You have given the world so much.

Not just Covid-19 through your pig-shit (literally) third world foid standards.

Also SARS, swine flu, avian flu etc.

Cheap (and very poor quality) steel to flood world markets and destroy production elsewhere. Dozens of new coal burning power stations to donate extra CO2. New Islands all over the South China Sea...to extend their waters and military might.

Mass extinction of Rhinos, tigers etc for your outdated medical ideas (powdered Rhino horn is not an alternative to Viagra)

So once again China...thank you!!

Whilst we can't deny that they are pollutants ,but don't see you pointing the same finger at the USA, India and indeed the UK.

According to Wikipedia . . .

Analysis of the genetic divergence of the virus in samples from different cases indicated that the virus jumped to humans in 2008, probably after June, and not later than the end of November,[19] likely around September 2008.[20][21] The research also indicated the virus had been latent in pigs for several months prior to the outbreak, suggesting a need to increase agricultural surveillance to prevent future outbreaks.[22] In 2009, U.S. agricultural officials speculated, although emphasizing that there was no way to prove their hypothesis, that "contrary to the popular assumption that the new swine flu pandemic arose on factory farms in Mexico," the virus "most likely emerged in pigs in Asia, but then traveled to North America in a human."[23]

However, a subsequent report by researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2016 found that the 2009 H1N1 virus likely originated from pigs in a very small region of central Mexico.[24]

Conveniently forgetting that the great British Empire started two wars with China when they tried to stop us shipping thousands of tonnes of illegal opium to them. So what if we turn thousands into drug addicts, we want the money right?

Who knows how different Chinese politics and culture would be today if it wasn't for that little sordid bit of history? Certainly Hong Kong would not have become a British colony - that was only returned to Chinese rule in 1997.

Almost no culture on earth stands alone as untouched by history. China today is what it is because of a whole string of events, just as our culture is influenced by our history. Britain figured massively in Chinese life in the not too distant past.

You also mention the Chinese trade in rare animal parts - again let's not forget the role that the British have played in the mass extinction story - it absolutely isn't all China's fault even if they are major players now.

You raise the issue of cheap steel and coal fired power stations. Where do you think the money comes from to build these stations, steel works etc? Some indeed is internal growth but a lot of the 'Chinese' pollution is caused by our insatiable desire for cheap goods. The poor quality stuff from China often gets touted as proof of their lack of standards which totally ignores the billions of pounds worth of high quality goods we all buy and use each year.

I doubt very much this post will change your mind but just perhaps it'll cause you to look a little way past your xenophobia and see that as with most things human, the picture is a little more complex than 'they started it' spouted like a petulant child.

Yes but the UK and many others countries are now trying their best to cut carbon emissions and make up for those mistakes if the past.

In the UK more power came from renewable sources than from fossil fuels for a full 12 months during 2019.

Many countries have done things in the past due to lack of knowledge and were unaware of the impact it will have in the future and they are now; if a bit late, trying to change for the better but china don't seem to want to.

What has always concerned me about the whole trade situation with China is that it is a communist country and has very questionable human rights standards but this can be said about many countries we trade with in the middle East for example, time to think about where our products come from and the economics of it all.

An apology? It's a flu, and they come from various different places and animals. Do you apologise to everyone you've ever infected.

I think this whole thread is a completely joke, and not in the funny way. Enough with the blame. Eveeyone listen to guidelines and help to prevent it spreading. End of..."

There are a lot of unnecessary and very unhelpful toxic comments on here.

I’m pleased to see that there are also some very good decent people with a lot more common sense and compassion contributing on here.

Stay safe you peeps. x

There is nothing inherently racist, hateful or xenophobic about stating that the virus originated in China.

The Chinese regime (you know the one, the one holding over a million Muslims in concentration camps) accusations of xenophobia reflect the political inconvenience of them having to point out the virus’s geographical source.

It is a well documented fact that the Chinese government deliberately delayed ringing the alarm bell on the coronavirus. Chinese authorities spent January denying the virus could spread between humans (something doctors had known was happening since December) and allowed a Lunar New Year banquet involving tens of thousands of families to take place in Wuhan as planned. The Chinese government later let innumerable people leave the city without screening.

Thank you the C.C.P.

So once again China...thank you!!"

"I don't think they invented coronavirus, I think you can thank mother nature for that one.

Don't forget the good stuff like writing and art, language, mathematics.

And amazing feats of engineering such as the great wall.

OP I am guessing that you have never eaten a Chinese takeaway?

Used an electronic product made in China or clothing.

I suggest that if you hate them that much you throw everything away that is made in China.

Whilst we can't deny that they are pollutants ,but don't see you pointing the same finger at the USA, India and indeed the UK.

We are not a guilt free nation.

Hate breed's hate.

Don't forget they have lost thousands and many more are sick.

Please don't believe everything you read on Facebook."

Well Said xx

I think though that there is a significant difference between calling out the Chinese regime for their human rights abuses and handling of this crises and blaming this disease on 'the Chinese'

Two things have surprised me from this discussion. Firstly the OP is clearly a Pratchet fan yet seems to have the sort of small minded tribal ignorance that Pratchett routinely fought against in his writing and ....

....

....

I'm arguing the same side as Essex Tom

"Conveniently forgetting that the great British Empire started two wars with China when they tried to stop us shipping thousands of tonnes of illegal opium to them.

Wow

This isn't a racist thread is it?

Lumping the whole country and its citizens, who just happened to be born there and asking them to be culled.

Threads like this shouldn't be allowed.
