I got a hernia...im on the waiting list...it's painful but I got my self a support padded belt for hernias and the pain is no longer. You can have sex as long as you don't put strain on the hernia.
Hope this helps and good luck for your operation |

"I've had a hernia since I was 17 or 18. Went to get booked in, didn't like the doctor. Just lived with it since it doesn't cause pain or anything like that"
You should definitely get this sorted. It’s your intestine that is poking out your muscle wall and you will eventually get a strangulated bowel, require an operation to have that section removed and likely a stoma bag. |

I can only speak from experience as a male, it took me a good couple of days to get mobile after my op. Slept on the sofa for a few days as I couldn’t really walk up the stairs but a mate had an op and he was in the pub the same day…
I get horny on co codamol… don’t know if that’s a thing, but it did take the wound to heal before I could get jiggy with it, but I’ve never had an issue since. |

I had my first hernia op at 8yr old and my second around 30yrs old..
I can't take pain meds due to allergies so I basically spent 6 weeks laid down unless I absolutly had to be stood up then I barrel rolled in and out of bed
No heavy lifts, no out of balance lifting, no straining, reaching, bracing.. Just calm, slow considered movement haha |

Just had an umbilical hernia repair done 3 weeks ago. Mine was quite pronounced and visible through my shirts. Had been on waiting list for a few years so when a space became available I jumped at it. First few days after spent in armchair but feel great now. Glad I had it done.

I had an umbilical hernia repair about 20 years ago.
The immediate 48 hours after the operation it was pretty sore but after that it was ok. Plenty of rest, no lifting or stretching for four weeks but otherwise it was manageable. |

So, for almost 15 years you have suffered with a hernia because you didn't like the doctor.
Ever thought of seeing a different doctor? |

Not really suffered. It's only a small one that you can barely feel and causes no pain or discomfort. Not worth getting done. Never caused any issues but was worried when I first felt it |

The advice I and most others receive from the medical professionals is not to have it fixed until it causes you problems. You can't say he'll eventually get a strangulated bowel. Strangulation isn't an inevitable outcome of just leaving it, and it happens in a small minority. |

"If it is anywhere near your nether regions take the utmost care to let it heal correctly, complications can be life changing."
Had emergency surgery in April 22 still in pain. Key hole surgery but it was in the groin area. Been told the mesh has trapped nerves so now waiting to see pain specialist but on Plaexia which has took a little pain away. |

I've had 5 hernia. Each one then recommended time out is 6 weeks and I think I needed that. Granted I was much younger but eas a struggle not to do any exercise or watch sports or porn for that matter. |

I had an inguinal hernia a few years ago, just as covid was getting less. Waiting times were an eternity so I went private. I’d also been getting occasional horrendous stomach pains from time to time.
So I had the op at the private hospital and the surgeon told me afterwards that I’d got a twisted bowel which they sorted too.
It was summer and being a farmer I was soooo busy, so I was back working the next day but I avoided any lifting. Pain was minimal and I’ve never had any stomach pain since.
Obviously this is different to your issue but I’m sure you’ll be fine, we have some great medical staff in this country. |

My husband had one recently and worst part for him was his shoulders, funny enough.
The gas used to inflate the abdomen during surgery irritates the diaphragm, causing referred pain that radiates to the shoulder.
He was out of bed and walking within a few hours. Peppermint tea and pain killers helped.
No heavy lifting and you probably won't want sex until you feel you have healed.
Oh and have comfy loose pj's. Hope you have a quick recovery. |

I struggled to even get in or out of bed for the best part of a week. Slow, deliberate steps following days of being up and about due knowing if fell would be in a world of pain |

Ive had one since 2014 its become very large and at risk of becomingan emergency, currently in the process of losing weight so I can have on op, which will take 6 hours but petrified off not making it off the table.
Highly recommend to anyone showing any signs of a hernia get it done ASAP if you need to lose weight do it ASAP. |

Although this is possible, it isn’t a definite.
I had a strangulated hernia, the GP just pushed it back through and then I had an op to fix it.
I’ve got another one now, and they’ve said to leave it alone.
Take it easy for a bit OP, you might delay your recovery if you’re too enthusiastic with getting back on with things. |

I have had 2 hernia ops.
Last one last year in and out aame day minimal pain no heavy lifting for 8 weeks no driving 3 weeks. Honestly pan was minimal ( this varies on where it is and individual) but I found recovery ok…careful with push/pull things like hoovering and avoid if you can first couple of weeks.
Was back in the gym weeks 8/9 being sensible!
Good luck.xx

"So this recovery is miserable! Completely underestimated how painful this would be 🫠
Thank you for all the well wishes ❤️"
Came here to wish you luck. Yes minor op, but I also miss read the recovery and pain. You won't even be thinking of sex, you will be out of action for a few weeks, and after a few weeks you will be aware.
You have been cut open and your body needs time to recover |

double hernia operation about 4 years ago.
mesh in both sides and had to take 4 weeks off work and no lifting for 2 months then slowly back in the gym etc.
could feel my body trying to reject the mesh but after a year from the operation it all settled down and i only have scare marks now. |

10 years ago, I had an inguinal hernia on my left side. Went private (work health scheme) local anaesthetic, keyhole surgery with mesh fitted, home in about 3 hours, done ‘n’ dusted. But the pain once the anaesthetic had worn off………. Felt like I’d been kicked hard in the nether region! Back playing rugby 7 weeks later though!🤣
Then 2 years ago, had another, this time on the right side. Good old NHS…… General anaesthetic, so in hospital for about 8 - 9 hours, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as the previous one. Walking 2 mikes a day a week later, no problem.
Both times though…….. no sex, no heavy lifting, no strenuous activity for about 6 weeks.
LISTEN to the surgeon & doctors, not worth messing it up by being reckless. |
