Hi everyone,
I’m planning a road trip from Swansea to North Wales in July and would love some recommendations.
The rough plan is to travel up through Mid Wales, stopping off for walks, sightseeing and exploring along the way, then return via the coast toward Cardigan
I’m looking for suggestions on:
Scenic places that are worth visiting
Good walking routes and viewpoints
Hidden gems that are easy to miss
Nice hotels, inns or places to stay along the route
If you’ve done a similar trip or have any favourite spots in Mid or North Wales, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.
Thanks in advance! |

Any chance of knowing how many days your trip may take..?
Always good to see that south walians want to see proper real Wales that us gogs are fortunate to have on our doorstep..
Assuming you'll be travelling up to the north through mid Wales via A483 main trunk road between Swansea and Wrexham..
At Chirk turn for A5 (Holyhead road)
1st bee line will be llangolen..
Great inland tourist resort upon the river Dee.
Must do.
Walk up Dinas Bran that will offer magnificent views of the opening of the Dee valley..also check out the pontcysctlle canal aqueduct..
Follow A5 to Corwen, one can turn for Bala but should continue towards Snowdonia .
Absolutely stunning.. a circular drive can be done either side of snowdon..
Must see Beddgelert..
If one is on Llyn peninsula check out Ty Coch near Nefyn great beach pub..
Follow coast from Porthmadog via Harlech to Barmouth to Dolgellau.
The road from Barmouth to Dolgellau has been described as one of the most scenic routes in Wales only surpassed by the road from Dolgellau to Barmouth...
From Dolgellau head for Machynlleth..at Mach, can't recall road number but take road that cuts across golf course(listen out for shouts of FORE ) road will lead you to what the great reknowned welsh broadcaster Wilfred Vaughan Thomas described as the finest view in Wales looking north with a bench commemorating him..believe it will eventually lead to a very iconic welsh pub called the tafern zinc..
From there you should be able to pick roads to the coast and on to cardigan..
Enjoy |
