I know it's not a virus but I thought i would post here as it's about health.
Long story short I'm an electrician who's had back problems for years and just got on with it,
but last week got diagnosed with scoliosis, And my spine is leaning slightly to the right.
I don't know anyone who has scoliosis, so just wondering if anyone else has it and what works for you manage to the pain?
And were you able to straighten it at all?
?
The DR just prescribed painkillers and booted me out the door lol 🤣
so I'm looking for actual advice on what to do next.

Yeah that's what doctors do with back pain I'm afraid
I have no experience of scoliosis but both of us have a lot of experience with back pain and the raft of addictive medication they'll cheerfully hand out.
Have you seen a MSK specialist ? |

Thanks for the reply!
That's shit how they handle it, but good to know it wasn't just me lol.
But yeah exactly I really don't want to rely on too much medication if I don't have to.
Only seen GP last week but she say she was referring me to a specialist, dunno when that will be, Is that the MSK? |

Possibly, it's musculoskeletal médecine. If I was you I'd wait until you've seen the specialist. Really prepare for your appointment have a list of things you can't do, how your pain is affecting you and what you'd like the outcome to be. Don't be tempted by osteopaths or chiropractors until they've confirmed that it's ok and ask if physio will help.
Good luck |

Get a proper diagnosis. I do Pilates two times a week and do some of the exercises at home. I do still get back pain, especially if I sit for too long at my PC. But it is less frequent than it used to be. |

Painkiller are actually great for many types of back pain , especially anti inflammatory, but regular ones too as they allow you have a correct posture and move more normally which can help heal it.
Other things are good too like nerve root blockers, ice pack, flexibility and core work , walking, standing desks, even physio and chiro and surgery . but you gotta do all your own research and experiment to find what works best.
Spines are too complex & important to rely on a GP or even single solution specialist |

I have scoliosis, had it all my life and I'm used to the pain. It helps having high pain threshold. Scoliosis is a relatively common diagnosis, definitely do arrange a physio appointment (you might be able to do self-referral).
Low impact exercise is good for scoliosis, like swimming. Yoga and pilates are good, too, to some extent, as long as you don't go mad. And stretching. |

Damn that's sucks, I don't think I've had it that long just only went Dr about it when the pain really started, it's easing off now, but yeah gotta get used to it I suppose 🤣
Yeah it does seem to be more common that I thought, untill looking into it that's why I thought I'd ask here, for some real world advice. So thank you! 😁
Ok great I'll definitely do that!
And yeah swimming seems to be the one, I'ts been a while though 👀🤣 |

Pay a private physiotherapist to see what they suggest.
You need to strenghen you back because it could get worse and then you need surgery.
Assuming you are self employed do you have private medical insurance? Definitely go and see them.
Somethings are not great on the NHS. I did a manual job for 11 years and I needed physiotherapy multiple times outside of the NHS. Sometimes I paid and sometimes the company paid but the NHS are useless for musculo-skeletal pain......until you can't walk and then they need to operate.
I know someone who developed scoliosis young and then needed surgery before age 40. |

Don't have scoliosis, as far as I know. But earlier int the year was having serious lower back pain.
Couldn't sit down for more than an hour without being in agony. Thought it might be a disk problem.
Went to a physical therapist. Turns out non-issue with the back, all the trouble was being caused by serious shoulder tension. All resolved in one session.
Leg bones connected to the head bone, and all that.
