Testing - what's considered standard frequency?
Jump to: Newest in thread
It's important to remember that many of the nasties you might pick up may take a good few weeks to show up on a test, so testing quite soon after a club visit might not be effective.
If you are a couple who have unprotected sex together (making it more likely that if one of you has something, so will the other), you could go down the 3 month strategy, but stagger it so one half tests 6 weeks after the other. This should (hopefully) flag anything up sooner than if you both tested at the same time on a 3-month rotation but without having to do more testing.
As is always said on here, testing is everything. Sadly, the attention of the NHS seems solely on MSM (men who have sex with men), so almost all of the useful resource (vaccinations against gonorrhoea, Hep, Mpox, HPV etc, Prep, and perhaps most usefully of all for swinger couples - Doxy) is not available to MF couples or females, allowing gonorrhoea to run rampant through many swinging communities.
My hope is that doxy will be rolled out for MF swinger couples and single females as just one dose circa 24hrs after play will dramatically reduce many of the nasties commonly caught in swinging situations (through oral as much as penetrative).

Doxy is available to MF couples. We've been on it since Sept. Currently not taking it, as on Doctors orders, no sex, after operation (not sex related). But will be back on it in March when we're active again. |

My local area clinic recommends:
Before and after each new sexual partner or every 3 months if you are regularly changing partners.
I also get reminders from SHUK every 2 months |

We test a couple of times a year. We always play safe and go to clubs every 6 weeks or so. Our local GU clinic is excellent, brilliant staff and very discreet. Very good service , wish the rest of the NHS was as good. |

I find it intriguing that someone people think safer sex. ie condom use for fucking keeps them.innthr clear
Nearly everything that can be transmitted through intercourse can be spread orally.hiv is a bit of an exception it is hard to spread orally as long as mouth and throat have no breaks in the skin
Better to describe safe sex as safer sex
Best protection for everyone is regular sti testing treatment and dropping the stigma re sti's and being open. Grown up and honest

The last ten men I chatted to on here re meets all have exactly this type of ignorant misconception
" I don't test ever because I don't need to because I always use a condom for sex (but not for oral)"
I have to explain to them why their approach is risky |

Even though my clinic keep telling me I am higher risk they still only recommend 3 monthly testing. They are, however, regularly turning me into a pin cushion with all the vaccinations. So far Hep A and B, gonnorhea and Mpox as well as being prescribed PREP and Doxy PEP. There was some umming and arring over giving me the gonnorhea and Mpox as strictly I didn't meet their criteria at that visit but then decided they could flex things anyway I think mainly based on me having discussed that I was thinking of attending a club the next 1/4. |

"told the clinic I have bare anal sex with bisexual men so I can get all the vaccinations
Did you tell the truth "
Nope. I lied to get access to vaccinations because condoms aren’t 100% safe and straight men lie about who they sleep with. |

"Just did mine today, anybody else have problems with those pesky finger prickers?, or just me ?Lol"
Its not just you, it certainly take perseverance (with more than one finger for me). A hot bath helps I find. |

Protecting yourself adequately and mitigating risky contacts is a sensible route, combined with regular testing.
PreP is available to anyone who exhibits a sexual risk, if you're really concerned you can buy it online. DoxyPEP isn't available in all areas, but again, it can be bought reliably online.
Combine this with using condoms where possible and recognising some interactions will carry more risk than others as will people from certain demographics...although ultimately most STi's have a 2-12 week window period which testing may not capture within shorter testing periods.

I test every month but I have 3 clinics I go to all under different boroughs. So when 2 months have passed, the 1st clinic is seeing me again and so on; this makes it 3 months by their standards and rules. I also do home test kits every 6-8weeks And gives me piece of mind that way.
With the home test kits, drink water/fluids about an hour before and run yours hands under hot water (as hot as you can stand) for about 2mins and once dried off, then use the lancers- watch the blo*d just want to go in to the pot 😁 |

I pricked it and no blood came out, had to use all three, then take one apart to get out the sharp part to try again. |

I do it in the shower: get into a hot shower and keep your arm low so that the blood runs to the fingers. Make sure you are nice hot and the blood is pumping in your hands.
Turn the shower off, dry your hands and keep your them low so the blood stays there and then prick your finger. The shower will quickly look like a murder scene but you will easily collect all the blood you need. Wash it off when you have finished. Problem solved. |

Every three months or less, even though I use condoms to give oral sex as well as when being fucked. The clinic have been very helpful with vaccination and advice on prep.
Nearly all my sex is with multiple men in a few hours in a club once or twice a month, or less (virtually none though this website!). |

"I believe all swingers should get themselves tested regularly for everyone's sake even if they have protected sex."
Yes, I agree, but I think that it is important to remember that testing although very important is not actually any form of protection in itself, it just tells you that you have picked something up.
In a club on Wednesday a man who has tried this before wanted to fuck me without a condom because ‘I’m clean and I am on prep’ as if that would protect me and that he could actually know that he was ‘clean’ rather than just not having tested positive for anything whenever he was last tested. |

If you use condoms for oral and anal, why do you test? What exactly are you testing for? |

I struggled my first time then I worked it out for myself: prick your finger in the very tip itself. (Not as described in the leaflet)
It will sting a bit more but will produce good stream of big fat droplets of blood easily |

Rather proves my point lol |

Condoms can break and some viruses can get through some condom materials. They reduce risks of transmission substantially but not 100 percent. You can also pick things up through areas not covered so fingering etc does still carry a small risk. Finally, maybe get tested for piece of mind and if you did pick up something starting treatment promptly is likely to be more effective. |

Yes, exactly, thank you; that is how I would have replied myself. The staff at the clinic who do know what they are talking about say the same, and there is always the risk as may have happened to me that a man fucking me, particularly from behind, will remove the condom without me knowing, before pulling out. |
