Why do so many people just view this as osteoarthritis-(wear n tear)

It's a totally different disease.

It's an autoimmune disease, meaning your own immune system is attacking your body.

It's more than an achy knee.

It's polyarticular, meaning affecting many joints.

I currently have it in both knees, both hips, both shoulders, both wrists and both hands, (loss of grip strength is a much bigger problem than you imagine - think not being able to open jars/bottles/sachets/packets - nevermind my motorcycle throttle, clutch, brakes etc) as well as my neck and jaw.

It can also affect organs, such as heart, lungs, eyes, liver etc.

(Luckily I'm ok in that respect so far).

Not sure why I'm posting this to be honest - maybe I'm fed up with people saying take some painkillers and shut up.

There's NO cure for RA, all you can do is slow it's progress

My wife has it. She has four infusions per year which suppress her immune system to stop it attacking her body. It's a horrible, unforgiving disease.

I am fortunate enough to have both rheumatoid and osteo in different joints of my body….And the pains are totally different to each other.

The pains literally are like chalk and cheese. My osteo flares up and pain worsens when doing physical activity like walking etc… and somewhat eases on rest, but the rheumatoid is the polar opposite , better when moving but worse when resting…. So I can’t bloody win.

I have osteo in my spine and neck, knees and right hip.

The rheumatism is in my hands and wrists and shoulders.
