most treatments are water or oil based.
Just realised you asked about the cost - I think it's the difficulties and the very long treatment time, for clearance of the fungus. |

Uv will penetrate, so that makes sense. I've had a crushed thumb and the nail fell off, then regrew again and I can't remember which one it was. The fact that aI can't remember is good news. |

Don't anti-biotics work on bacteria only
Anti virals work on viruses
and
Anti-fungals on fungal infections?
Does the precription medication require monitoring of the liver, due to the potency?

Odd...Um that's not working OP.
So I had a pesky verruca and it took daily applications and aggressive filings and keeping it covered in bandages while in shoes and no shoes or slippers or socks at home.
If I had a fungal infection, it would be socks and sandals until it cleared up even in bloody winter.
Also put your socks on a hot wash with that Dettol wash thing... or bleach if your socks are white. I know not everyone wears clean socks every day but I need to because I'm a sweaty mess all over..every day! multiple times a day. Gym socks straight in the wash. Do not keep them on after the gym. |

Why not do the boiling water thing first? That way they’ll spin dry in the wash, and dry faster x |

Fair comment if they are going in a machine wash. Worthy of consideration also as a sterilisation action before hand washing them.

I had it both feet , mentioned it at the docs. Tablets for 6 maths daily and had to go for a blood tests after 3 maths to make sure liver isnt being affected. Never missed a dose and blood test was fine, toenails are still growing out the fungal bits but they are looking really good from the bed upwards. Started at beginning of year and nearly completely clear now.. highly recommended |

I live in work boot and as my job dictates it, terbenifin tablets are the only thing that works for me but like above, blood test, moth and a half of daily tablets then another blood test to check liver then more tablets, iv tried all over the counter stuff and non fully cure it so tablets work out the best option as most remedies takes age as the nail grows out, some are rather expensive so it's better and cheaper to pay the prescription |

It seems tob effective for getting rid of fungus under nails but in my case leaves the nails unsightly and brittle.
However it appears to enhance circulation in the toes during winter.
In summer there is no substitute for sandals and sunshine. My nails come back to normal easy to clip life, then. |

There is a cream you can ask for if you go private, I can't remember it's name but It's a combination product - antifungal antibacterial and steroid - deals with all those kinds of skin and nail issues within 48 hours. Dermatologist I went to said if it's not shifting with over-the-counter medicines it's totally pointless keep trying different ones as it's built resistance .
You should be able to get it in the uk with an online dermatologist consultation. |

Before this is considered, all topical treatments need to be exhausted first. You will also need to provide your GP with nail cuttings to confirm infection, then have bloods done to check your liver function before, during and after treatment. Therefore it isn’t something they will issue without having tried everything else first.
Tea tree oil was recommended by my podiatrist when I picked her brains about it during one of my appts.
(Just FYI, I do know what I’m talking about - registered HCP that spent 2 years working in primary care seeing fungal nail infections on the regular before anyone comes at me!) |

That's absolute rubbish. Any good doctor will tell you take one look at it and tell you the topical treatment won't touch it or any effective and the prescription one deals with it in one to 2 days and it never comes back absolute rubbish about needing blood tests or nail clippings too. You can do a private consultation online or in person and don't need any of those things. |

Terbenifin is heavy on the liver
And it takes weeks to clear a fungal nail infection

So being in boots all day I've had that for years, took terbinafine for 6 months had a blood test every 6 weeks. It has come back but it's been clear for ages especially if you don't wear steels you'll be fine |

Had a break from Vick treatment and went back to the cheapo paint on stuff.
Vick certainly keeps the powdery stuff under the nail at bay but the side effect is that it makes my nails brittle and not so nice to look at.
Working on a combination approach during the next few weeks. |

Yes! It's a very good show.
They covered fungal nail treatments very well. I don't know if anyone in the thread listened to it though. The topical treatments didn't get very promising feedback |

I've just bought a couple of tube of fugal foot powder from SAVERS and it's just like talc, rub it on your feet and sprinkle it in your footwear For 1 pound 50, it's really cheap.
The first improvement is the peeing skin which clears up.
Then the nail bed eventually stops being yellow and then you can see the yellow nails, finally get their marching orders, slowly but steadily. do it daily and hopefully it will go away and stay away.
Much better than taking tablets, or painting each nail with some potion. |

Mine only took a few days.
I didn't bother with a GP. I went to a dermatologist and they prescribed that stuff - no liver test no warnings. They said it's the only thing that shifts it and also to have 2 pairs of shoes for work & wear them on alternate days so they dry out and it won't come back

It was a long time ago i had this.. ended up going to the docs and they gave me a short course of medication.. I will probably spell it incorrectly... Tibirafine.. I think... you can't take the course for too long because it can damage your kidneys.. but it worked after the course had finished, the nail started to grow back normally after a few weeks. |

"Terbinafine is the most sure fire
Way
Oral tablets for 3 to 6 months
Anti fungals can be heavy on the liver
Prescription only
Seconding this over all else
Before this is considered, all topical treatments need to be exhausted first. You will also need to provide your GP with nail cuttings to confirm infection, then have bloods done to check your liver function before, during and after treatment. Therefore it isn’t something they will issue without having tried everything else first.
That's absolute rubbish. Any good doctor will tell you take one look at it and tell you the topical treatment won't touch it or any effective and the prescription one deals with it in one to 2 days and it never comes back absolute rubbish about needing blood tests or nail clippings too. You can do a private consultation online or in person and don't need any of those things."

That's the stuff, cures anything, fungus, mushrooms, mold. unsure of their personal hygiene ? lube up with terbinifine.
What will happen when it reaches 175, will there be a part 2 ?

Natural Yoghurt - as with EVERY fungal infection by applying Natural Yoghurt (Greek Yoghurt) to the affected area and rinsing off after 15 mins will treat it !
Not overnight - nails take longer as they need to "grow out" but it works ! |

Not sure if it’s *the algorithm* but I just saw an old Chinese man on TikTok saying pour mouthwash on your feet, then soak them in it with baking soda and white vinegar, cures fungal nail infections, and cancer and softens hard skin |

Why does the NHS spend money on chemotherapy if cancer can be cured with mouthwash and baking soda ? 🤔 |

"I have a constant itch on the ball of my big toe
no visible signs of anything
any ideas ? what should I put on it
tia"
If it's on the ball, it's extremely unlikely to be nail fungus.
More likely to be a verucca or similar.
There are many OTC treatments available
Bazuka or Wartie both have very good reviews and aren't overly expensive.
Bazuka seems to be more popular.
If that doesn't work, see your GP. |

Menthol based paste does NOT kill fungus!
If it did, don't you think Vicks™ would have cashed in on this??? |

Vicks probably are cashing in on all the free publicity they are getting from this thread. It is costing them nothing and nobody can complain if it doesn’t really work!
It might mask some of the symptoms but it certainly isn’t a miracle cure! |

Basically this.
Chiropodist deal with toes and nails.
Podiatrist deals with everything below knees.
Splints, nail surgery etc.
