Had a partial (central compartment) 5 years ago.
Never been better than pre-op. Kneecap mal-tracks and it hurts all the time.
Currently in the cycle of constant re-referral to the guy who did it who says there's nothing wrong with it.
Don't.

"I’m seeing a surgeon tomorrow to see if I will have a replacement done "
I'm seeing another surgeon in a few months time.
Wish I'd never met the original lying cunt.
They all have an ego problem.

I’ve recently had my second microfracture on a 1cm hole in my knee cartilage.
If that doesn’t work I’ve been told I’m going down a mosaicplasty and if that’s unsuccessful a knee replacement.
This has been giving me pain for 12 years and only this year has my 6th(!) consultant took my pain seriously. |

Luckily I was told I wasn't eligible as I can traverse up and down stairs! They gave me a steroid injection and it's made a world of difference!!
Thanks for all your advice! I won't be asking for it again!!

I had a knee op in February this year I done loads of work before home strengthening my leg and they in the gym. I must say the pain for the first four weeks after the operation was horrendous but it does get better as people say you must do your exercises I go to the gym three days a week I do light weights on my operated leg. Then I go in the rowing machine treadmill and bike and all this has helped. I'm so tired had the operation on their pain-free and got full range. It's all worth it but you need to put the work upfront and after my consultant told me the range of movements you have in six months is a range you'll be left with some work hard in the first six months to get a full range. |

Had a partial seven weeks ago
It's still more painful than I expected. The physio said the pain will eventually diminish, but I'm shitting myself that it won't
2,000 steps and I'm hobbling like mad |

Knee replacements are usually very painful , used to be an orthopaedic nurse many years ago before moving into the district .
Folks used to wake up after a hip replacement and say Where's the pain gone but not after a knee replacement but it's worth persevering it's worth it in the end .
My only bit of advice would be to try and avoid minor knee surgery if at all possible , use exercises / physio etc and keep your knees as mobile and strong as possible .
I was having pain with my knees on stairs etc and I used to take my son to karate and was bought a karate suit for my 40th , the exercises and low stances were!a struggle for months but my knees became so mobile and strong they are just as good 25 years after . |

I can't believe some of you youngsters have had a knee replacement. Im 63 and my local hospital won't do it as they say I'm too young . And it will be worn out within 10 years . |

I had my left knee replaced 2.5 years ago and recovery didn't go well. Currently on the waiting list to have my right knee replaced and to say I'm not looking forward it is an understatement as know how intense the pain in x |

I had a TKR 10 years ago (at 46, but surgeons had been putting it off for years as I was too young). They only have a certain shelf life, between 10 to 20 years I was told. Mine is still going strong 10 years on, but I do a lot of fitness to support my joints & also lost some weight.
The pain immediately post-op was excruciating, but I did all the physio & home exercises as instructed. I did finally feel the beneficial results 6 months down the line & honestly have never looked back. Do the work & it will be life changing |

I’d try seeing a decent rehab therapist first speaking from experience. I have very little cartilage in one knee from my football days. I was in constant pain dislocating regularly. I saw many physios with no improvement. I saw a specialist rehab therapist and within 6 months, no pain and stronger than ever. I’d been offered replacement surgery but glad I never went down that route with only being in my 40’s. |

I've had both knees done, 11 and 9 years ago. Dreadful pain, used to cry with it. The best way to cope is to do all the exercises they tell you to do, i had physio frequently plus take all the pain killers they gave me. Take the painkillers frequently, as prescribed, so they keep on top of the pain. I used to use heat and cold packs on my knee. Also used a Tens machine which was great. Once the scar was healing my other half used to do a gentle massage/tickle on the scar which was lovely. Good luck, feel free to msg me |

Who would’ve thought that cutting open a joint, moving all the muscle and tendons to gain access to the bone, sawing the bone off, hammering in metal prosthesis, trying to put it all back together and stitching you up so you can walk on it in 48hrs would hurt!? |

I had both of my knees replaced last year. The first one in May wasn't too bad but the second one in September was bad, I had to sleep in a recliner chair for 5 weeks. The important thing is to do the exercises. 3 weeks after the 2nd replacement I caught covid on my birthday and because I felt so rough I stopped doing the exercises. Because of this 6 weeks later I ended up in hospital with a massive blood clot on my lungs,I was told afterwards that I was lucky to get through it.12 months on and the pain was worth it, walking around pain free now. Just do the exercises! |

At the age of 21 I was told I would eventually need new knees.
I'm now 60 and they're holding up.
I get some pain going up and down stairs, but I'm very careful with them.
I need to lose weight to take the load off, and hopefully they'll last into my 70s.
I'm not sure I'd like an operation in my 80s, if I live that long. |

I had a bi-lateral total knee replacements 3 years ago. It was a very painful experience, but the most important thing was to do the exercises from day one. I see your post was from 4 weeks ago so I hope you have been doing them. If you do then you will probably find it the best thing you have done. I am so much more mobile now, able to train again and have lost 3 and half stone as a result. Good luck.

This is exactly how you do it... You can't sit on the couch and just expect it to get better!
Prehab is as important as rehab.... They do the work, the rest is down to yourself! |
