Anyone else suffer with it

Not quite that but I get vertigo if I’ve worked my neck or shoulders too hard in gym or if I’ve done a big bike ride and been in one position for too long.

Basically any position that stresses my neck muscles too much, I can feel it coming on so if I stop soon enough the symptoms are reduced.

It’s due to someone landing on back of my head years ago.

I suffered with this for years. It's a real bind. Have you done the Epley maneuver?

The Epley manoeuvre was a lifesaver when I had BPPV.

I never experienced anything as intense as the first episode. As others have mentioned, you can sense the symptoms building up and then it’s all about being mindful of your posture to prevent them from happening.

Think I’ll see if this Epley manoeuvre helps me when it starts coming on.

Never heard of it before.

Get someone to help you and repeat no more than three times.

If it hasn’t helped by the third, get it investigated.

Another common cause of BPPV can be wearing noise cancelling headphones for long durations.

Just started with vertigo after sleeping with a white noise headband 😭 had no idea beforehand that it could have negative effects. Does noise cancelling headphones vertigo ever go away after it’s been caused?

Yes, though may take a while. Hallpike/Epley is a good way to try to sort it but it’s not fun.

Wish you all the best and you have my sympathy. It’s not nice at all.

Have had it investigated and just have medication now but these last few weeks it seems worse than ever never worn headphones

Thank you. Dr tried to lay me down and tip my head back for it and I was nearly sick so he aborted. I need to learn it at home I think - near a bowl

Somewhere in the middle not the.....

Dix–Hallpike test confirms bppv and which affected canal. There's 3 different manouvres that can be used, Epley, Semont, and Brandt–Daroff to correct, Epley tends to get the best results.

Unfortunately can last up to around 3 months, if it carries on push to go back to ENT/Vestibular clinic and have/have more manoeuvre therapy.

Theres lots more i can add but I'll be going on forever.

Go to your local osteopath and get an Eplay manoeuvre. Works wonders.

Funny story,

When I first started to get the symptoms I thought I was possessed!

That was 20 years ago and it still recurs every so often.

The epley manoeuvre was a life saver for me and it was one of the occupational therapy physios at my, then, job that told me about it while I was undergoing treatment for a hip problem.

I can now do the epley manoeuvre on my own with the help of a hat I bought on Amazon called DizzyFix.

I get it sometimes, it comes and goes and I hate it. I wish I knew what brought it on.

As others have said, the epley manoeuvre helped more than Brandt-Doroff for me. It helped more once I understood about the crystals and I was essentially moving them back into place.

I thought a trapped nerve from sleeping was the culprit but I can't prove it.

Hope it's better soon

Leighton Buzzard

I had it whilst laying underneath a car, I thought somethings not right here and crawled out, sat against the wheel and my house literally turned upside down an couple of times, I had that last for a good 4 months before I was steady on my feet again.

I learned it was caused if I lay down on my left side or straight back, I had to get into bed on my right side then slowly roll over onto my back.

Years later I can still bring it on if I’m not careful but no where near as bad.

Good luck, I truly sympathise with you.

It was quite frightening when I had it, took a couple of days to fully manifest then I had to crawl around on all fours until the Epley manoeuvre sorted it after a couple of repeats.

From what I have read it can be caused by stress and fatigue as well as viral infection.

somewhere sweet and sour

Oh. Welcome to my world lol.

Having had it on and off now for many years.

Firstly, vertigo is the symptom of BPPV. Caused by little tiny "crystals" that have been dislodged somehow, and the Epley Manoeuvre moves them back into place. It has a high success rate.

It is very annoying as episodes can last from 3 days to 3 months in severe cases.

If you get vertigo during and straight after a virus, that is known as Labrythitis. That clears up pretty quickly.

If it hasn't gone away after 2-3 weeks,I'd go back to the Dr and either repeat the Epley. Or ask to be referred to ENT. It's a waiting game on that front.

If for any reason it isn't clearing up and you get other symptoms such as fullness in ear, pulsatile tinnitus, tinnitus, popping sounds, headache, possible feeling of numbness, then it could possibly be Menieres Disease or Vestibular Migraine.

But I am not a Dr so any medical advice should be sought from your Dr.

It is and can so debilitating.

Try to refrain from caffeine, smoking (if you can)I stopped drinking coffee and it helped .. and if you have someone to help do the Epley, do it at home. It's not peasant but the relief if it works is amazing.

BPPV is actually very common and it should clear up eventually and hopefully it doesn't happen again, although a study did say it can happen again. I'm proof of that lol.

I wish you luck

I get something similar if my head is tilted back as I lie down, my head spins like crazy instantly but I recover as soon I get on my dude and position my head level so I don’t know what causes it and if it’s that Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo that you mentioned

It sounds like it could be. Do a search for 'Dix Hallpike'.

That test (get a friend to help) will tell you if is BPPV and which ear is affected

Push for a vestibular clinic referral, its what they do day in and day out and can assess you properly to make sure its definitely bppv and not actual vertigo.
